I immediately assumed it would in different states each year, i'm not sure why people think it will be locked to state?

It sounds fun if it was a rotating schedule (with Vic last in the order).

AFL.com.au said:
COLLINGWOOD has delisted both Callum and Tyler Brown, sons of former captain Gavin Brown, among a total of four players let go on Tuesday.

Callum was taken as a father-son selection in the 2016 draft at pick 35, while Tyler was selected with pick 50 the following year, also under the father-son system.

WTF

Every state has home ground advantage one way or another

If it was a showdown round (or Syd/GWS, derby, Bris/GC) i assume, it would work to eliminate the home ground advantage. They'd just have to play some of the other same state games at a neutral venue, which i don't know how that would go.

Is this instead of the pre-finals bye?

I gather that would stay, they will take one of the weeks set aside for trial games and insert it into the early part of the season.

There is a sense that the pre-season matches are meaningless other than as a tune-up for games played for premiership points and that an extra round that adds to the game’s coffers as it emerges from COVID-19 is worth considering, with McLachlan saying the round would be held during school holidays in the first quarter of the season.

Apparently "multiple states" are vying to host such a round, but SA and WA only have one suitable stadium, so they're out, realistically.

Did we really need more evidence the AFL makes it up as they go along?

What do you mean make it up as they go along?

You don't think this extra round that can only be watched on TV for the majority of viewers wasn't part of the negotiations on the TV deal?

Yes, move away probably the biggest revenue home games for the non-Victorian sides. That will work out well, for a neutral venue in Victoria. That would work brilliantly.

It'll be in Victoria and only Victoria, because only suburban grounds in Melbourne will be considered "up to standard".

Remember this is the organisation that said Football Park needed to be upgraded for the AFL, while the Melbourne sides were still playing at their local shitholes.

I didn’t think of that!
