did anyone see dawes host the black and white show this week?... he, if he becomes a good player(which he will), seems to have the right personality to be a captain..

dont get me wrong a silly hosting gig on B&W tv doesnt mean he is worthy of captain consideration.. but i get the felling feeling he is a very intelligent and confident young man... great attributes for a future leader.. cant wait top see this kid in a couple more seasons....

very impressed with young dawesy...

Apparently Chris Dawes was on SEN this morning. I caught the tail end of opposition supporters singing his praises about how eloquently he spoke.

Did anyone catch it?

Caught most of this, thought he was good but certainly nothing special. KB isn't exactly Denton when it comes to interviews so it was all fairly standard stuff.

If you want to see Dawes in fine form catch his CTV take this week (DTM has it posted in the CTV thread).

As far as Travis' speech goes, I do remember his first year a club he had quite the face full of metal going on, to the extent that he didn't have a mouth guard (not certain about this?), always wondered what would happen if he got mixed up in some heavy contact. Anyway its hardly noticeable and certainly doesn't stand in the way of him doing a fine job both today at the presser and tonight on the footy show.

Looks like we have a few mini Ed media moguls blossoming down at the Lexus Center.

Yeah apparently they had to break his jaw, saw some of it off then stick it back together again and wire it... sounds pretty heavy... something nasty like a facial reconstruction... but it wasn't a footy injury either I don't think...
**** man.... poor kid.
I'm fairly certain it wasn't an injury, just something he was born with that couldn't be fixed until he reached near full maturity.

Dawes is a natch in the media, very impressive.

Others I'm impressed with:

Fraser
Medhurst
Lockyer
Wakelin
Clarke

Anyone remember Josh on Talkin' Footy when he was just a kid? I thought in "here's our next skipper." Doh!

Now someone plz tell me two days out from a final, why does Trav decide to go on the Footy Show, when he hasn't made an apperance at all this year on the show. The guy gotta play a game in two days and travel to adelaide and his appearing on the footy show....

even though i might seem harsh i just don't think it should be going on this time of the year.... both brown and fevola aren't playing finals so they can go there but why cloke....

thoughts!!!
yeah, that one hours travel will get you every time

It is strange timing. I did not see the show last night but have heard that Fev and Browny were on so you would assume they could have got the other panelist from one of the other sides out of contention. Nathan Brown, Andrew Welsh etc.

That said, I don't have a problem with Trav doing it.

I think we have seen a bit of a shift in the last couple of weeks with Swan, Cloke, Pendlebury doing more media. I think it coincides with the form and leadership they have been showing on the field since the Shaw/Didak incident.

I would not be surprised if these guys (along with Burns) are driving a change in culture and leadership down at Lexus.

Good to see some of our young players getting involved in the media. Dawes is very, very funny! Good sense of humour, level headed yada yada yada! Think we need to see blokes like Medders do more media work. Others who have impressed me in the media have been Harry O, Marty Clarke, Pendles and Nat Brown. Would like to see Dids and H Shaw do more media next year. Dids is a ripping bloke and would be good to show the rest of the football world what kind of person he really is.

I've got no problem with Cloke going on at all, though I don't share your favourable assessment of his media skills.

My favourite two guys, based on what I've seen, are Chris Dawes and Medhurst. Dawes is clearly a "Simpsons generation" kid (like many of us here) and Medhurst is a surprisingly smart guy who is also hilarious. Have a look at his B&W episode, for example.

In terms of professionalism, Fraser, Burns, Wakelin and even Presti are all pretty polished at this stage.

I think we might see him on The Footy Show next year, especially if he gets All Australian selection or the Copeland.

Someone who performs well with the media is Jack Anthony. Seems to be quite intelligent and can put his thoughts into words quite well. Some people seem to think he is a tad arrogant.... I'd rather call it confidence.... and there's nothing wrong with having a little confidence ;)

Absolutely, anyone who was at the Lexus Centre after the Saints game would agree. He is a great speaker and his passion for the club came out during that speech.

Yeah Anthony is a good speaker, and media performer. Was listening to an interview (podcast) with him and Leon Davis, and they give a bum tap (Encouragement) to any player. He gave it to Buddy Franklin for kicking his 100th goal - said it was fantastic, then went on to say people know that me and him arent the biggest fans of one another! Would love to see that matchup!

Bugger the footy show... every week it's becoming more of a circus around what Sam will/won't do. The panellists barely get a look-in other than to 'feed' Sam some lines so he can have a go at them.

Travis can be funny and eloquent when not having to provide the standard club responses - he was great on the Sunday Footy Show.

I'd rather see more of the boys on Before the Game where they actually get to have some fun they can join in on. And it has some decent jokes. Loved it when Heater was on in the '70s show with his Dad's 'tache. Burnsy was good on it as well.

Trav is fantastic in the media. Comes across as extremely likeable and quite intelligent.

Will be great for us when he is Captain!

Who are other polished media performers amongst our player group?

Players I have been impressed with media wise:

Cloke
Fraser
Thomas
Wakelin
Swan
Rhyce Shaw

They all come across as pretty relaxed and not conceited at all. Can have a laugh and have something to say.

I don't know if this has been listed cos I haven't read that far but DAWESOME was on KB's show on SEN yesterdey morn. Came across as articulate, modest and intelligent. So much so, quite a few messages were conveyed to the bald badger to reflect his efforts.

Maybe FEV could take a page from DAWESOME's book on how to conduct himself in media circles.

Good God if going TFS before a final makes a difference than Travis is a dud because he doesn’t have the metal capacity to be anything else. Travis is not dud.

It is probably counter productive if anything to wrap players up in cotton wool.

He does swear a bit when the adrenline is running though, after match interviews with jack would be on thefunny side

Ha some peoples bias is ridiculous. Just because Cloke is a Collingwood player does not mean we have to sing his praises. I don't think he's all that good in front of the camera, he seems very nervous and searches for his words as he is speaking. Agree on Medhurst and Dawes, they are both very sharp.

Terrific inetrview with Chris Dawes on SEN this week. Very confident and articulate for a young bloke. Even sliped in `....the strategic side of football...' Honorable mention to Paul Medhurst

Lol, true that! Overlooking the swearing, still a great speaker.
I shouldnt really comment on someone swearing i go off like a crazed man somedays as well.

But i agree jack is very well spoken young man, no struggle talking in front of people at all for him

JA was fantastic after the Saints game. It was great to see such passion & desire from the players. He pretty funny too, had me laughing along.

I thought Travis was very impressive on the Sunday Footy Show too. Spoke well, gave intelligent insights & didn't just give single line answers or trot out the cliches. He's definitely captaincy material down the track.
