Will Collingwood win the flag?

Dale Thomas doesn't seem to be a player many thought he'd become a year ago and although he's playing at a very high level, he's not in the same class as Shuey or Darling for example.

Oh what ignorant crap this is. Thomas missed quite a few games, only coming back into the side a couple of weeks ago. He is lacking match fitness, but he will be okay towards the end of the year.

Too much reliance on Cloke and big Dawes is simply an average footballer at the best of times.

Reliance on Cloke? What because we had one game where he happened to kick quite a few of our goals? Collingwood has been lauded over the past couple of seasons for having such a great spread of goal kickers. The Bigfooty short memory syndrome.

Didak is always gong to shit the bed in an important game like a final.

Didak has performed in many, if not nearly all the finals he has played in. What a crock of shite. How old are you? He was even very good in the 2010 GF replay when he had a torn pectoral muscle.

The rucks also showed how dominant they are against Jolly who is definitely on his last legs and barely able to run out matches.

Yep, their rucks had so much influence that they nullified our midfield entirely.

Good to see the Collingwood arrogance is back.

All there players are superstars, and there is an excuse for everything.
Well being a Hawthorn fan you would know all about how to overate players from your own side' on topic the Pies are a chance but so are others.

As much as i hate to say it I think Collingwood will win the flag this year. Would love to see the grand final played at Subiaco if West Coast finish on top of Collingwood and lets see how good the pies are then.

excuses for winning 9 in a row and being told we are shit by Big Footy nuffies? Yeah, Collingwood supporters are the jerks.

They do look good right now, we all I hoped ( I did anyway) that Buckley would be a flop but so far so good for the pies. West Coast have got to make the GF this year or.....................

I'd be far more confident in West Coast beating Collingwood come September.

Dale Thomas doesn't seem to be a player many thought he'd become a year ago and although he's playing at a very high level, he's not in the same class as Shuey or Darling for example. Those blokes are monsters even though they are listed at around the 6ft'2 mark...their overhead marking and strength in the contest is remarkable for their young age.
Too much reliance on Cloke and big Dawes is simply an average footballer at the best of times.

Collingwood can feel confident given there was no Tarrant, Pendlebury or Didak but the truth is that Tarrant gets beaten more times than not given both his age & injuries which have slowed him down significantly.
Didak is always gong to shit the bed in an important game like a final.

West Coast are missing Embley who is quite easily a better player than Tarrant or Didak. Nicoski and Kennedy are two of their most important players and Schofield has already shown how good he is at stopping the power forwards so I doubt Cloke would get close to 5 goals next time with he and Glass rotating together on Cloke.
The rucks also showed how dominant they are against Jolly who is definitely on his last legs and barely able to run out matches.

Ok I will bite.

1. Yes Dale Thomas is down on form, albeit he may be playing a different role. Thats a good thing because it means the Pies have upside. Comparing him to Darling is nonsense, they dont play the same position.
2. We havent relied on Cloke all year. He has been consistent but has only kicked more than three goals twice this year Like Thomas he has upside as he is a proven superstar. Dawes is playing the pinch-hitting spart parts ruck role of Leigh Brown. As important as the role is, its not a game breaker.
3. Tarrant is a bonus to a line-up that already has Brown and Reid filling the key defence posts. Hes not crucial. Embley is arguably more important than Didak but thats only because Collingwoods list is stronger than West Coasts. Neither Embley or Didak would not get a game at Collingwood (assuming no injuries).
4. Jolly played his best game of the year and was solid around the ground. Cox is also on his last legs. Natanui simply hasnt learnt how to get enough cheap posssessions, but on pure talent he has obvious x factor. Ben Reid shut him down magnificently. West Caost may pay the price for being top heavy and having two ruckmen in the modern game.

A ridiculous statement! Haha! The guy is easily still the best ruck in the comp!

Gez you boys are touchy! Guess it builds up over time with all the losses, yeah?

You have now lost seven straight to Collingwood.

Have not beaten Collingwood in Melbourne since 2002 (that was at Etihad).

Have not beaten Collingwood on the MCG since 1995 - seventeen years and counting.

Yeah, I reckon your desperation and hand wringing builds up over time with all those losses piling up and compounding your humiliation.

Bloods to take home the chocolates im afraid Pies.

Too funny!

Swans haven't beaten Collingwood any where, any place, any time since 2005.

Swans have not beaten Collingwood in Melbourne since 2002 - I make that ten years.

Swans have not beaten Collingwood at the MCG since 1990's.

