I'm not privy to what the club has offered, but it is not really important. The Tuohy deal will get done, because you can't pay him what we can and you won't want to lose him for nothing. We can afford to lose him, we have Thurlow, Guthrie, Ruggles, Kolo and Mackie as options off halfback, with Lang, Cowan, Murdoch and possibly Bartel pushing for a spot.

So a deal will get done, and we will do our best to flip a good return, but I wouldn't get excited about this trade.
Are you really that dumb?

He can't be that good if even after 4 years Carlton supporters still can't spell Tuohy's name correctly

Really? That's what we are down to?

Yep and if they match the contact we offered zach then i guess he'll be playing for North next year. Either way Carlton doesn't get anything in return which I'd assume would be disappointing for Carlton supporters?
Whilst it would seem that way, id rather he get to a team on the way down the ladder than to a potential top 4 side, as we may then be able to convince him to stay.

Like you guys with motlop, you'll keep him now that you couldn't get a deal you felt was reasonable. I feel the same way about Zach.

If a 3 way deal meant geelong traded their pick 38 and cockatoo and got tuohy and deledio, would geelong supporters be satisfied?
No. Cockatoo isn't going anywhere.

But Motlop has a contract so he's just honouring that as no suitable deal was found. Bit different when Tuohy is ooc but a trade doesn't seem to be close so something has to happen soon.

By all accounts he wanted to stay until our offer didn't meet his expectations. I'm sure we could change his mind away from geelong who obviously don't value him enough to offer a fair trade.

May I suggest the Tom Mitchell thread as good reading. Basically a mirror of this thread with pointless posturing until finally a fair deal is struck.

This thread is painful enough let alone another one. Hawks did well to get Mitchell for pick 14.
Geelong are a fair team to trade with obviously after last year a lot of picks and trading power is gone. We'll see how it pans out no one wants their team to give away too much and they want the world in return.

Nope.

Cocky is 20. Pick 10 talent and getting better each year with easily 10 years of footy in front of him.

So you'd give up Cripps and pick 40 for Bartel and Jackson Thurlow.

So you'd rather lose him for nothing and go to club he does not want to go to rather than supporting your player in moving him on.

Ok. o_O

No. I'd rather retain him than let him go for unders, which means there's a risk we will get nothing.

Today's AFL article have mentioned the Blues brought up the possibility of Smedts. Smedts + 38 would satisfy both parties I'd think? If Smedts can stay fit, he was a first round pick and is talented and good on the wings.

How bad are Smedt's injuries?

Injuries aside, i would be content enough with that trade.

But if Smedt's just can't get on the park, then no.

They aren't generally major, he had ankle issues very early on, but last year it was a broken collarbone, then shoulder surgery in the offseason (for an issue he's had since he was a junior), then a broken leg this year. Probably unlucky, it isn't as if he keeps doing hammies or ACL's

It's good that it's not a recurring injury...but bad that it suggests his whole body is just a bit fragile lol...unless all are super unlucky impact injuries.

you got rid of club legends for little benefit and you want to talk about dealing with players terribly? Yeah Nah Nah

Little benefit. Hah. Right.

We've been competitive for 10 years now, appearing in 4 GFs, a couple of prelims and almost every finals series in that time (and no real sign of stopping in 2017). Most clubs, bar Hawthorn, would trade all their club legends to the Northern Blues tomorrow for that sort of run.

Low-balling players isn't something we do.

No to injury prone players.

Pick 38 + 2017 second round pick for Tuohy + Pick 58

You would sign a player like Zach for the money we offered him because you are near the top, we aren't offering him overs to match what rivals will pay to bring him in.

Its smart list management, if we offer every player like Zach overs to match contract offers from other clubs we end up with 3/4 less players of that ilk on our list for the same cost. Because of the minimum salary cap spend it is much wiser for bottom clubs to use cash cows to artificially lower their minimum salary cap spend.

The dogs are a good example, Because they paid Boyd so much money they effectively lowered their payments to 75% of the cap for their actual playing list. They will have cleared most of Boyd's salary now which will allow them to increase the offers they give players like Bont, Libba given they have a quarter of a cap free which will allow them to keep that team together for longer.

Pick 38 + 2017 second round pick for Tuohy + Pick 58

You will get 38 or next years second not both.

Time to see if SOS has a sensible hat to put on.
