Mirkov nowhere near fit enough to run out an AFL game so can understand why we went TDK with Silvagni back-up.

That said knowing now how poor TDK was it might have been worth considering the TDK / Mirkov double team.
Mirkov isn’t a realistic option and probably won’t be until late next season as he does not have the strength nor the stamina to make it to half time in a league game against an average ruckmen not least a beast like Witts.
The reality is due to our list imbalance we do not have enough talk backs so our other ruck cover option (Young) has to act as cover for key defence if one of Weitering as McDonald gets injured which is what has happened with Oscar getting injured.

Whose our ruck coach? Needs a giant kick on the backside. TdK real asset is his leap. Ffs why is he trying 2 outbody guys esp one like Witts. Jump the f over him. This is coaching 10.
Our ruck coach is one Matthew Kreuzer... some guy who played some football for a few years. Wouldn't know anything about ruck contests at all IMO. If TDK wants to be a top tier ruckman, he needs to put on 8-10kg of muscle so he can go head to head with the monsters like Witts. Centre bounces are like 25% of a rucks work during a match. The rest of it is at stoppages where you can't jump over your opposition.

Kreuz is trying to teach next generation rucking to our rucks... you know... not be a witches hat when the ball hits the deck. To hunt and tackle... monster the ball forward. He's had one year working with Pitto and TDK and both of them are starting to show signs of it starting to take.

Is there anyone in the twos that could replace Setterfield and O'Brien ? I am not sold on either of them but it seems there is no-one in waiting that can play the role. Any possibilities ?
If it’s like for like on the wings then the options would be Newnes, Cottrell, Philp or Carroll.
Carroll has Covid so I doubt he’ll debut after not playing the prior week.
Philp is looking good in the 2s but still needs to put in a couple dominant 4 quarter performances before he can get picked.
Both Newnes and Cottrell have been very good in the 2s but we know they have deficiencies so they are marginal improvements at best.
Another option requires a bigger structural change like Walsh or Cerra and Doc going to the wings with Doc’s spot in defence taken by Stocker and Dow coming into the midfield rotation for either Walsh or Cerra.
Given they have both been ok up until this week I do think Setters and LoB will get a couple more weeks to prove themselves.

I missed seeing Durdin work his way down on to our last line of defence to help out. The guy just wants to work hard for the team.

How is everyone feeling the morning after?

Cherishing the memories of the last month, end of the party notwithstanding, or suffering with a pounding headache, a case of the runs, and a mouth that tastes like a cat shit in it?

I'm now more interested in what's going to come of the media coverage of the Chol issue.

I watched the replay and understand why people were laughing at my response to it as the part that had the live crowd fuming wasn't shown on the live feed (happened after the feed cut out from he and Docherty).

However, with Chol posting the racial abuse he received in the aftermath surely they have to cover the entirety of the incident.

As for the result, I cannot remember a year when a premiership contender wasn't put away by a bog average team. Hell, the Swans and Saints smashed us in 95 and they finished 12 and 14 in a 16 team comp.

We're obviously not at that stage yet. However, I think it's fair to say with the second half melt downs against Hawks and the Dogs (to a degree) it's not surprising that we had an off game.

Let's not put more significance in it than what it was. More concerning is Cripps injury and how it impacts the rest of the midfield.

We can handle a loss. It can build character. Now let's see us turn a corner next week with it.

Agree with others on Martin.

Last night he was definitely trying...no question in my mind on that aspect but he just isn’t effective enough on a consistent basis.

He presented at a lot of contests last night and I can’t recall him winning many if any.

He wasn’t the only one but we need martin (and a few others) to step up and make a difference at times when others like Cerra Kennedy etc have a quiet game.

Mr Almost...almost marks, almost tackles, almost goals ...rarely completes a play...I can't recall his last good game

Set shot goal kicking lacks conviction.
Always seems to slide it to the right as opposed to kicking through it hard and straight.
Been teased enough … failing the September test.

