Probably one of the stupidest threads on big footy that should be closed. Here we are 145 pages in so pretty much every single possible opinion has been had regarding every outcome. So now we're going to have week in and week out people coming back to this thread to seek validation for their correct prediction. Win or loss this thread is going to be bumped back every single week until later in the year where people can boast about getting it right one way or the other.

Not at all but maybe Adelaide have taken the attitude that players are replaceable , and losing only one isn't hard to replace. Where Geelong have taken the old Carlton attitude lets try and get ready made players but I suppose when you lose 6 at once and destined to lose another 4 or 5 this year, I'm thinking we are looking a shitload better long term!

Oh I just realized your Marty36. Bye.

Geelong has missed two final series since 2004, the lowest position they have finished on the ladder since 1990 was 12th. When it comes to recruiting, they know what they are doing. I have faith that the Cats understand their future alot more then bigfooty doe

Port is a bit of a mess at the moment, especially if they are unlucky at the tribunal, another team we are meeting at a good time.

A big factor in assessing Geelong has to be the draw. We're a work in progress but could be 4-1 this time next week. I feel like we'll be much stronger in the back half of the season but we'll need to be.

Looks like the Dangerfield trade is going to be a plus for Adelaide and a negative for Geelong.

Adelaide benefit from the team becoming a true team and every player getting better because they no longer look to one player. Spreading the load works 'champion team' 'team of champions' and all that...

Geelong a negative because now every player looks to Dangerfield and expect him to do the job for them.

A similar thing happened with the Judd trade. Judd played well for the Blues, but the star factor culture around him held a lot of our other players back.

Sometimes trading in a gun does not work.
So you're saying the Danger trade will be a negative for Geelong?

Well I should hope they know better then the female goats and deer of these parts.
I'd imagine there are quite few of them.

Sitting at 3 and 1 - all while trying to find cohesion with

Menzel
Smith
McCarthy
Dangerfield
Stanley
Kolo
Henderson
Cockatoo

As virtually new players who have all played less than 10 games for geelong in the last 4 seasons. If they're sitting at 4-1 at the round 5 mark, knowing that with each week chemistry grows and they gel more - watch out for how they'll be travelling by round 20. Anyone who honks differently has a tin foil hat on.

That's one way to look at it I guess. To me though it just looked like Geelong played like shit.

That's true. We played like shit and won by five goals. If we had kicked a few regulation goals that we missed, that margin would have been 50+. Funny that kicking 18.8 to comfortably beat Hawthorn apparently proves that we're shit (because of our supposed freakish accuracy) and kicking 9.18 to comfortably beat Essendon also proves we're shit.

I can't believe people thought that Geelong would miss the 8 this year.

Did these people not see their fixture, the quality of their new recruits and the quality players they had to come back into the team after being injured last year?

I'm not really sure. Sometimes they look really really good, and other times not so much. I don't have much faith in meatheads like Stanley. They have quality mids and solid key backs. Enright and Taylor are classy veterans to have back there. I also rate that midfielder with the big ass blonde dreadlock mop. I think he looks funny bopping around looking like a blonde version of Nic Nat, but I must admit he's got extremely strong control in the contests... Very tough to bring him to the ground. Not blazing speed, but servicable speed and a good clearing kick.

Yeah, I'm not too sure about his top speed but what he does have is lightning acceleration from a standing start.

Hard to read a lot from last night's game, it was an extremely soft kill.

They looked slow and were completely rattled for a quarter. Early in the second Port had it it inside 50 for very little reward. Very strong defence from the Cats during that period. Lonergan and Taylor are killing it.

From there Geelong looked lethal, but shit, Port put in one of the worst performances I've seen in long, long time. Insipid.

They've only played two decent teams and they are 1-1. At the end of the day though they are 4-1 and that goes a long way towards finals.

I'm not convinced they are a flag threat yet, but I'm not saying that with any sort of confidence... Only thing I can say with confidence is they are a hard team to get a read on and an interesting one too.

Their fixture isnt quite as soft as predicted... Double u games v GWS, Adelaide an the dogs... These teams are all stronger than predicted pre season

I'm happy about that to be honest. Crows showed last year what happens when you get an armchair ride to the finals.

Its still pretty cushy...Dons and BL twice, Swans and WCE once and at SS, Hawks already out of the way (the way they scheduled the biggest modern rivalry once and in round 1 is a travesty but nvm)....

But yeah, its not the arm chair ride many were saying it was. Somewhere in between, ideal really.
