Hauritz and Johnson in particular are on big notice.... need to pull their fingers out...

We desperately need a world class spinner...

Out: Hussey, Hauritz

North: gets two tests to prove himself. If he gets 4 scores under 30 he's out and Khawaja in.

Johnson: If he acts like a pussy then we need to bring in Copeland or Hazelwood.

Even though it was a one-dayer that brainless exhibition of bowling by Johnson and Siddle last night has caused a re-think. I'm most p1ssed off still.

Having a bit of fun, but maybe this is what I'd go with at the moment if I was a selector.

Seems to be a bit of complacency in the Australian team, I reckon a few people need to go. Shake it up a bit.

Just wondering if people have seen Steve Smith bowl...? In the Twenty20 he threw down some half trackers, and is nowhere near consistent enough to play as a frontline spinner in tests...

Now i'm Smithy's biggest fan and earlier in this thread ic alled for him to be in the team for Hauritz, but i have since reassessed and had a decent think...

He's number 6 for us...

A continual ability to take wickets at less than 30 would do it.
Yeah he's great ain't he.
I love it when he sprays wides down legside & shitty half-trackers waiting to be belted, walks back to his mark & whinges about the fieldsmen not being good enough to catch that six.
I love it when he makes 40 runs in a five-test series & everyone somehow applauds his batting.
I love it when he gets taken to the cleaners by Cook & Strauss, Imran Farhat & Shoaib Malik or Dinesh Ramdin & Brendan Nash. It's not like these guys are world beaters.
I love it when he is touted as our best strike bowler but he can't seem to trouble Monty Panesar, James Anderson, Dale Steyn, Lasith Malinga etc.
And I especially love it when he flatters himself by cleaning up the New Zealand tail after Hilfy & Douggie have done all the hard work.

He really is a marvellous cricketer. I LOVE HIM.

So on the one hand he is guilty of not getting out tailenders, and on the other he flatters his figures by getting out tailenders?

Wickets taken against 1-7 batsmen

Hilfenhaus 83.4 %
Bollinger 73.5%
Johnson 71.1%
Siddle 63.3%
Hauritz 61.9%

Katich, Watson, Ponting (c), Clarke, M.Hussey, North, Haddin (wk), Johnson, Doherty (debut), Hilfenhaus, Bollinger, Harris (12th Man)

No surprises really apart from Doherty. He has to play in my opinion, yesterday helped but his form has been good for a while. Much prefer an orthodox bowler than an off-spinner.
No fc batsman has really knocked the door down on taking selection so my thoughts are to go in as unchanged. Stability is the key I think, as much i want north in particular to be out of the team.

Very quick stats there Cousin Jed, 8 minute turnaround.

Great mod work!

The good people at howstat never let me down.

Great mod work would be issuing a card within 1 minute though ;)

For the record I have grown tired of Johnson myself, but until there is clearly 3 fit quicks that are better he'll be in the team.

The lack of fit fast bowlers at the moment helps him.

Khawaja?

You'd want North out, and Usman has been performing as good as you could hope for so far, how close did he come in your calculations?

Firstly, plenty of batsmen have been knocking the door down. Hughes still averages 55 at FC level, and 52 at Test level, while Khawaja, Smith, and even White have been regularly performing very well indeed in FC cricket in recent seasons.

Secondly, Doherty has an rubbish FC record; there is absolutely no reason to gift him a game. If you HAD to make a change, and wanted an orthodox spinner, Stephen O'Keefe, who has a FC average of 25 (and 52 with the bat, though with plenty of n.o.'s boosting that), would be a much more sensible choice. If you wanted to "retire" Hauritz, Doherty should play in ODIs, SOK in Tests (and if necessary, Smith at 6 and bowling his leggies as a part-timer/allrounder).

You did well to not mention Ferguson in your post, well done, your bias has shown through once again.

Bias? I have called for Ferguson's inclusion in the ODI team (though for whom I'm not sure, it's a tough choice).

However, Ferguson has not once performed to a level in FC cricket that suggests he is ready for Test action. The highest average he has managed over a season is 42 FFS!

Still sitting on the fence in regards to Haddin or Paine, won't mind which way they go to be honest. Paine is probably a better keeper, but Haddin the better bat, although Haddin seems to go missing when the team really needs some runs from him. I think Johnson is the worst of the four quicks, consistently bowls garbage and if he couldn't bat and field extremely well for a fast bowler I have no doubts he wouldn't be in the team. North and Hussey, goodbye you have had your chances and your time is up, we need some youth to prepare for the future, Hughes and Khawaja are exactly that.

White hasn't played much first class cricket at all lately. What are his most recent scores for the Vics in first class cricket. I'd like to see him go back to shield cricket dominate and then be selected for test cricket but until that happens I feel he is an ODI, T20 specialist.
