Crameri couldnt recover from his ASADA invoked holiday either, Bruce has only just started playing again, has been training with the team for a few months and is still nowhere near match fit. Im suspect about hyping a player that's been out of it for that long from the top level.
Neither Bruce nor Crameri were able to play football in Queensland to a high level over their year off.

Thing is Carlton chose to delist jones when they had the option to keep him on the inactive list, just as west coast did with darling and saints did with one of their afl girls.
Should not be entitled to any compensation.
Saints would have more of a case with mcartin to be honest.
Not to mention Carlton have also benefited from not having to fork out for his salary this year, and gained access to the SSP/mid-season draft from his absence where they took Durdin. Him not playing has been a net loss for them across this season but they've had some level of gain from it.

Maybe the AFL can grant them a late pick if they're willing to hand back the $400k+ salary cap space and forgoe their rights to Durdin?

Not just for the Jones situation but in general I hate the idea of FA being a non-zero sum game due to compensation, given all 16 clubs not involved in the transaction are punished as a result of it occuring. Any compo pick shouldn't just be pulled out of thin air.

We're rolling out Zaine Cordy against one of Hawkins or Cameron this weekend because of how thin our KPD stocks are.

This is a free shot. Doesn't matter if it doesn't pay off.

Rather a crack at getting Jones back up to speed for a few years than drafting another short 1 paced midfielder from Footscray.

Edit: Would have preferred a 2 year deal at most (if the 3 years is true). Club clearly wanted to get it done.

Allen Jakovich!

Nice bit of business with Jones. My assumption is the media have overcooked it running with 3 years, 2+ trigger seems more likely. Given there was competition for him I don’t think that’s unreasonable.

Any compensation Carlton may or may not get is irrelevant to us, will come from the AFL. I personally don’t think they should get any as they chose to de-list rather make inactive but only impact to us would be later picks sliding back one spot

I'm fine with Jones, along as we bring in someone else as well and not just rely on the draft.

Cody Brand seems like a good option from Essenlol.
Given we are in a win now mode for the last of the 2016 boys, very happy to get someone of Jones ability, and yes seeing the drop off from 2021 Keathy to 2022 Keathy, Id be very happy to trade our 1st or any 1st we get if Dunks bolts on an intercepting KPD.
Gardner and Cordy do not give me that winning feeling as KPD

Jones is a no brainer IMO

Cheap KPD who has the skill set we require. Worst case scenario is he takes up a list spot.

Rather have Jones taking up a list spot that a Mcomb or even Hannan. Prepared to live with a KPD on a list spot rather than another plodder.

Hope he does choose to come back to the kennel

He left end of 2014. So wouldn't have played under bevo (though bevo was just installed as coach so not sure if he gave Jones his marching orders?).

Would have played with a few of the older crew like Bont.

Clearly still good blood between everyone which is nice.

He had made up his mind he was going prior to Bev coming and he wasn't going to reconsider even with a new coach

Full circle the pick we got for Jones was used on Caleb Daniel.

McCartney got sacked during trade week after Griffen requested a trade. Bevo probably wasn't even interviewed till after trade week and was only installed as coach just before the draft.

"As well as his defensive capabilities, Liam Jones has the widest mouth opening of any AFL players in the 21st century, a fact his potential new coach Luke Beveridge believes will set him apart from other 2023 recruits"

There is zero connection between Sam Durdin/Will Hayes and Liam Jones.

The AFL knocked back Carlton's request for an extra pick at the end of the 2021 draft as Jones had "retired" after the final list lodgment.

The mid season draft selections this year were cover for Oscar McDonald (LTI) and a list spot that we already had open following the November rookie draft.

He hasn't been delisted.

He "retired" after the final list lodgment which means he still occupies a list spot.
