Review Swan Bake - encore performance (Round 20)

Selection hasn’t cost us any games this year.

The games we’ve lost, our execution has been dog shit, or we played well and just couldn’t get over the line (Cats and Swans first time).

Selection hasn’t changed much besides accomodating injuries with only some minor tweaking with roles (Richards the main one).

2 key backs (if Khamis can be called a key back) for nearly every game. This week one of the outliers. We’ve persisted with the small forwards in West and Vanders, with McNeil making cameos. Daniel been on the outer from Rd 1. Macrae’s improved in his unchanged new role.

Whatever was planned over the off season has taken a while to work, we’re now reaping the benefits. As others have said, we’re the in form side in the comp and will be dangerous if we make finals. It’s still a big if though if the last two seasons are anything to go by. Hopefully we’re not the mentally weak team we have been. The last 3 weeks suggest we’re not.

Someone posted that he was a smartarse and up in Bont’s grille last time we played - barring major in game injuries that day we would have won that too.

He’s a massive frontrunner

Warner hasn’t had double digit contested possessions in his last 8 games. Swans need a lot more from him atm.

How bad are their special comments team? Jones, Burgoyne, Selwood, Cotchin, Hodge, Watson. Hardly only of them can string a sentence together. It’s shocking compared to fox.
It's a shame even with the SCG's dreadful camera options Channel 7 directors generally do a better job than Fox. More zooming out, more use of different camera angles and quicker changes between them, more use of footage from behind the goals to see the player's options.

Fox Footy still broadcast a game like the 90's with extended video cuts zoomed in a player. We have HD TV in the 21st century. I can make out the player with the ball when you zoom out, Fox.

I was wrong. The recruitment team, the selection panel were right. The recruitment of Lachie Bramble is the steal of the year. Now an integral part of this team. He just needed to feel the faith and love, he has repaid I spades.
This recruitment has released the ginger ninja to the midfield, which in turn has energised our season.
I'm still a massive critic of VDMs selection but well done to Lachie and the people behind his continued improvement.
👍
The whole team has been a revelation in recent weeks, but (along with Lobb) Bramble just about tops the list.

Earlier in the year he was solid enough but seemed pretty limited as an outside role player.

All of a sudden he seems untacklable in tight spaces and dynamic in creating space.

I watched him yesterday and thought he would be effective as an inside mid.

Amazing.

Bramble is giving Shane Biggs - Never Forget level right now. Let’s hope his form continues.
Great pick up!

OK, the elephant in the room - kicking for goal.

ha ha , lets not lose our minds. Earlier in the year he was hot potato with the ball in hand, and not positioning himself well to recieve. Him and Dale have been told its their responsibility to carry the ball and draw defenders, and he seems capable of doing that.

It's balls by both Bevo and the list management team to recruit a fringe player from a team that was a bottom team last year, and who was already a mature ager when recruited the first time round (so argument that he already had his "mature ager" bonus of extra effort in his first year/two), believe that he was being played out of position, and recruit him and make him such a key piece of a finals team. You don't make a push for top 4 without taking risks like that, but this seems like a well-researched, calculated risk that has paid off, which makes more sense the deeper it's analysed but at surface level just looks ridiculous.

In case people have forgotten, Bramble was only selected in the starting 22 for 8 of 23 games for the Hawks last year while being fit for the whole year for a team that went 7-15 and finished third last, and was delisted to make way for younger players as they were pushing their way up.

It was great making the Harlem Globetrotters look like the Washington Generals. The Swan supporters on social media have gone very quiet of late. I love Blood Culture. If Blood Culture was around in the early 80’s they’d still be South Melbourne.

Do not doubt the power of the jalepeno.

Did that really happen? I'm trying to convince my brother to fly out for the Finals. He was last here six years ago and we had to settle for a Richmond/Hawthorn Qualifying Final. It's the only game he's seen live. Richmond won. Ugh.

You need to be eating jalapenos every day, to help build up our chances during the week, and then unleash the jalapeno pizza on Friday night for the killer blow.

ABC, it's all about Sydney apparently:

Nothing to do with us or how we played apparently.
On the upside, they can all continue to underestimate us.

This Friday is so bloody massive. Obviously coming off a 5 day break (albeit the last quarter of yesterday's game would have been played at a much calmer pace both mentally and physically), can properly end the Demons season and dynasty, consolidate the hard earned breathing space we have given ourselves and put some pressure on Carlton, GWS, Port, Geelong etc... to win or see us pass them by.

Shout out to Rhylee West, playing such an important role.

Never seen a player whine as much during a game from his own mistakes as Errol Guldon. What a little bitch. Was horrible all day and still complained
Special mention to Chad Warner for playing for a free instead of going for the ball and then complaining to the ump instead of continuing in the play - was late in the game, he’d only had about 10 touches for the day and still wasn’t committed to try get a kick himself

Wtf was he doing with that Lobb 50 metre penalty?? I was baffled, meanwhile the Sydney crowd had blank faces as if they had no idea what was going on (they probably didn’t).

Only 11 touches for the day, I'm sure that Barrett will still suck him off for it.

Even in the earlier game against us he was pretty poor apart from the 20 minute he went bananas. Yes it was an unbelievable 20 mins but Sydney should take all the picks from Freo if they offer them, Warner is too flakey.
