I'd be more considering a decent ruckman to back up Marshall. It's pretty much the most important position on the ground, every team in the last 10 years who have gone on to win the premiership has had an A-grade ruck.

It's no secret we were at our best last year was when Ryder was playing and in good condition. His incorrect suspension and his injury stalled our season.

If Marshall goes down and we have no backup, or if he is forced to play underdone... then we may as well write the season off.

I'd have a very hard and long look at Brodie Grundy.

Im not totally across the Bowes thing... is there actually a chance we get him and pick 7 for ben long and a second ? or is that just typical trade thread dreamin... I feel gullible for even asking.

What's the realistic take on this?
The opportunity to effectively buy a top 10 pick will be hot property, and as with all hot property it will not land at StKilda.

I am confused by it as well particularly as the discussion seems to be that the reason Long wants to go to the Suns is principally big bucks.
Surely if their Salary cap is bursting at the seams they would not contemplate bringing someone in on any more than a basic wage.
You don't give up a top 10 pick to save a couple of hundred K on your salary cap.

Maybe something about the structure of the contracts, I guess?

TR saying GCS is 2 million plus already over the SC for 2023

If that’s true, and Bowes nominates Saints (and only Saints), then pick 7 with very little going back is all the Suns can expect if the trade is done in isolation.

That is massive mismanagement of the salary cap.

Agreed. That’s what happens when you’re putting out spots fires with cash to keep players. Same situation with GWS. It has an end date.

A big NO for Grundy from me. We desperately need a part time ruckman who can play as the 2nd tall forward and Grundy nor is Marshall that.

Surely we can find a player on the out skirts of a side without getting tied to a 5 year contract.
Esava?

That should get JDG over the line

Would rather Bowes + #7 over Degoey personally, but getting both while losing Hill I'd be happy with. Probably means we can't take any free agents for 2 years until Bowes is on a reasonable contract, but we should be hitting the draft anyway so that's a bit of a non-issue.

Brad Hill staying or going depends entirely on the success of Clarksons investigation.
Which will take weeks if not months and trade week starts next Monday…
