They don't, North has the earlier pick. North has offered Tuohy a contract, as has Geelong. North's was less years and less dollars than Geelong's so they'll have to match it if they pick him up. I'd prefer we just traded him in to be honest, but it is increasingly looking unlikely as despite Geelong paying overs for Hendo last year, Carlton sees no point in keeping good faith between the clubs and giving us Tuohy for slight unders (pick 38) which is unfortunate.

Tuohy doesnt hate the club he is a required player and he knows the Blues are following a list management strategy for the future. He is welcome to seek that $100k per year elsewhere. If we don't get a trade done and boost his annual take by $50k per year and extend a year on his contract he will sign on before the PSD.

Lucky they have a pick before North otherwise they would have snapped him up - right?
Missing both him and Deledio this trade period would be disastrous

Actually missing deledio is ideal but thats for the other thread.

Don't think that will cut it - we are losing a starting 22 player not going that cheaply.

Thats ok you can lose him cheaper (ie for nothing) in the draft then. Swings and roundabouts you win some you lose some. Anyway it wont come to that carlton will be sensible on thursday.

Pick 38 isn't slight unders its worthless, not since Fevola and Ling has it drafted an AFL standard player and that was 17/18 years ago.

No it wouldn't be disastrous at all - we weren't planning on trading in anyone and two players approached us. And surprise we don't really have the currency to get those done.

Thats our problem - its a matter of principle.

Not having much luck bringing in talent this year the cats. They need to get this Tuohy deal done.

Maybe you should concern yourself with what your own club needs to get done.

Not being bullied by clubs that have no currency to trade with, is one of those things

I dont know how much explaining you need to understand that tuohy approached us not the other way around.

Better to lose him for nothing I guess?
Keep thinking this will happen, we can at any time choose to offer the contract you have on the table and he will stay, he is ONLY shopping himself around because we told him to similar to Kruezer last year and like last year when we weren't going to get anything of substance for him we upped our offer and re-signed him.

His manager is looking for the best interest of his client and you made an offer.. it's how it works. Players dont knock on clubs doors and say I want to come to your club.

He'd know, he has built a 3x flag winning team in the last decade. But then again, you're a 12 year member of BF so you'd probably know more?
I don't see why bringing up how many years I've been on Bigfooty is relevant to how people evaluate my opinion on Geelong and their trading.

Amazing some Geelong posters get touchy as soon as someone has a differing opinion to theirs.

And according to you Wells offered Tuohy a 5 year contract. Astounding for a player that approached the cats and they aren't fussed whether he lands with them or not.

If a deal is not done it harms carlton not geelong.

In any case i am starting to think your posting is a bit too affected by pinot for this conversation to be worthwhile.

Great way to treat your players. "We don't think you're worth much, so here is a shit contract deal. If we can't sell you for something way overs in return we'll just offer you whatever some other team offers you"

Differing opinion or being a smartass?

There was also interest from Sydney and North. Geelong sold him on their club and contract but hadn't worked out what currency they could use.

It wasn't a shit contract offer. It was over 300k and it was for 3 years.

How is thinking that if Geelong go in with the same squad next year they won't win a flag being a smart ass? They need talent off half back and run, carry and precise delivery into the forward line. Two players coming in this year could be the difference between snatching a flag and middling out the 8.

Believe it or not clubs can actually change currency throughout the trade period.

I absolutely believe it. I just haven't seen it happen yet.

You are aware the first 3/4 of the trade period is always a snorefest designed to help trade radio make money through clickbait.
