Believe it or not a great discussion on TR. SoS saying that contracts are all structured differently, some have clauses that say they get an increase comparable to any TPP increase or a % of it.

So if the TPP increases by 10% a player may go from 800k to 880k without changing contracts.
So for example Bowes has 850k for the next two years backended. If he has a clause that his salary rises commensurate with the TPP (as the sweetener to backend the contract),and the TPP rises by 10% his 850k goes to 935k.
This would need to be taken into account by other clubs in that above case, plus any current contracts with those type of clauses.

Throw in the North, Brisbane and Essendon coach issues and this trade period is gunna be wild.

Fuark I hope the Grundy talk is just Bigfooty fluff.

Surely we can’t * up that badly.

If Collingwood pay a big portion of his salary, then I don't see the issue with discussing it.

Would be a great backup, we have limited options if Marshall goes down.

Melbourne want him, so it doesn't look as silly an idea as you think.

We just signed Marshall to a pretty significant deal.
Tying up a huge portion of your cap to two players who play the least flexible role on the ground screams stupidity.
Melbourne want him because he’s an upgrade on Jackson and structurally they think it works.
Time will tell, but I think they’re stupid for not addressing the holes in their list forward of centre.

Rhys Stanley, Tom Hickey, Darcy Cameron and Oscar McInerney were the ruckman for the prelims lol

Calm down

We wouldn't be bringing him in as a backup.

Even if Collingwood pay 300k your still looking at a 700k contract.

Im not totally across the Bowes thing... is there actually a chance we get him and pick 7 for ben long and a second? or is that just typical trade thread dreamin... I feel gullible for even asking.

What's the realistic take on this?

No one knows because this is the first year salary dump trades have been specifically allowed by the AFL, so there's not really much out there to compare it with

If it sounds to good to be true it probably is.

GCS are over the cap by 2 million for 2023 before even bringing in Long

We need to deal with GC over Long

We have the SC and we want another pick in the top ten.

So the talk has been we should be all over it with GC with trades thrown about with best case scenario being

Long for

Bowes and pick 7 if we take the full salary.

has been talk he only wants to go to Geelong but they are pretty stretched with cap and have others wanting to get there.

I am confused by it as well particularly as the discussion seems to be that the reason Long wants to go to the Suns is principally big bucks.
Surely if their Salary cap is bursting at the seams they would not contemplate bringing someone in on any more than a basic wage.
You don't give up a top 10 pick to save a couple of hundred K on your salary cap.

Melbourne are bringing him in as a backup, Gawn isn't retiring.

When I look at our list next year after all the retirements, I can't even fathom how we are even close to the salary cap.

I thought Gags was meant to come in and fix our overpaid and underdelivering list. Looks like he has created exactly what he took over.

Sounds like Geelong are getting him.

If the Bowes thing is as desribed it sounds like a great opportunity and I'd be OK with the investment if it means getting a pick on top.

Would much rather throw the money at that trade than at Grundy, that idea doesn't excite me at all.

No they aren't

They are bringing him in to play along Gawn, just like they did with Gawn/Jackson
