I’m on the fence. I think Round 1 will go ahead, but would not be surprised if it is delayed.

Don’t think we’ll see round 2 for a while though.

AFL will play as normal without the crowds, imagine playing West Coast in Perth on April 17th with no crowd? No noise of affirmation :tearsofjoy:

Then stopping football does nothing. The virus will still be spread regardless. So whats the point? To me it's more of a "look here we're taking action"

I'd refer you to my post half higher up on Page 2. There's a huge huge point in doing whatever can be done to slow down the spread - as opposed to avoiding getting it.

Cancel the first 5 rounds of the season and then play the last 17.

Oh wait ...

Richmond would then have 6 MCG games in the first 7 weeks if that happened :tearsofjoy:

Lmao at this over reaction. Advice should be, if u are of age, over 60, or have illness that would put you at risk, then you should avoid mass gatherings.

Lets shutdown the football but keep public transport running.....logic not even once.
Omg you people are stupid. Hospitals will not cope If we adopt that mentality.

Will go ahead with no crowds, unless a player tests positive before then. No way is it getting suspended yet, absolutely last resort.

We'll get one or possibly two rounds of footy with no crowds before a player inevitably tests positive and it's shut down for the year.

and Richmond retains the mantle of reigning premiers for another year...

Not to mention schools and the airport ffs.

Anybody who thinks any of this makes sense is an a-grade moron.

Public transport is the only form of transportation for many Australians. Without it, a large portion of the country's workforce will be unable to commute to/from work
If you really believe this flu is as deadly as some seem to believe, wouldn't this be a good thing?

The cognitive dissonance and self-contradictions going on in the minds of some people here is next-level stuff.

Orwell would be spinning in his grave. Talk about doublethink.

I reckon it will go ahead but with no crowds and with chartered (and disinfected) planes for the teams to travel in.

As far as I know disinfecting planes would have next to no effect. You primarily catch a virus from other people who have it. The best way to avoid catching a virus is to keep away from other people ... one meter away is better than closer, but two meters would be even better and three to be relatively safe.

The thing is, you can't keep three meters away from everybody else on a plane ... no matter if it is a disinfected plane or not.

Essential vs non-essential. Public transport is something that people need to get to work for their livelihood. A mortgage is still a mortgage. Sport though? Not really essential to one’s life.

Hence, it makes sense that one of the first things to go is sporting crowds. If it gets so bad that the government needs to take more measures, then public transport will go too.

Why isn't everyone being advised to wear face masks and disposable gloves in public?

Because as already well publicised: (a) face masks do f**k all to stop people catching the disease; (b) all of the spare masks and gloves in the country are needed for the health workers - who have to change them every time they see a patient.

I heard something the other day saying it takes on average 8 minutes to get a sample from someone attending one of the Perth testing stations - 30 seconds to take the swab, 7.5 minutes to change gowns, gloves and mask, and to wipe down the room.

There's a reason medical supplies is one of only three industries have seen their shares soar in the last 2-3 weeks (the other two being cleaning product/toilet roll manufacturers and food delivery organisations).

This overreaction is going to cost us our damn quality of life!

It's not the damn virus that's going to make our lives harder to live, it's the damn panic itself!

Since DECEMBER 2019:

Total infected: 134,560
Dead: 4,972

BUT!

Take away CHINA - and Italy + Iran (rare anomalies) THEN,

The stats worldwide since DECEMBER 2019 becomes:

Total infected (not dead, infected): 28,575
Dead: 357

TO PUT THINGS INTO PERSPECTIVE:

The population of residents in St Kilda is 28,141
The capacity on a 1969 typical 747 airliner is 416 (with a rare max load of 660)

We are losing our shit (and things that we enjoy) over mere nothingness!

It's not an over reaction. Wouldn't you like to get rid of the flu if given the chance?

The death rate is huge if you're over 80. It's not that big of a deal (assuming the virus doesn't mutate), but it would be a huge deal if hospitals are completely clogged for the next 8 months. That's a big part of war - it's not killing people. It's wounding them to the point where they're not able to treat their men.
