What makes you say that? Didn't one of your recruiting team say on SEN immediately after the trade period ended that if Carlton hadn't come in like they did at the last minute with that very generous trade of picks that the deal most likely would have fallen over?

If you're relying on a rival club coming in at the last minute and saving your skin like that it's very risky business indeed.

Because we traded for pick 10, so as to get him in the ND anyway....Gold Coast would have to have blown 2 top 10 picks to stop us otherwise.

We called their bluff & they folded....Mind you, We only did that, as our hand was forced by a game-playing nut-job....From which, only the Saints benefited.

Not a poker player, are you!

I dont think Hawthorn should be running any victory laps just yet .
Gold Coast off loaded a bloke who hasnt played for two years and managed to add pick 10 + lyons .
Hawthorn were very lucky to get this deal over the line before GC started to trade with Essendon with pick exchanges.
The fallout over the loss of 3 premiership players and adding only Titch and Vickers wouldve been huge .
Best out come happened for both clubs in my opinion.

LOL....Good one.

O'Meara only ever wanted to come to Hawthorn....If not via trade, then we'd have got him at pick 10 in the Nd....Why on earth do you think G/C folded?

Stop making up nonsense in your own head.

:D
What makes you think GC folded ?
Whats the worth of a player with a crook knee who hasnt played for 2 years ?
I thought the trade was fair , 1 first rounder plus Lyons seems ok but slightly in favor of GC only because of the unknown factor with JOM injury. Judging by the defensive reactions from everyone involved with hawthorn including supporters they think its a risky result .
For what its worth i wanna see JOM return to his best .

There's no accusing though, Wallace admitted to it.

No, Wallace picked the best team, played his best players in their best positions, and didn't bench anyone important at crucial times, etc. We lost by not actively trying to find a creative way to win after the fact our best team was failing anyway.

Melbourne played smalls on talls, had a questionable player selection policy, put their best players on the bench, and actively tried to reduce their odds of winning. Totally different to what Wallace admitted to.

Collingwood did extremely well. Very proud of Bucks and co.

On his last chance is FIGJAM....Wouldn't want to go backwards 6 seasons in a row....Cloke & Swan were the last of the old school, so no more excuses.

The bold is incorrect.

Also what you're stating about Wallace is still tanking, you aren't "actively trying to find a way to win" is tanking.

Lol @ people saying hawthorns trade period was a fail lol... If Mitchell and Lewis did an Enright/ Bartel and retired instead our trade period gets an A++. Yet neutrals knock it down because we got nothing for them. I'm curious to know, did all these tradeweekfailhawthorn folk believe we were a chance for the flag if we kept them next year? Because we weren't.

This is the best trade period in memory for hawthorn and will be our greatest influx of talent since the 04 draft. This will be a beautiful bump.

Not if O'Meara never gets back to his best. Which is a likelihood. Didn't get near a contested ball when I watched him in the NEAFL this year and that was his strength. I personally think he'll never be the contested player he was. Will still be a good player but it's a huge risk. I do hope he does though by some miracle as he's so good to watch even if he is a selfish prick.

He's 30 in December 2017 and wouldn't have been competing with Bennell or either of the Hill brothers for a spot.

Sure is not directly competing with the Hills or Bennell but he isn't in our primary midfield plus we have Walters playing through the midfield at times.

We have the likes of Balic, Blakely,Weller, Sheridan, Langdon, and Tucker competing for spots in the secondary midfield. Barlow would be taking away games from our kids and playing him in the WAFL benefits nobody.

Better to let him go for his stake and the club.

I know WTF is going down at Collingwood, we're building through the draft with multiple picks inside the top 10 for two consecutive years. Now over the last two years they haven't had a pick under 27 IIRC.

Obviously because we traded 2 consecutive round-one picks for one of the best young mids in the game. Likelihood of nagging a Treloar with those picks was
Slim!

Selective memory syndrome.

Demons tanked under Bailey & everyone knows it.

Interesting you say that - "Humans see what they want to see.” ― Rick Riordan

I was actually ... very fortunate to work at the MFC pre and post our "tanking" allegations. Got to know and spend many hours with the key club officials pre & post allegations.

IMHO the MFC have an awesome core of resilient, loyal and passionate supporters who always wanted to remain positive - they gave 100%.

The MFC that I worked for pre & post allegations also had a tremendous hard-working work force that gave their all for the MFC ... nobody inside the club gave anything less than 100%.

However, we did have a rotten, negative, overtly critical group ( mainly in online communities ) that revelled in vitriol directed at the club they claimed to "support." Often blaming "person x or person y" ... but in reality this group displayed their ignorance on a near daily basis ... was quite funny reading at times.

But ... I fully understand where you are coming from ... if we did the "crime" according to others then we should have to pay the "fine" ... which we did.

Think the club has moved on these days ... PJ & Roos are very positive people that surround themselves with like-minded people.

Everything I ever asked for I got ... everyone gave 100% so if thats tanking I will cop that on the chin as an MFC supporter and also move on.

With regards to Deledio vs Lewis, their value is determined here by both buying and selling teams.
- Deledio: being bought by a team topping up for a flag tilt, will pay a little bit overs
- Lewis: being moved out to a new team by the selling club, will receive a little bit unders

From what Jake Niall was saying on Foxtel's wrap up of trade period last week, Richmond is still paying a reasonable portion of Deledio's salary, which further explains the premium draft pick that they received for him.

Look I'm sure this helps you sleep at night but the facts are that it was not in Hawthorn's plans - they stuffed up and have admitted that they'd like to do it over and get a different outcome i.e. retain Lewis.

Could've had Rioli, Prestia and Caddy for the same picks.

sorry ....fail, fargotthemoderate.. that statement is simply not true and (i'd hope) you know it....

We paid a high price for Treloar, yes, but I for one think it was fair enough ... he had a great first season for us... I'm not sure how three players that were never on Collingwood's radar are relevant.

Nice troll, I never said we were happy for him to go.

Once it was clear it was happening, it was more about facilitating the move rather than trying to get maximum value.

Terry actively chose the best team and played them in their best position. He didn't actively try to lose. All Terry Wallace admitted to was not feeling motivated to pulling a rabbit out of the hat.

Any rational thinker can see the difference.
