I think Moose has misinterpreted that second guy. I think he was backing Moose up that his version doesn't sell papers like the clickbait does.
that's how I read it. I think he was being sarcastic towards Reid...but what do I know.

Maybe Moose was just pissed off with all the innuendo. I am, that I do know

Acres wasn't exactly a surgeon. 100 gamer. Good tank. I feel our other options are possibly a bit young or require a bit more time for one reason or another.
O'Driscoll on one wing Aish on the other. It is not ideal because NOD is still in development mode and Aish has been used well in other areas, but it is less of a backwards step than expecting Johnson, Erasmus, Henry or Chapman (or Jackson) to magically become AFL standard wingers from next season.

I like Logue but no one is giving up pick 11 for him, people forget he’s been dropped twice this year, and isn’t in JL best back 7….
That doesn't diminish his value as a KPD. He's proven shutting down elite KPFs. That is what his value is. He's not in our back 7 because we have two KPDs that fit our game plan better.
Logue is a walk up start on quite a few teams.

I'm guessing SOS doesn't like us.

Jackson, former pick 3, average stats but a good quarter in a grand final, worth a pick around where he was drafted plus something

Taranto, former pick 2, far better stats and performance in his role, also played well in a GF (loss), worth pick 12

Never mind Cerra last year where he was steadfast that 6(8) would be enough.

Still mad at Freo drafting young and serong when he wanted one

Open to it for a player trade if possible, but, is he any good?

Was keen on him in his draft year (just like Brodie), he‘s great runner with a decent kick, knows how to find the footy on the outside but needs in and under midfielders to feed him. Would compare him to a Gaff or Seedsman type winger. Reckon he could flurrish with our young group but wouldn’t want us paying much.

If Freo have any doubts over their wing stocks they should consider Tom Phillips.
Tom Phillips is a disposal hack. Longmuir would know this and 0% chance he ends up with Freo.

To me we have been planning for this. Rightly or wrongly. I think earlier in the year (after pre-season games and first few rounds) Acres was displaying the same average form from the previous two contract years. I remember this board clearly after the Adelaide and St Kilda games. Posters were saying Blacres out and never back etc.

This is why we made a low ball offer. He also must have been close being dropped like he was a couple of times in 2021.

Anyway he pulled his finger out and had a good season - disrupted by Hamstring tear.

Freo have been developing other options through the Wing throughout the year incl. Henry, Worner, NOD and Hughes.

Last season Henry played forward, Hughes backline, NOD (predominantly) backline and Worner new to the club. Henry whilst terrible last weekend (there are reports he had tonsillitis) but had been developing nicely. Hughes making pretty good fist of the first time playing Wing, NOD exceeded expectation to the point he is now a first choice winger and Worner. Worner’s development has been very positive when you compare to the start of year. To be fair he arrived last Feb (after having to serve some quarantine) and only had a couple of weeks training before stepping straight to the Peel side. When you consider the improvement from NOD (playing mostly HBF) from 2021 to 2022 - all will be options at different times. Also very strong rumours we will bring Jeremy Sharp to the club who had some decent disposal games later in the year (incl. 20 disposals ans 2 goals against the Eagles).

My point. Freo didn’t have an issue seeing Acres go. Also I don’t begrudge Young and Acres looking elsewhere because at the end of the day he could see the writing on the wall and needs to maximise his next contract. I also understand his partner is from Vic. So opened up opportunities for Acres to get a new contract. Freo might have upped their contract but the damage done.

Comments from Garlick indicating they will contract everyone they want to - is also a bit of a kick in the gut for Acres.

I don’t have a massive problem with this by the way it is business. Acres and Tucker 100% gone. Acres to Carlton. Tucker likely North (but Wasendon also keen).

Logue is one the club wants to retain. Young is a pain playing this and Lobb out in the media.

I’m hopeful that we retain Logue and Lobb will be traded. I feel Logue can play medium key back, first in line for KPD (behind Pearce/Cox) and can also swing forward as needed. I’d line him up in the back pocket for majority of games.

I also feel we will bring a forward to the club. Whether that is Corbett (May go to Melbourne), or someone like Jake Riccardi I don’t know. The trade capital from Meek can be used to bring in a forward. The trade capital from Lobb used along with pick 13 to bring in Lobb.

If Jackson chooses Eagles I’m not too worried. I would keep Meek and run with two rucks more often. Both need big pre-seasons to continue to develop their running capacity and marking ability. If Logue goes we may well actually hold Lobb to contract but that isn’t ideal.

I'm in a bit of mourning here.
I recall last year's Members Meeting when only Lobb stood out as a would-be defector and optimism ran high about our strong-knit team overall. Then at the Members Forum in July Garlick, Bell et al exuded united forward momentum about our players, club and prospects. It felt good.
Now so many potential departures.
Remind myself that "the only constant is change" but it's no consolation at the moment.
It does appear to be money though.

The reality is that there will always be clubs like Carlton and Norf that will offer absurd amounts to B graders, and you can't really blame the player for taking a 2nd look. The player knows he's a B grader and it could be the only opportunity to set himself up for life.

Where does aish start in the ground? He's always named in defence on the team lineup but does he actually ever start there?

Tom Phillips is a great case study for why we should be happy Freo sticks to its guns and refuses to overpay for guys like Acres and Logue.

Played wing at Collingwood and made a sold start to his career.

Built up some momentum: 6th in B&F in 2018; 7th in B&F in 2019; played in the 18 GF.

Even made the 22under22 team (for what that is worth).

So contract time comes around and he earns a big fat deal, over 500k a year. He's Best 22! We can't go deep without experience and he played an important role in our GF team! Gut runner-- you need them in September!

But even though he was B22, he was just another solid footballer playing a role. Not worth an above average salary.

Nek minnut Daicos shows he's better on the wing, Phillips gets pushed out and Collingwood are paying 500k for a so-so small forward.

The salary cap squeeze is on (because of overspending on guys like Phillips) and he gets salary dumped to the Hawks for a 4th rounder. An easy way to make some much needed space.

2 years later he's delisted by the Hawks.

We don't want to overpay "solid" footballers who are B22 today but likely to be superseded by new talent
Fantastic example of why people need to chill on those two (particularly Acres).

That doesn't diminish his value as a KPD. He's proven shutting down elite KPFs. That is what his value is. He's not in our back 7 because we have two KPDs that fit our game plan better.

100% it does, north go well he’s playing forward because he’s not in your best 7 defenders hes out of contacted, we aren’t giving you pick 11 for him