Feels like 2012 lite. Just routine for Carlton to put in a putrid effort after any run of good form. Won't try to problem solve a game like this and hopefully Carlton pull up for next week.
But were we actually in form. We could easily be 1-3.

Even the Tigers game, it took a last qtr momentum swing to win it.

Go watch the 2nd half of Dogs game.
Last 3 qtrs of Hawks game.

Both games we were beaten by a fwd flood.
Equally let opposition waltz out of their d50 with little pressure.

We won, sure, but it was the opposition coming home with a wet sail

Voss has been beaten in the coaches box 3 times in a row now by the same tactics.

Pressure is on the coaches to adapt and tweak our gameplan

When did this happen? I must've missed it.

Towards the end of the game.

He got McKay.

Owies remonstrated.

Then Doc had a smaller go. Almost a soothing, leader type go.

Camera cuts away but then it escalated.

The crowd around us went a bit bonkers. My partner was shocked that I remained mostly subdued and calm. She was more angry than I was and she doesn't care about footy (attended so I could go and support me). The video scoreboard showed it then panned to a couple of young lads laughing (not necessarily about that but that was what she viewed as the implication).

His CFC debut was his last outstanding game.

Had some good bits and pieces there but not a consistent 4 quarter performance.

That was a very ordinary game, continued their form from QTR time against the hawks. That's basically 7 very ordinary quarters of football in a row where we have been totally outplayed. Bit of a concern. Did we win one QTR yesterday? How many qtrs have we won all season?

I've been on this train for a while, but how does Martin continue to get a game? He does absolutely nothing week after week. He's barely sighted, drops easy marks when he does pop up and basically a passenger every week.

Fisher is very similar, gets his 15 touches but has very little impact on the game. Has been the same nothing player his whole career.

I've been disappointed with Cerra the last two weeks. Against the hawks everytime I saw the number 5 and his effort it reminded me of SPS. Last night was no better. Needs to lift

Not many could say they played ok yesterday. Saad clearly our best and doc was ok. The whole side seemed bereft of effort. Even weitering at times was lazy, going with the kick off the ground rather than picking it up and what was that disgusting kick coming out of the backline.

Sounds like stocker had a good game in the Magoos, although 30 kicks and a couple of handballs sounds like he was given the ball rather than getting the ball himself.

Dow needs to come in for Cripps. Dow doesn't need to get best on or even be in the best players, just needs to show signs and get better each week.

A few on here saying setters should be dropped, he wasnt great (no-one was) but he was far from our worst and playing his role, same with O'Brien.

Walsh was poor again. People can quote possessions but he is having zero impact in games, a long way from being a major factor in the game. Needs to get going.

We missed durdin today. Owies was quiet after a pretty damn good first half against the hawks.

Agree with this.

If they kick it direct and we can't stop the opposition.

Scores are way too easy.

We're working much harder for lower percentage reward.

When owies went to Chol he got rag dolled and jumper punched before Doch came in. Are you suggesting owies may have racially abused him and hence why he was a bit forceful on him?

Lot of negative feedback for Martin, I get it but let’s see if he responds next week ‘if’ he plays.

He is terrible, you can see why he played in the Magoos at the gold coast.

You forget he is in the team and then he pops up on the screen. Usually drops an easy mark and then disappears again. Apart from his first game for the club against the tigers he has barely done anything.

Annoys the shit out of me be is basically an automatic in each week. Teague let him get away with it. I was glad Voss used him as the sub at least (although I would have preferred he played VFL)

The real worry to me the last 2 weeks (after QTR time against he hawks) is we are completely losing structure going fwd. I'm not sure if it's the way the opposition are setting up and we are getting sucked in to being in the wrong spots.

But we get the ball and there is no-one in the forward half. We look up to find a target and then look sidewards.

I was at the hawks game and we continually had either no-one there or if we did they didn't lead. Just put there hand up (reminded me of the games I saw under Teague, fwds not moving)

They need to be continually moving and if they aren't used the open space up behind them for another player to lead into.
