Still image of English on Blakey in the Herald Sun doesn’t look great. Looks like his elbow connected with his chin. Multiple weeks?
Would be a huge loss given the form he’s been in. But if Sweet could make something of the opportunity could be a blessing long term.

Bevo is not about to play him unless his hand is forced.

Worst case scenario is a week. Given Blakey got back up and played out the game. Only way it becomes multiple weeks is if it resulted in concussion or a broken jaw.

Defensive effort was massive. Dunkley led the way in the middle but they all got their hands dirty with that grunt work. From where I was behind goals I could see our zone in work and it was great to watch. Still a lot to improve with our composure but defence wins footy, so I rapt to see us get that so right.

A lot of positives out of that game with intent, defensive work and players form.

English big step forward.

Gardner was good in his defensive job but he still needs to use the ball better/make better decisions with it. Not just this game but a few times this year he’s had a short option and has bombed long instead under no pressure turning the ball over.

VDM much more improved than previous rounds, backed his decisions a lot more but did still make some bad skill errors and a couple of times stopped playing to look for a free.

Duryea was super, back to his form of last year.

Midfield was very good this week going both ways, especially bought that defensive edge.

JUH contest work and aggression was outstanding tonight. That’s all he has to do, the other stuff will come off the back of that.

Our kicking for goal wasn't even that bad. Only actually kicked 9.12 and the only really easy ones I recall were Wallis (probably a bit rusty and tense) and maybe Naughton 40m out straight in front (not that easy). The real problem was not creating more easy scoring chances from such a dominant midfield display.

However Sydney react to the umpiring can surely be nowhere near as bad as the 100 page thread on the Adelaide board which fanned out over the internet to include doxxing like that game a few years back (can't even remember the name of the ump in question as well)
Troy Pannell 😀

Loved the intent right from the start and the quicker ball movement.
Not as bullish as some on English’s game. Looked good around the ground but tap work , especially after their ruckman went off was not as dominant as I thought it would be. VDM and Scott likewise were not as good as I hoped. The story seems to be the same each week. Do some good things, do some not so good things every game. Yes VDM has pace but it doesn’t count for much laying on the ground so much.
Hannan- I just don’t see it.
JUH - I see it.
Bont - is so good we can’t give him a week off to get over an injury.
Dunks. Libba and Keath - as good as always.
Dale and Smith- not as good users of the ball as they think.
Much better effort from the boys.

I agree it can be learned. And taught.

I'm just saying Tory himself said he wasn't the man to do the teaching.

We ask just about every week "why hasn't it been fixed?"
There are specialists in this area, would hope that we use them.

Kicking for goal is basically as simple as striking the right part of the ball with the shoulders aligned to where you are kicking then following through the kick to the target.

Players are different on how they get to that position, which is why it can be very different for each player, but specialist one on one work would certainly get them more consistent than they are now.

Our worst offenders are rarely in the right position at contact and that impacts the follow through
