Why can't Adelaide retain players?

I have no issue with either of those guys leaving, both went home for better deals than what they were on. Both had valid reasons to return to their home state, also, Jacobs was never going to be short opportunity at Carlton, he'd worked his way up the pecking order to be their first option to pair with Kruezer.

There's only 1 characteristic we all share as football fans, we're all hypocrites.
Just another example of that at play here.

It's easy to say Jacobs would have opportunities at Carlton but nobody has a crystal ball and could have predicted Kruezer would spend all that time injured.

Yeah I agree that footy fans can be hypocritical but I was just pointing out that every situation is different and should be judged on it's own merits.

The lack of hate for Scott Thompson and Sam Jacobs is a little weird.

Why hasn't Tex destroyed them for being disloyal?

Once again, I feel like a broken record here, there are some people that are screaming disloyalty, but the majority of Crows fans are just annoyed about being consistently lied to by Lever.

And who knows what was really said between Tex and Lever, and who knows why either is angry at the other, we don’t know what was said behind close doors. Perhaps Tex, like most Crows fans just wasn’t having a bar of the “family reasons” or maybe Tex is being a monumental dickhead, but I doubt anyone on BigFooty knows.

Well mainly because Jacobs was unwanted by Carlton...its not like he was their number 1 ruck and left them in the lurch for money.
Thompson wanted to come home, but didnt try to blackmail melbourne into overpaying him.

If you cant see the difference then you probably shouldn't comment.

Also how would you expect the captain to react to something like this?
The team that took a chance on an injured Lever when nobody else wanted to touch him in the first round, that developed him into an AA squad member at 21 probably deserves to be treated better than what he has.

Jacobs was most certainly wanted by Carlton. Again, we make excuses for the players who want to join our clubs, and pillories the ones who leave.
Nobody is getting blackmailed in the Lever case either, he has a lucrative offer, he wants to take it.
If you can't see the similarities, I don't think you should be commenting.

I think Lever deserves most of the credit for what he's turned himself into. He was always getting onto an AFL list, he probably slides to Carlton at 19 at the worst. I'd expect the captain to understand the position that Jake Lever is in, and do everything in his power to make sure Jake and the club stayed focused on season 2017 and the main goal they'd set themselves.

After that, the decision becomes Lever's. Seems like he handled this situation like a man, while a few at the Crows have handled it like entitled Children.

Lol. It's not like Lever wasn't going to get drafted. Also, all through his juniors (A bottom age Vic Metro Captain no less) and from the first game everybody could see Lever was a very good player, not sure the Crows had much to do with his obvious natural ability.

The lieing is a massive pain in the arse for all fans. He should have been able to make his intentions clear when he knew (which sounds like early in the year). I reckon after Locky Henderson told of his intention to leave before years end was received so poorly by everyone, including the AFL commissioner, it forces the players to be dishonest.

Everyone needs to be a little more grown up about these situations.

That said, I think we'll see players being traded without their consent pretty soon, especially after this Jake Lever saga.

I sense there’s more to it though then them just being mad at him for leaving, why has Cameron not copped the same heat if that is the case?

You might be right.

Maybe they just believe that Lever is all about the money, while Cameron legitimately wants to go home.

I still think the other Adelaide players could have handled it alot better.

Why wouldn’t it be a great club to be around? What makes you say our players were cocky before the grand final? As for the fans, I certainly wasn’t cocky. You can check my posts before the match, I was pretty certain richmonds leaders would have more impact than ours and that’s how it played out. It was mainly neutrals and crows haters making it seem like we were sure things so it would seem like more of a failure if we were to lose.

Like I said to some neutral before the match that said it was Adelaide’s GF to lose- we both beat the same teams to get to the he GF and both earnt our right to play off in the GF, and It was richmonds to win just as much as it was ours.
Maybe not you but all i read on facebook and stuff on here is crow fans going on about how the crows will do it easily. Tex had a seat empty next to.him on the flight home for the cup as well

There were a lot of people who also backed Henderson’s decision, myself included. For a club in the Blues’ position I think it was the best thing to do so that they didn’t waste time developing him when he’d only be around for a year. I also don’t think anyone would expect him to admit he’s leaving, but all year he said he was intending to stay, the line from the club was “Jake wants to stay”, so he’s obviously told them he wants to stay. He then lied and said he hadn’t met with Melbourne, and now is trying to hide behind family reasons rather then admitting that he’s leaving because of money.

The Crows wouldn’t be the first, and won’t be the last losing grand final team to have premiership celebrations go unused.

Didn't he tell the club before finals? Isn't that why players wanted him dropped for finals?

Also it's reported players have been giving him shit about leaving for months

I was referring to before then, when he was telling everyone he was “just waiting for the CBA” which we now know is code for “waiting for a better offer”.

It’s interesting that people are criticising Tex for spitting the dummy about being lied to, but no one is pointing out that Lever basically spat the dummy when the Crows offered him less than what they thought he was worth.

Huh? How is that funny?

Where has lever spat the dummy?

How does Gary Lyon know about the contents of a phone call between Lever and Walker?
It's going around a fair few places

How does any sports media person know anything they claim?

Legit think Adelaide has done nothing wrong just been unlucky. Aussies are seriously sooky bums when it comes to living away from home, your still in Oz most cities are (relatively) similar to each other. Soccer players go live in countries not knowing a word of the language and manage to stay (yes they earn more but AFL players aren't exactly living in the streets).

Yeah it's a bit of an Australian phenomenon. Sure, in other international sports you do get the occasional players taking pay cuts to be closer to home. Some get 'No Movement Clauses' in their contracts to allow them to pick the teams they would be happy to be traded to. Family is a big deal, particularly when they are married and have kids and want to both play sport and settle down.

But for the most part, they suck it up. They get traded willy nilly for business reasons against their will and they just suck it up.

The reports are, pretty much the same reports about Tex's anger, that Lever was extremely upset and angry with the offer.

And I don't recall saying it was funny

Most of the Apricot Slice brigade, a substantial part of your supporter base, the Ednas, the Beryls, the Barrys, the Trevors still firmly believe in it. The first line of your song proudly proclaims you are the pride of South Australia FFS. As you pointed out, you wear the State colours. No other club or franchise in the league relies/uses or leans on "state pride" quite like the Crows. It must be very off putting for a young Victorian recruit to know they are outsiders from the very outset.

This thread throwing up some nice lines

"I'll stay if you match the offer I've received from a club in my home state, since what you've offered is much less than that currently"

Probably best to try and be accurate instead of doing your best tex impersonation.

"How dare he leave for 200k a year. He told us when he was 18 he would stay!"

It is accurate. The Crows have publicly stated that what Lever wanted to be paid to re-sign would have made him, a 3rd year player who isn't even our best defender, the highest paid player at the club.
