Gutted for the kid. Hopefully he uses this time well and does a ton of endurance work to get him in shape for some midfield time in 2023.

Needs a lot of upper body work to get into the midfield at AFL level, obviously his upper body is gonna go backwards now with his arm out of action for many months.

Terribly disappointing, not his first long term injury either.

Ha ! Where have you heard this ?
Let me say, I was as surprised as you are.
I had the privilege of spending Sunday morning within the club. I spoke with many insiders.
Was there while several players, including Nathan and Grundy, we’re doing rehab.

You were too?
You’ll have to forgive us if we’re a little confused. 😉

Major points for optimism. Pinning hopes on 3 blokes who have never played AFL to be significant contributors in September within their first 10 games is pretty rosy thinking. But they might give us a bit more much needed depth.
Marlion Pickett did it. I have no worries about Johnson and Dean if they can stay fit and Carmicheal's stats are equal to if not better than Picketts. All 3 are mature aged, their not kids

He’ll be able to begin doing upper body work soon enough to strengthen his shoulder as part of his rehab anyway, so it’s not something I’m too worried about tbh. It’s not like he’s going to be barred from strengthening the area until he’s ok to play again.

Plus he is still very young. Still 19 Basically the same age as Nick Daicos

If we can get Johnson, Dean and Carmicheal playing seniors for the last 6 games, I think we can do some serious damage in september

You’re expecting three completely untried and unproven players to make big difference in September?

Sounds like checkers is in his doubt. With a bye round coming up I doubt we risk him.
Is this some sort of new information, or are you going by the injury report that said he’ll be ok and had a big green ‘available’ next to his name on the injury list?

It was based off new comments on the site. Just feel when there’s byes after games clubs err on side of caution. Will wait and see

Unless we get hit by an injury crisis, I doubt any of them will debut this year. The side is humming at the moment. Particularly the backline.

Defender Charlie Dean is set to return from injury and play VFL on Saturday.

The 20-year-old has been battling a foot issue for most of the season and will pull on the black and white for the first time against Brisbane at the AIA Centre.

High-flyer Ash Johnson made a positive return on limited minutes against Casey and is available for selection this weekend.

Jack Madgen will need to tick a few boxes during training across the week as he makes a come back from a shoulder injury and is likely to play VFL on Saturday.

Ruckman Brodie Grundy has begun a straight line running program and continues to develop his strength in the gym after a PCL injury. A return to play is on the cards for round 18.

Tom Wilson had positive discussions with a specialist after back surgery and has started low level conditioning. He will start a gym program in the next fortnight.

Nathan Kreuger and Reef McInnes are in the early stages of shoulder surgery rehabilitation and are aiming to be fully fit for the start of pre-season.

Soft beggy. Strap it up you'll be right lol

Dean - who has been battling a foot issue for most of the year - played his first game for the club and clocked up 95 minutes of game time.

Madgen's shoulder came under pressure and he pulled up well.

Aiden Begg picked up a thumb injury in the VFL match but played out the game.

Scans showed a tiny crack in his thumb which will not require surgery and looks like a 2-3 week injury.

Brodie Grundy (knee) has progressed from straight line running to agility/change direction and is 'ticking a lot of boxes' in the gym.

At this stage he's still expected to return in round 18.

Reef McInnes (shoulder) is wearing a sling post-shoulder surgery and is in the early stages of his rehab.

Tom Wilson (back) is seeing some progress with his swimming, bike work and body weight exercises, while Nathan Kreuger has full movement in his shoulder and is progressing with pulling work.

He's running and finding real targets around his speed and cardio work.

Darcy Moore went down clutching his knee late in the final term on Saturday night and an initial assessment has ruled out ligament damage.

Initial scans were positive and he was cleared of any major injury - his ACL, PCL and MCL are all completely fine.

He will be assessed at the backend of the week and our high performance team is hopeful he will be available to play this weekend.

While he completed pool work and gym on Monday, he will not train on Tuesday but will hopefully be on the track come Thursday.

Jeremy Howe has recovered from a gastro intestinal illness.

He completed a course of antibiotics and has been cleared by doctors to resume training. He is expected to be available for selection this week.

While he finished his game time with a goal late in Sunday's VFL match, Harvey Harrison left the field before the siren with tightness in his hamstring.

It is looking like a minor strain, about 3-4 weeks on the sidelines.

Charlie Dean could mount a convincing case for worst luck on our list at the moment - he landed awkwardly on his ankle and suffered ligament damage to the same foot he injured earlier in the season.

Scans showed a crack in his little toe.

He was up and running after his rehab but unfortunately the bone wasn't healed enough to handle that type of impact.

He will be managed conservatively and a surgeon will review his return date but it looks to be a 6-8 week injury.

Aiden Begg (thumb) is keeping the thumb locked in a brace and he has completed a lot of rehab work.

He's doing some high intensity running with Brodie, specific to the ruck position.

Will be out of the brace next week and likely available.

Brodie Grundy (knee) is completing more functional training this week, running the patterns he would in a game and including some directional movement.

On our long-term injury list, Reef McInnes (shoulder), Tom Wilson (back), Nathan Kreuger (shoulder) are biking, swimming and hitting the gym.

All looking positive for season 2023 and expected to be back at full training by day one of pre-season in November.
