It's funny how quickly some players get taken for granted.

Bailey Dale was superb last night but barely cracks a mention anywhere.

Reckon he's progressed from an AA year in 2021.

The game high 734 metres gained, 27 possession stats are almost a given but loving that 10 possies were contested, 6 intercepts and won 2 clearances also.
There's no doubt in my mind that we rate a player's performance against his own benchmark and not against his teammates or an AFL benchmark. I think we are all guilty of it at times (I know I am). I mean you just know Bont is going to cleave through traffic and deliver a bullet inside 50 so you barely blink, but holy crap if Cordy or Hannan did that you'd be leaping out of your chair.

FWIW I gave Dale 2 votes in the Ching. I thought he was great, even if he did overkick his passes a few times.

This is very true. I remember watching a segment of play from Will Hayes I think back in 2019. He'd had a pretty typical game, until one point where he had the ball at the 50m arc, shrugged a tackle, sold the candy to a player, sidestepped another and launched it from about 45 for a goal. Was absolutely incredible seeing him pull it off, and I remember thinking "wow, he's getting so much better". He played a few more games before being delisted

havent had a chance to see the game yet - what happened to Roarke? I thought he was showing some good signs in the first two games - what position did he play?
Roarke was just OK last night. Did a few nice things but was probably in our bottom six. That's not a criticism, mind. They can't all be BoG in a dominant team performance.

I think he has developed a false reputation as a spud with some here. He goes OK and shows that same work ethic that we have seen in so many rookie recruits over the years (M Boyd, Picken, Moz, etc). Those with short memories will have forgotten he was one of our better players in last year's Grand Final (2 votes in the Ching). Any player who stands up in a GF has got quite a few brownie points in my book, and probably in Bevo's too.

Doubt he'll get the chop next week.

I’m glad Keath played like he did. Hopefully his early season struggles was just a lack of confidence in his body because I was a little concerned he was trending towards cooked.

The reality is that unless he plays like he did last year then we are zero hope of challenging this year.
Both Keathy and Gard's stood up last night and be counted, also very happy with doc's effort.
I have been critical of Gardner's games but he played a great role on buddy.

Is all about effort to play 4 quarters, and maintain consistency.
Bevo better show the goal kicking over over and over again.
You have to identify your weakness and want learn from it. Don't move on without a review.

I returned to Chicago a couple of days after our Grand Final win so I guess I never really experienced the saltiness of Swan supporters. My eyes have been opened. It's delightful to read many of the comments on their board.

He played wing. Played his role really well.

Yikes

I previously said all revolutions will have a misfired shot, hitting the wrong target

We had 17. Typically a revolution would be crushed well before this, yet we prevail

The Bolsheviks had a newspaper called Iskra, translated to english it mmeans The Spark and that is what I saw last night

Viva La Revolucion!!

He also blocks very well for Naughton when he’s forward as well.
Agreed, he was the very definition of a good role player last night. He didn’t star, but played his role forward and back and what he did, he did well.

Similar for Roarke, didn’t get much of the ball last night but his defensive running on the wing to plug holes/pickup a man was outstanding and contributed to us shutting the swans down and allowing Hunter licence to roam forward more.

They both added to the team performance, as someone else said, they can’t all be Bont.

No charge against English. Wicks fined $2000 for striking Alex Keath.

Just watched the game again and those that said Scott didn't play well need to look at some of his pressure acts!

Hannan, well the bloke will take a speccy from time to time but honestly I am not seeing how he is getting a game especially when he plays forward. Always looking to try and body his player under the ball to get cheapies out the back. He offers nothing on a consistent basis. Mitch Wallis is slower but a thousand times more physical and aggressive and would definitely add more if he was given the same opportunity that Hannan has received.

Hunter played better, im not a fan, he just looks smug and sometimes this come through in his demeanour and performances but credit to him tonight except for the little dicky kick late in the game that nearly cost us.

Tim English, you rucked the whole game and were exhausted but geez you did well tonight son! Kudos to you! Anyone who thinks he didn't perform needs to watch what he did tonight. As Teddy would say Tim....."stick it up em"

Ed Richards, love your aggression and intensity at the ball and man. You did your job!

Vandemeer.... you dont have footy iq....and make some poor hesitant decision going forward but you are willing to tackle and chase which might just keep you in the side.

JUH... application defensively was much better! You can tell it's not an instinctive trait for you but credit for you for forcing yourself. It will come lad!

Naughts.... what junior coach taught you to kick like that??????? He should be shot!

Weightman, reaps reward for energy and effort.... should be a poster boy for red bull!

Go dogs!!

Too kind on Ugle-Hagan and not kind enough on Wallis. Otherwise, spot on.

Ill bite on Scott - he had 5 pressure acts and 0 score involvements, according to the statisticians, which is the 4th lowest bulldog for pressure acts and the equal bottom for score involvements (zaine cordy was the worst in both stats, but of course he was off in the first quarter)

By contrast Vander was 11 and 7.

Stats kill the enjoyment of footy.

Ed Richards is such a hard player to get a read on. He’s done a complete 180 to what he used to be. He’s now excellent at defending and so so with ball in hand.

He used to over-think it, imo. Now he takes the game on more.
