Leaving aside that I'll struggle to support Liam for several reasons I genuinely think he'll be a whipping boy around here by about round ten next year.

His disposal was always suspect and he has the ground ball ability of Ryan Gardner. Add to that he is 32 and coming off a year away from top level football. I hope we have other irons in the fire.

There is zero connection between Sam Durdin/Will Hayes and Liam Jones.

The AFL knocked back Carlton's request for an extra pick at the end of the 2021 draft as Jones had "retired" after the final list lodgment.

The mid season draft selections this year were cover for Oscar McDonald (LTI) and a list spot that we already had open following the November rookie draft.
I stand corrected then. Point remains regarding the salary cap though, in that his half million dollar contract (or whatever it was) wasn't paid so should you get that benefit alongside a 3rd round pick, or should not paying his salary forego any rights to compensation?

Either way I'm not concerned given Carlton's compo is not a Bulldogs related issue, more a general AFL issue, but its an interesting case and in my opinion there shouldn't be any compensation given. No doubt a Carlton supporter will feel differently.

McCartney got sacked during trade week after Griffen requested a trade. Bevo probably wasn't even interviewed till after trade week and was only installed as coach just before the draft.
We should really have thanked Griffen, instead of booing him. He was the catalyst for all the good things that happened subsequently. Have a think about the alternative universe in which Griffen stays, and Macca stays…

Will be interested to see what Jones is being paid.
Apparently his Carlton contract for this year was about $400k base with incentives up to about $500k. Will be less than that. At a guess base of $300k-ish

Maybe not incredible, but noteworthy, nonetheless.
I really like Lewy, a slowly developing kpd.
He just wanted to play footy, and bevo just didn't give him a chance.
1st year away from the doggies he's a KPD, elite in 2 categories and above average in 2 others, plus the highest % mark on the ground.

That one-on-one stat kills me.

You realise that one-on-one stat is literally just the total number of one-on-one contests. Percentage-wise Young loses more one-on-one contests than Gardner...

Freo might be just the stupidest list management team in the AFL if the move on Lobb for Jackson.

Making their forward line worse is the last thing they need to do. They going to camp Darcy inside forward 50 for half the game just so that Jackson gets a run in his preferred position. Insane.

They should be withdrawing from having any piece of that trade as early as tonight.

A decent defender but would still struggle in our system even if he played every week. And that’s on our system, not Lewy.

Carlton will be entitled to a draft pick as compensation for losing Liam Jones, reports The Age’s Jake Niall.

It’s understood that given Jones spent eight years with Carlton, the 31-year-old will now be deemed a free agent, leading to the Blues receiving compensation if he joins a new club after this season.

SEN’s Sam Edmund reported earlier on Friday Jones had chosen the Western Bulldog as his preferred destination for the 2023 season and will sign on a three-year deal.

Depending on the size of the contract, the Blues will be granted a pick in this year’s draft.

However, it’s unlikely Carlton will be given a high draft pick based on Jones’ age.

The ruling is set to pave the way for Jones to join the club of his choice in the upcoming trade period.

Jones retired in 2021 but changes to the vaccination requirements across both AFL and AFLW have allowed the intercepting defender to return to the fold.
