Round 1 -

Have to apply my views on who we'll like select but am disappointed for those we may not be able to fit in.
- Have to include Gibbons, Newnes, Martin and Betts.

Simpson Jones Plowman
Docherty Weitering SPS - Hard to argue against that.

Kreuzer Cripps Murphy
Walsh Setterfield Newnes

Martin
Casboult Fisher
Betts McKay McGovern

ECurnow Gibbons Newman Cuningham.

So, I'm now leaving out Dow, JSilvagni, Williamson, O'Brien, Marchbank, Stocker and CCurnow. That's bad.
Very likely RD1 team, as experience may trump youth here
But, personally I would like to leave out either Newnes or Newman for one of the younger guys - whoever performed best out of in pre-season games
Dow, JSilvagni, Williamson, O'Brien or Stocker

No matter what best 22 looks like at the end of the year, I get the feeling Teague will want a mature group early in the season.

I think guys like Newnes, Newman, Gibbons, Levi, along with Simmo, Betts, Murph, Ed all start round 1

could not agree more, if anyone thinks we have bought a guy like Newnes into the club with 150 games of experience, who is a solid contributor and can run all day at AFL level to play seconds you're seriously mistaken. Guys like Newnes, Murph, Simmo, Ed Curnow will be walk up starts in the 22 and its up to the young guys to perform at a really high level consistently in order to take their place. We know what these guys can do - Dow, LOB, Stocker might be tearing up the training track but 4 qtr performances week in and out at AFL level on game day are another thing.

We've brought in Newnes, Martin and Betts this off season, Doc returns from injury and they are 4 absolute walk up starts into the 22 if they are fit in RD 1. It means 4 guys who got games last year won't save for injuries.

Dow, LOB, Fisher, Kennedy, JSOS, Williamson need to play out of their skins to get into this 22 unless we have injuries.Great problem to have.

Whose got a better midfield?

Kreuzer Cripps Curnow
Murphy Walsh Setterfield

OR

Martin Neale Robinson
McCluggage Lyons Ellis-Yeomen

Chances are that more neutrals may say Brisbane and that's fine.
We know where we are and the depth of the midfield that may yet develop under Teague.

Sum of the parts game and Brisbane are tracking nicely at both ends of the ground but so are we, albeit we're a little younger.

I’m really warming to the inclusion of seasoned ‘mature’ players like Eddie, Martin, Doc and Newnes playing round 1.
if they are all fit and ready to go they add another dimension to an extremely talented but youthful group.

kruez, Murph, Ed, Doc, Cripps, Simmo, Jones, Levi, Eddie, Martin, Plowman and Newnes bring experience and hardness to each line.

Thats a dozen senior players PLUS our 22-24 year olds of Weitering, McGovern, Harry, Charlie, JSOS, Newman, Gibbons & Cuningham.

Add Walsh and that’s 20+ players who can either match their opponents physically and/or run all day both-ways, which is a necessity in today’s game.

which one of our talented youngsters goes in before any of these players?

Rnd 1 - Ill assume Marchy and H will be ready rnd 1. Dow in for me purely going by reports that he is tearing it up in PS training. Cunners is in for the same reason although it wouldnt surprise me if he gets injured btw now and rnd 1. Its tough picking a side, we are starting to build depth now.
On the left are all the blokes I cant fit in, you could swap Newman for Simmo

he might be on after the first goal (first minute)..........
Kicking first goal and within a minute would be an awesome start. And we have started well before but I really want to see more consistency throughout the game. We should start to see more consistency this year with the inclusions of some new experienced recruits, having doc back and players maturing.

...they’ve put Martin on bench. I think this is wrong. He needs to be named on the field first up. You don’t put an experienced recruit on good money on the bench for round 1. Maybe swap jack and Martin.

Not a bad effort from them it’s pretty close, expected worse but they need to switch around Jones at CHB and Weitering at full back.

Most non Carlton folk wouldn’t know a whole lot about Cuningham so i look past that

Would we want both plow and Marchy against tigers with their small forward brigade

So this is my structure for the team:

Small Defender, Tall Defender, Medium Defender
Small Defender, Tall Defender, Intercept Defender
Wingman, Inside Midfielder, Wingman
Small Forward, Tall Forward, Mid-Forward
Small Forward, Tall Forward, Medium Forward
Ruck, Inside Mid, Balanced Mid

Balanced Mid, Best Fit, Best Fit, Best Fit

Definitions in this very long post of mine: https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/2019-list-management-discussion-ii.1225291/post-63925489

And based on that I have us lining up for Round 1 as:

B:Docherty Jones Plowman
HB: Newman Weitering Marchbank
C: Walsh Cripps Newnes
HF: Cuningham McGovern Martin
F: Betts, McKay, Kennedy
R: Kreuzer, Setterfield, Fisher

Murphy, E. Curnow, Petrevski-Seton, Gibbons

There are a lot of tight calls in there.

No Simmo, Dow, O'Brien, Levi
