Will West Coast win the Flag ?

Everybody keeps saying how open the flag race is this season. But for mine its no more open than past years.

Yes, plenty of sides have shown the capabilities to take the scalp of a contender. But for mine, the only teams that will be able to do it week after week over the course of an entire finals series will be one of the top 5 from last year.

Eagles
Cats
Hawks
Blues
Pies

In that order for mine.

Last year was a two horse race so this year if way more open, according to your list.

Agree with that

But thats the worst line up I have seen in years from WC
Plus now that Nic Nat's not playing Essenden WILL win quite easily

Any WC supporter thinking other wise is really kidding himself

I Agree. We will go from 6-0 to 6-6.

Sarting midfield lineup of McNamara, Ebert, Priddis was better than our curent one.

Yes I am

Hey I hope I'm proven wrong but I very very much doubt it

Lycett, Brennan, Sheppard and Neates should not be getting a game

Rubbish. Brennan, Sheppard and Neates have been in good to outstanding WAFL form. This has been coming on for a while.

But really? The worst lineup for years? Where were you between 2007-2011?

OK you got me, maybe I exaggerated...a little

Its the Worst line up since 2010? . Brennan, Sheppard, Lycett and Neates form in the WAFL has been sound. But these players are not battle hardened AFL players ready to take on a RED HOT Essendon side in Melbourne. Thats why I say they should not get a game...well not this game

I'm not saying they won't develope into AFL players, they may if we give them some time against some much weaker opposition. But of coarse with all these injuries/suspensions our hands are tied

Sorry but there are too many holes in that line up not to be found out on Saturday night :thumbsu:

Even if we don't win the flag this year, you can tell its upcoming for sure. As me and my housemate started singing around the end of last season when the eagles did a kick ass play :
We're the premiers...but not this year
*to the tune of we're the eagles, we're flying high from the west coast eagles theme

It's one of the most inexperienced perhaps. I wouldn't say worst though. I think the team we field on Saturday would beat our round 1 team in 2011.

But forget it, I get your point. It'll be a huge effort to win with such an inexperienced lineup, I agree. But while perhaps these players wouldn't be getting a gig if we didn't have such a horrid injury situation, Lycett aside I believe they are ready to impact at AFL level. Brennan and Sheppard have shown good signs at AFL level in the past.

Should/when they beat a clear finals contender in Essendon at docklands on the weekend, thereby stretching their undefeated run to 7 wins in a row - the spotlight will be on them and rightly so.

They are the form interstate side after Victorian dominated premierships in the last 5 years and playing great football with clearly great depth.

I have to admit I didn't see them coming on so fast and solidifying a top 2 side after only winning the spoon 18 months ago, but players like Naitanui, Shuey, Selwood, Darling, Gaff are turning into genuine superstars they are on track to finish top TWO or outright 1st and if they do watch out.

Surely they have to be considered legitimate flag certainties??

Hi everyone, my first post! :) I expect a barrage of westcoast supporters comments stating otherwise....or not....but it takes a well oiled team to make it all the way and preform on the big occasion, they may have to lose one first to harden up and be unstoppable next year, to many squeaks at the moment....they havent been tested yet, however I may start to worry, depending on what happens saturday, cant wait, should be good!

This weekend is a HUGE test for the Eagles. If they can win this one then Eagles supporters have a right to expect their team to feature prominently in finals this year. A lot of things are working against the Eagles at the moment; injuries, a rather silly suspension, away game against an in form arch rival this weekend; it'll be tough but I just hope that the players who take the field for the Eagles all give their best effort !

I think that's a fair comment. After all, 2 of our 3 flags were preceded the year before by GF losses.

I think though that the experience gained in three finals in 2011 will prove invaluable at the crunch end of the season. I also think a serious tilt at the flag will require our long term injured stars to come back fit and firing at the business end.

It's still way too early to make a definitive call anyway. Finals seems a given to most watchers - just a matter of position I suppose.

At the crunch end? I think being hardened by those three high intensity finals games is what split the difference in the games against Richmond and North and gave us the fortitude to match also finals-hardened Hawthorn. Bottom-8 teams may get draft picks but the Top-8 gets finals experience and I think that can be worth more at times.

Yeah that was an awkward phrase, but yes those three games will make a difference even if we didn't make the GF in the end.

I'm not convinced we will make it that deep into September again - not until the next six games are out of the way anyway. The first six were relatively easy, the next six is a real barometer of where we are at and a test of the depth of the squad.
