Will Ash Smith play 50 games?

One thing i will say that he does have going for him is his size. He's put on plenty of muscle these last few years.

Only he probably done it to match his hair and tatts, not for any particular football related reason

more show than go is Smith. I'm not a fan personally

Exactly right ^ He gets it and kicks it like a mule and you sit there thinking "he's going to spear that sucker to somebody lace out...." only it generally goes nowhere near an eagles player

Harsh criticism of the kid. He's still young, has all the attributes and the footy smarts should come with experience.
Rather put games into developing Smith than giving games to ASelwood/Embley who are no better and on the downward slope anyway.

This is an ideal time to get games into guys like Smith and Sheppard, now that our season is basically shot. Getting them up closer to the 50 game mark will be important going into 2014.

used to be a fan, and was hoping he would be that bloke who would provide dash off half back and use his thundering dropkick to our benefit. Sadly he doesnt look like he will make it.

Just makes really poor decisions when he gets the ball. Is too loose to have a lock down role on a small forward, and often kicks poorly when he has time and space.

didn`t mind Smith game v sydney he appeared to be having a go for a change ,he was getting down and dirty on the loose balls ,tackling and running .I don`t mind so much if he makes a few mistakes as long as the effort and desperation are there like he is playing for his future instead of the usual laconic efforts Smith puts in ..So yeah if he builds on this game the signs are there that he could be a valueable player..

I had hoped that he would return to his form of a few years ago where he would be a pretty consistent lockdown option and his disposal was reasonably measured. Despite a few glimpses here and there, this has not happened.

Would really like to see Bennell, Wilson, Carter and even Tunbridge get opportunities in the backline over Smith. Bennell in particular, who I feel could become a decent matchup for opposition small forwards as well as a good rebounder.

I think he's a lazy footballer without any intensity at all. Just looks like he just jog along when he's defending. He doesn't show any desperation and just watches the ball.

Actually tried to use his pace a bit more than normal, getting the easy handball from running off the hbf and carrying the ball before kicking long. I see enough signs of improvement to keep him on.
