Think Geelong and Melbourne will be the main contenders for the Tigers

Again close to a full team and no burnout will be important, that said I feel Geelong will not burn out and Melbourne "may"

But what we forget is that Melbourne had 3-4 important players that were injured either last year and/or the year before (ie/ had a bad run with long term injuries) and these players are back to add experience and also a couple of other players have stepped up...They are the real deal come September

All in all an exciting finals series will take place...

The tigers won’t win the 2021 flag if they can’t get on a roll and start stringing wins together to ensure they’re well entrenched in the 8.

Finals are so different to H&A games. Some Teams that look great during H&A, all of a sudden look completely different in finals due to extreme game day pressure and the weight of expectation.

This years premier will come from an experienced finals side who gets their best team on the park with a solid form line.

All any team can do is put themselves in a position to contend come finals time.
If the finals started next week then Richmond would not win the flag... they don’t.
No one really knows which teams will be the healthiest and most in form until finals time.
Top four would be great but at least 5th or 6th with a healthy list would give us a chance... same goes for a number of teams.

Because Geelong and Brisbane are seasoned finals campaigners who are better than previous years.
Port are seasoned finals campaigners and will improve second half of season.
Melbourne are looking unbeatable
Bulldogs not far behind Melbourne.

Is a better question later in the season though. Given the way things have panned out in previous seasons.

I actually messaged Dinny the writer of that piece on the Afl website and told him he was being premature. We went back and forth all season until after we won the flag where I told him “I told you so Dinny” he was very good natured about it and actually admitted finally he was wrong. Doubt you’ll see him doing the same thing again this season, not yet anyway.
Nice of him to admit he was wrong once it became an objective fact!

IMO they should be favourites still, nobody has proven they can beat them when it matters other than Mason Cox playing the only good footy of his life.

They’re as good a chance as any side of winning it.

Because of the way this joke of a league is arranged they could even do it from outside the top 4 with four home finals in a row, even from 7th or 8th plausibly.

I think if we can finish 5th or 6th we are still in the hunt, especially as its likely 3 other Vic teams should be top 4, meaning at best only 1 away final and only a 50% chance of that happening.

pfft, the mason cox thing is overblown. game was over well before he got a touch. he juts became the symbol for it because he player 10 minutes of good footy despite being a complete dud. it was our midfield who got obliterated.

So true, unbelievable that in 2018 when we finished 2 games and percentage clear of 2nd(unlike the crows 2 pts clear of 3rd in 2017) we then had to play our only 2 finals at our opponents home ground!!
Oh the humanity!!!

You prefer to skew the finals further in favour of the top 4 rather than necessarily the best performed team across the whole finals campaign wins the Premiership?

I think the way it is set up now is perfect to allow all teams to be at their best for the finals and therefore barring things you can’t legislate for, the best team will win the flag.

Bulldogs 2016 were I think the only team in VFL/AFL history to win four finals. Three of those they won on their opponent’s preferred venue and two of those interstate. I don’t see how any fair minded person could argue they didn’t deserve to be Premiers when imo they played the greatest finals series I have witnessed - and I have seen almost 50.

I would argue if a team can win any four finals on the bounce in one series they deserve to be Premier and the finals should be set up to allow that to occur if a team is good enough.
