Why do the French keep churning out quality footballers at a frightening rate? Is it because of their national academies? Or is it Ligue 1 which is set up to give young guns a go?

Its because, like Germany recently , France identified what was wrong with the development of youf in the late 70's. France struggled in the 1960's and didn't qualify for the 62' World Cup and 64' European championship then again missing the 70' and 74' World cups and 76' European Championship.

A system of elite youth football academies were established ,Clairefontaine being the most well known but there are twelve others around France who identify the best 12-13 year olds and invite them to train. The best ones join the academy but even the ones that don't are often snapped up by other teams after the trials.

You have a country with the money, the talent, a huge population that loves football and the systems in place to identify that talent and you get to keep creating these players.

To think the state of French football even just 30-40 years ago. They had taken a while to get chugging along, but they are flying these days.
