Do you think he left his long standing club to come to WA to play more than one season? Why would anyone do that? He came for coaching and he'll move into that ASAP.
He said himself he's open to play on past 2017. Why would anyone do that? Maybe they enjoy their footy, who knows? Stupid question really

Come on every football supporter apart from Carlton supporters know Gibbs is a good player but he is a bit vanilla. He isn't going to take hold of anything like danger, Fyfe , ablett , Selwood, Judd, hodge , Mitchell the list goes on. Gibbs is more of a handy player that gets easy possessions and uses it well but not a match winner or game changer. I know you like him but can't see him doing anymore and definetly not winning you a flag

You obviously don't watch a lot of Gibbs or looked at he's stats the past couple of years. Compare he's stats with your current mids and he would've easily have been your second best mid.

All the players I mentioned that hawks, cats, pies & dogs bought in aren't the star players of the team but they play a specific & integral role. It is these players that win you flags...At the Crows, Gibbs would've had an important role in your midfield. The time is now for the Crows and Reid blew it. I'd be livid if I was a Crows supporter.

Can't see any reason why Sam couldn't play-on for another 2-3 years tbh.

Mate stats mean nothing as champion data shows Andrew McLeod was a low stat getter but he was a freak so many players get easy soft stats mean nothing Gibbs is vanilla he is useful in a link but doesn't do anything great give me Scott Thompson any day

Rubbish.
Gibbs is great but he was only going if Adel gave up this and next a first round pick. He's not That great. Adel didn't blow it. Gibbs was contacted by more than a year so Blues could demand whatever they wanted.
I think Carlton did the right thing. They recruited last year a spine (weitering, Curnow, McKay) so they need to get quality mids or go backwards.
But Adel could never give away two first rounders for Gibbs.

Danger was a no brainer he wanted to go home we helped and accepted a fair trade or he could have ended up in Queensland Boyd was brought in by the dogs they wanted trade him mid year go check their board

Stats was a minor part of my argument. My main argument is the tried and tested method of overpaying via trading for players on a team needs basis to compliment players drafted/developed to win a flag...which Reid & the Crows missed out on doing in regards to Gibbs.

Carlton people are spewing Adelaide didn't give up 2 1st round selections.
Carlton need the picks as they are rebuilding, each year Gibbs plays his value goes down the tube, in the end they will get nothing for him.
Gibbs would have been a nice addition to the Adelaide midfield but not for 2 1st round picks.

Adelaide would have been better for Gibbs as he has a chance to play in finals along side all his ex Carlton mates before his career is over.

I read it this morn why am I weeping he signed a 5 year contract two years ago when he was out of contract and snubbed the crows

The crows had a limit and Carlton didn't accept it that is how clubs work. To talk off the offield running of the club by some it's pretty damn good with never nearly gone bankrupt don't get bailed out by the AFL I suppose west coast and free can make that claim but not many others can. ohh and been a basket case stuck at the bottom

Or put us done the bottom for multiple years like some certain clubs have done to themselves. Can you name those clubs?

I think the Pies have copped unfair flak.

Their plan was clearly to improve their run and kicking skills and that's why the brought in Wells and Hoskin-Elliott and moved on Brown. Frost and Williams who all can't kick. Dunn is an improvement because he can kick, he couldn't play MFC's full zone defence but if the Pies go more on-on-one he'll be a useful pick-up. Mayne offers foreward pressure which is clearly valued. The players they let go were of little consequence and they used FA well. Total cost a future 2nd.

Glad at Least that Noticed That.

We where Knocked how bad a Kicking Side we where last season. We let go Bad Kicks Brought in Good Kicks.

Plus we did not have Many Quick Players and Brought in WHE and Wells who are know for there Speed.

YES We did not replace KPD's but there where not a Ton to Get.

Hawks obviously in salary cap pain giving up Mitchell, Lewis, Hill and two first rounders and a second for TMitch, Vickery and JOM.

Looks like they are trying to entice Fyfe or Martin as free agents next year but think they will be up against it trying to retain Breust who's a free agent himself and was put up for trade this year. Hodge and Burgoyne retiring at that time will also be a big loss to their best 22.

Most rank Gold Coasts effort as good at best - but they were always going to lose Prestia and O'Meara .
Even so - Suns extracted maximum value - so much so they have 4 top 10 draft picks before even considering a matching bid on Academy product Brad Scheer..(No prizes guessing who will win at the draft late November).
New recruits Hanley and Lyons are also safer bets to actually play for us next year...
In the process they decimated Hawthorns current and future position (with help from Saints)

You do recognize the contradiction in your post surely?

Giving up Sam & Lewy & losing Hodge & Burgoyne at the end of 2017, will mean we have ample cap-space to both accommodate Breust & sign a big-name F/A....Which - by the way - Won't be Martin....His personality hardly befits our culture.

Sounds like you have given up on 2017. Shame.
Thought you could have had a good crack at another flag.
Bring in Vickery, TMitch, JOM and keep SMitch and Lewis easily.

It's well known Hodge and Burgoyne signed smaller deals to for one year so no big gain in cap savings after 2017.

As for culture... one word. Vickery.

Gibson also....The 3 combined account for 1 $million, while Sam & Lewy accounted for 1.2 $Million....That's more than enough for Breust & a Gun or 2.:)

SMitch and Lewis were only contracted until 2017. So why discard them now and not have a crack with them next year? And as you say also retire Burgoyne, Hodge and Gibson and start a new era.

Retire them end of next year and have enough money to re-sign Breust and a FA gun for 2018.

Clearly we have accepted we're in a re-build phase....2016 was our last crack at it, with our current veterans....They've gotten too slow....Simple.

1st and 2nd in the Hawks best and fairest this year would suggest they still have plenty to offer for one more year.

We've guaranteed them both longer careers by allowing them to leave....Neither had anything more to prove at this club.

You sound more upset about them leaving than me.

I've seen the end of Scott, Matthews & Knights careers....Life moves on & so does the club....It's time to give our kids a crack at it.
