These types of calls are always met with groans from the crowd (whoever the team) because they're not super obvious to the eye and the rule doesn't seem all that well known. To an umpire though it's a very easy decision.
English also got a crucial one against Big O in the dying minutes of the SF, leading to the play that allowed VDM to scramble the ball through for the winning behind :).

I just noticed you also did an umpire review. I'm not bothered to look at it in detail but did see this one which you called incorrect (either way it was inconsequential towards the result given it happened right at the end, but by way of explanation):

This is very clearly the correct call for a ruck infringement, it couldn't even be considered soft or grey. You simply can't make contact with the opposing ruck when on the other side of the ball, it's a block. It's an often misunderstood rule, one which inexperienced/part time ruckman often get caught out on.

I’ve never heard the commentators explain it - there’s a chance they’re not too wise to it either. Are there any former ruckmen doing the commentary on Fox? Nobody springs to mind.
Footy commentators, with very few exceptions are pathetic. They lack knowledge, or if they have it, they cannot explain. They should take a leaf out of soccer commentators in the UK.

So you’d go Tim one out against two brute rucks like Soldo & Nank? Perfect way to kill him like we did against Blues who also have a brute style ruck. Let’s support him properly rather than running him into the ground.

We signed Sweet to a 2 year extension and backed him in as the only ruck on the list that’s not 36 yo, so if he’s not up to it as you say I guess you’re also saying that the people who made this decision are incompetent? Big call bro I wouldn’t go that far personally
No they signed him on a minimum contract with the view that ruckman take time to develop. Not saying he isn’t worth persisting with but if he can’t make an impact currently in the VFL then not sure why you think he would in the AFL.

They are still talking about the umpires on the Swans board..
I'm sure it's a balanced discussion about how they can improve by giving away less free kicks?
