From Fitzroy:

Doc Wheildon and for those real die-hards; Jamie 'Spider' Shaw, only played 2 games, but easily one of the biggest cult-hero's to play so few games. Was a legend down at Preston and came with a huge reputation but cruelled by injuries.

Luke O'Sullivan.

His side burns were longer than his legs. Took about 10 years to play 50 games but was a cult hero and apparently only survived so long because the other players loved having him around.

From other clubs, what about Adrian McAdam?

good memory!
yeah...i think the storey goes he footy bounced off a goal post and smacked him in the face.
was the rumour about Pooley not being into women true? that was a very strong rumour back in the day.

"Weed" Weidemann for Adelaide was massive back in the day, Danny Southern as well.

The Full Forwards in the 90's always got the cult status - Jeff Hogg, Doc Whelan, Simon Minton-Connell, Danny Del Rae, John Hutton, Anthony Mellington.

Loved the Back Pockets as well - Ronnie Delulio, Scott Bamford, Dean Rice, Ray Jenke and Peter Berbakov.

Wayne Lamb from Fitzroy? Actually the Lions had a few others. Jim Wynd, Danny Morton, John Rombotis, John McCarthey, Matthew Dent!

Doggies - Sedat Sir, Steven Kolyniuk, Tony Campbell, Mark West, Brad Wira.

Could go on for days...

Dunno about that. Pretty sure the reason he quit footy the first time was so he could spend more time with his sick wife before she passed away.

Besides Doc Wheildon, none of those Fitzroy players were what you would call ex-cult hero's per se, but its nice to reminisce about such names from the old Fitzroy.

Mickey Conlan was another one I failed to mention earlier. What about Michael Reeves, the ruckman who wore the gridion pants in the 86 Elimination Final agaisnt the Bombers to combat Simon Madden kneeing him in the thigh in ruck contests. Big John Ironmonger was another who was a cult hero down at the Roys.
