Roberts and Gardner are polar opposites - Fletch an elite kick, but slow as a wet week and 10kg too light for his style of play at AFL level.
Gardner disposal is shaky and can occasionally be a half-step behind his opponent to react but he's super quick and a very good spoiler.

Gardner is a Danial Cross-like trainer so I still expect he will improve with time.
Gardner ain’t super quick.

Agree they’re different players, but Fletcher is clearly better if I was forced to pick one.

I quite liked him but I think we're rewriting history a little about Roberts' ability. He played some decent games but really wasn't on much of a different level for almost all of his career to what Gardner is. Gardner is definitely in a slump right now but there's a reason why Roberts played so much VFL.
Fletcher no world beater for sure, but showed a lot more than Gardner.

He’s a better footballer.

If Fletcher was even close to Gardner he'd still be in an AFL list

Not true, there’s always plenty of footballers that aren’t on AFL lists better than those that are.

With those fringe types it’s mostly timing and what role a club wants to invest in.

Doesn mean one player is better than the other.

Lobb is a good player and he would definitely improve our side for next season.

Not convinced that’s where we should be spending our salary cap and draft capital though.

Depends how much cap we have free and the price. Based on the word coming out we’re very openly hunting KPDs too so it’s unlikely it’s a one or the other situation.

He’d definitely make our forward line more threatening and as insurance for Bruce and English he’s a massive upgrade on what we have.

I don't get the Lobb interest. He's a spud who plays 2 good games a year. We've got Darcy coming through who could be better.

We need to be targeting guys from the best team with the most salary cap pressure. This is Melbourne. Should be looking at Tom Sparrow if he's available. I reckon this guy's about to explode and would be a good Dunkley replacement.

He played one of them today 5 goals 13 disposals 11 hitouts

Then again he’s a spud

Anthony Scott was a bees dick away from playing in a grand final last year so whilst I generally agree with what Robbo is saying, it's not exactly black and white is it?

He doesn’t mention Scott ? But Gowers and McComb are / we’re not good enough

Lobb is 30 in Feb. Fine to target him, and he probably earns ok money in 2023-24… but that’s about it. Also should not cost too much in terms of trade capital. What do you trade for a 30 year old? Definitely NOT a first rounder…

We really need to find a #1 KPD to target though. That is what we are missing terribly!

Why not look at McGovern? He’s 31 in April and would cost very little. I’m sure we could even agree Eagles to pay part salary as it would free them up somewhat.

Low risk, but very high reward if he recaptures his form.

Lastly - if Dunkley goes then it’s likely a 1st round plus something. Gives us a really strong draft hand to finally target a gun KPD prospect (along with another best available, etc).

Season is done so time to get wheels in motion Sammy P…

Sorry for clogging up the thread lol. If dunks does nominate Port.. would Dante Visentini fit a need?

A lot of posters were keen last year.

Fits the profile and good attributes, but is years away and we need someone sooner. Lobb fills a need of being a KPF/2nd ruck, which will allow English to stay as #1 ruck. Other gettable targets we’d have to pay for in terms of more pure rucks, I can’t see much more out of Flynn from GWS or Meek from Freo. Meek would likely go somewhere if they get Jackson, Melbourne could even ask for him in return as part of the deal. Aside from that, it’s offering something up to shake someone loose.

McGovern is on over $1mil, may not cost too much terms of picks for what you get, but let’s be real, he’s not taking a 50% pay cut and West Coast aren’t going to want to pay much for someone that wouldn’t be playing for them any more. Unless they need to pay up to meet minimum cap, although that’s not too likely

Would it be worth getting Liam Jones as a cost free option? Obviously plays FB okay and would be desperate to play again.
Age might mean 1-2 years only

I’d say Gardner is quick. I’ve rarely seen him genuinely burnt on a lead unless there’s body contact involved.

Might be quick running but slow as treacle in making decisions or executing them.
Did you the second qtr square scramble ball up which resulted the mcinerney goal review ?
