open pubs, clubs but instead of showing

all i know is that the people recruited to help with contact tracing when someone gets a positive are mostly ex jetstar staff who have been trained for an hour or so on what to do. if these guys do their job like they do for jetstar, well, thats shit. if this app helps overcome their shitness, im all for it
To be fair contact tracing isn’t rocket science. Ask the person who they’ve had contact with, bring them in, test them. Repeat as required.

I was watching the drum (I think???)
Apparently the app doesn't work on Apple unless you have the app open and the phone unlocked
The phone automatically locks and turns it off
So its useless to half of Australia

Apparently Apple will maybe have a fix in 2 weeks ???

So are the same type of people brainwashed into getting everything Apple brand the same type of people brainwashed into downloading this app too?
I thought only 40% would be brainwashed and not half. More sheep that I thought if so.

I posted about this issue 2 weeks ago in the other COVID-19 thread you frequent, when it was being discussed and commented on regarding the Singapore version of the App.
So will you subscribe to and use the Aussie equivalent of Singapore's TraceTogether smartphone App?
A few teething problems with this app from the review comments in the Apple App Store
"Great thought with lack of usability
It is great to have a method to assist to contact tracing where time is crucial to identify people affected. But the effort seems to be counterproductive in iPhone by having the apps opened the whole time. For example, when I put the phone in my pocket, it would actually accidentally pressing other menu, or even going to other apps, and eventually the trace would not be working. This is a serious flaw, as even though we have more users, it doesn't translate into more data. Why can't we make the apps running in the background?"
"Developer Response,
Hi, when TraceTogether is in the background on iOS devices, the frequency of scans decreases to improve battery life and to protect user privacy. With the decrease in the frequency of the scans, the app will not work as intended, hence it needs to run in the foreground."

Here's more technical info on the issue from some reliable sources :)

The software works best when the iPhone is unlocked and the app is open on the screen, according to the Digital Transformation Agency (DTA), which oversees the project. A DTA spokesperson admitted there were limitations to Bluetooth functionality when an app was running in the background on an iPhone. "When [an app] is running in the background, there may be some variability in the digital handshakes on iOS devices," he said, or its ability to exchange signals with other apps on iOS. An app is foregrounded when the phone is unlocked and the app is open on the screen, according to the DTA. The background refers to when you switch from using the app to another app or when the phone is locked. This technical limitation could affect the app's ability to pick up close contacts, and so reduce its usefulness to the contact-tracing process as Australia relaxes lockdown measures. During testing, Ms Glenn said her team found "mixed" performance on iPhones when the app was in the background — or running but not the app that was in view. Apple's iOS typically prevent third-party apps from running in the background and broadcasting Bluetooth signals — a security rule that meant Singapore's TraceTogether app, on which COVIDSafe is modelled, also worked best on an unlocked iPhone. Apple and Google are building their own contact-tracing approach, and the DTA said it would determine if that capability could "enhance the performance of COVIDSafe".

Here's some more details on issues I was not aware of, about the difficulty ppl have been having with signing up to the COVIDSafe App.

... When trying to sign up, some people may see an error message that suggests their mobile number is invalid. In some instances, this can be fixed by turning off the Wi-Fi and instead using the mobile network for initial set-up. The app will also try to send a verification code via SMS. That process cannot take place over Wi-Fi if you're with mobile network operators like Telstra that don't allow Wi-Fi SMS, as Gizmodo also reported. That means the app isn't easily accessed by those without reliable mobile reception — in rural areas, for example. "If the Government is going to try and get people on board … this is an outstanding [issue] that has been open now for four days," Mr Huntley said. "It needs resolving." A Telstra spokesperson said it is planning to introduce a SMS over Wi-Fi capability into the network, and will work with the Government "on alternative methods for the COVIDSafe app to send an authentication code". While it investigates the issue, the DTA advised impacted users to register on the app over mobile network the next time they are in a coverage area. "This might be when they travel into town to purchase groceries or supplies," a spokesperson said. There are also obstacles for those who are from overseas, or who may be using numbers and devices purchased in other countries. The app only allows numbers with a +61 country code to register. Likewise, both the Android and iOS app can only be downloaded from their respective app stores with an Australian account, which means tourists and immigrant workers may not be able to use the app....

Apple/Google are coming out with an API (basically just a component that goes inside the app) which could probably help in this instance. The only issue is that Apple/Google API is based on a decentralised method whereas the Australian app is based on a centralised method (i.e. app holds data then sends to state health agency). I'm yet to see how they are going to make it work, it's like fitting a square peg into a round hole.

Unless you're talking about another Apple project.

Last time I checked, Facebook couldn't tax you, fine you, raid your house, restrict your moments etc etc etc.

People may have valid reasons to not download the app, and just because they have a Facebook account doesn't make that reason invalid.

I won't download the COVID 19 app because it might be used as part of a plan to force me to live in Rainbow Land. And I refuse to live in Rainbow Land, and nobody can make me go there!

India has mandated that all public and private-sector employees use a government-backed Bluetooth tracing app and maintain social distancing in offices as New Delhi begins easing some of its lockdown measures in lower-risk areas.
It will be the responsibility of the heads of companies and organisations "to ensure 100 per cent coverage of this app among the employees," the ministry said.

IMO, it's a waste of time implementing the App in Australia without making it mandatory like India has.
