Who is coming out of the woodwork in the next 4-5 months now for selection ???

Volpato? Can’t see there being any other major surprises

Our biggest issue is the striker arnie will pick his favoured plodders duke taggart etc

Tommy Rogic will be back, maybe Fornaroli, Rhyan Grant and Brimmer could all be added to the squad in the coming months...

The thing is, play the football of the past two games. Thought finally Australia look better offensively and attacking. Much better shape and formation.
Arnold did a great job this training camp. He just needs to have faith and play with more attacking intent
I wanted Arnie sacked after the Asian qualifiers just because of the negative mindset he had us playing even against weaker opponents. Thankfully in the playoffs where it's sudden death he finally allowed the team to play with more attacking intent as you say.

Especially since Italy didn't qualify (again LOL).
I looked back at Roberto Baggio and his years in the national side. Played in world cup in 1990, 1994 and 1998. Didn't play in the 1988, 1992, 1996 and 2000 euros. He was underappreciated in Italy.

Ian Wright had a good club career for crystal place and Arsenal and west ham.

Didn't get in the 1990 world cup team. Was injured during the euro 1992 tournament. England didn't make world cup 1994. Didn't get in the euro 1996 team and wasn't in the 1998 world cup despite playing a good season for Arsenals team that won the premier league

Tony Dorigo was raised in Melbourne and Adelaide. Yet represented England in the 1990 world cup despite being born in Australia.

In amongst all the Redmayne clown show stuff just quietly our pens (bar Boyles) were pretty much perfect
Toss up between Hrustic and Mabil for the best penalty. Hrustic for his football smarts while I loved Mabil keeping his composure when the Peruvian keeper was trying every trick in the book to put him off.

Šimunić was the last one for us?

Croatia over us

Watched the divine ponytail movie, loved him as a kid
2006 world cup squad wasn't it? Wasnt there another Aussie that played alongside him in that world cup?
i just remember him not doing us a solid and using his Aussie accent to escape a red

Thought successful kicks were all excellent.Goodwin because of the risk of higher kick but that was unstoppable due to height

Brilliant result.

Was planning on watching on delay this morning but found myself wide awake just before 5am so managed to watch live from half time.

Thought we played quite well though we really do lack that quality up front. I was surprised at how poor Peru were, we were clearly the better side and deserved to advance, though it wasn't looking good there through extra time.

Love him or hate him Arnie got us through the toughest qualification you're ever likely to see and for that he, along with all staff and every player who has been a part of the process, deserves a lot of credit. What was it, 2 or 3 qualifiers at home?

We're not likely to miss a World Cup again (if the 48 team format stays permanent) but it should never ever be underestimated just how big an achievement it is to make it there. Oh, we're going to get smacked, you say - whilst that may be so, it is hardly the point.

This is massive for soccer in Australia and I hope that the sport really uses it as a launching pad from which it can correct itself, because the path it has been on for a while has been the wrong one.

Didn't watch the game in it's entirety but wow what a win certainly didn't expect that. My partner came running out of the shower when she thought something happened to me as I screamed in jubilation. She then told me off for screaming, and told me to consider the neighbours, but to be honest couldn't give a stuff about the neighbours, also wasn't that loud. Anyway loved reading through this thread with the melting going on. Didn't realise the keeper jumping around caused such a stir. Anyway we are through that's all that matters.

Absolutely thrilled this morning, pumped with the result.

On the Volpato discussion, I am a big believer in reducing the leeway a player has when representing a nation. It's become almost a club situation, with players waiting for the best offer before deciding. Need to tighten the criteria, as it should most definitely be obvious which nation each player can represent, and only up for debate in unique scenarios. Also a player should be tied after one senior competitive appearance.