When you can solve the above riddle, then I may take your claims seriously. Until then, your Collingwood hatred outweighs your logic. Not the first to suffer this malady and you most certainly won't be the last.

Well its got to happen some time! to be completely honest I dont actually think Swans will win it but I do think Pies will fold like they did last year. Having said that I think Swans will beat the Pies in Sydney in a few weeks. The Eagles played pretty ordinary footy on Sat and still got really close, Pies were close to their best footy. Eagles a better outfit for mine and will win the GF.

Nice delusions sunshine we spent half the match turning it over in the backline, nowhere near close to our best.

Lying is a sin.

I attribute the mistakes to WC pressure but also I dont think Pies are as good as you think, a shocking thought isn't it sunshine?

A Hawthorn flog lecturing Pies fans on arrogance and overrating players! Now I have seen it all!

Hawthorn supporters with their "we are born to rule because we are Hawthorn" attitudes have been the yard stick over the last 30 years for arrogance, delusional conviction that Hawthorn and ONLY Hawthorn should be the premiership favourite each year. That Hawthorn and ONLY Hawthorn can win the flag from anywhere on the ladder and that every modest performer who pulls on the wee and poo jumper is elevated to Leviathan status with unmatched skills, stamina and Hawthorn spirit that will catapult him over the mere mortals who play for opposing clubs.

Between 2001 and about 2005, Brisbane Lions fans drunk with success were utterly insufferable.

Ditto Geelong fans from 2007 to the present.

Essendon supporters throughout the Sheedy years were notoriously difficult. But Carlton supporters and Hawthorn supporters take the cake - why?

Because they are imbedded with some moronic DNA that makes them predisposed to being dickheads?

No, that is not possible.

There is a far more plausable (and dare I say, rational) explanation behind their lack of humility and arrogance.

Basically, your average 40 odd year old Carlton and Hawthorn supporter has seen circa eight flags in their lifetime. That is roughly a flag every four years they have been on this earth. This success has bred a certain arrogant sense of entitlement, the whole "we are born to rule" mentality that pervades all their fans...a certain smugness that grates on the nerves.

With Carlton, they always believe that somehow, someway, they will pull some shifty deal to land some hot "superstar" player that will deliver them a shortcut to premiership glory. That is how it always worked for them in the past.

With Hawthorn, it merely manifested itself in their unshakeable belief that they and they alone are the only ones capable of winning a flag each and every year no matter how improbable the odds are. No matter where Hawthorn are on the ladder on any given year, ask a Hawks fan who will win the premiership that year and without a seconds consideration, without even blinking, they will unhesitatingly answer "Hawthorn".

When you have seen so many flags as Carlton or Hawthorn fans have seen, you can understand to an extent this confidence...but this sense of entitlement that especially Hawthorn fans have is nothing short of bizarre.

Collingwood beat Hawthorn in a close, hard fought preliminary final last season...no big deal, the game could have gone either way. But the way they (Kennett and co) carried on after the game and over the talkback airwaves all off season, you would swear that Collingwood had robbed them of what was rightfully their birthright.

To say that their inability to let go was/is bizarre is not even getting halfway to the crux of the matter. It was afterall, just a game of football...but the Hawthorn supporter's response somehow bluffed the normally intelligent footy scribes to install them as favourites for this years flag!?

It just goes to show that throwing all your toys out of the pram forces otherwise rational people to try and placate you with platitudes.

Hawthorn have no credible ruck, no quality tall defenders to speak of since Croad rode off into the sunset and an ageing and injury prone midfield that peaked in 2008. "Nup, we are still premiership favourites, because we are Hawthorn".

Hawthorn got touched up every time they met anyone who was remotely on song this season, but did that cause the indomitable Hawk supporter to lose faith? No. After beating up the hapless North Melbourne, Port Adelaide and Brisbane Lions, they declared with puffed out chests that this year is surely their year.

Still premiership favourites.

And people reckon Collingwood supporters are delusional...

you must have been only seconds from necking yourself last year judging by your little rant you just had over an opinion between your mob & West Coast.

If it makes things somewhat easier for ya....Collingwood won't be winning the flag this year either so you'd better get ready for an emotional finals series champ ;)

1) Barely any Collingwood supporters have said we will win the flag (arrogance), most of us just give us a good chance if we are playing good footy

2) 4 players are being discussed:
Pendlebury=Superstar
Krak and Didak = good smalls who would be useful. Nobody has made them out as anything more really.
Tarrant = good FB but old. Useful to our structures, but again, this is all we have said about him.
