The middle and top age brackets of our list are going to drop off a cliff in the next couple of years, so picking up a Free Agent like Hunt (and even Narkle) isn't a bad idea while we bring in youth via the draft.

With the loss of Rioli and delisting of Nelson, we currently only have 5 (4) players in the 26-29 bracket - Yeo (28), Kelly (28), Sheed (27), Barrass (26) & Langdon (26). Not a good position to be in, considering the potential retirements/de-listings coming...

Potential 2023/2024 Retirees:
Hurn (35), Naitanui (32), Shuey (32), Redden (31), McGovern (30), Cripps (30), Darling (30) & Gaff (30)

(To be clear, I'm not saying that all of these players should retire, simply that it is in the realm of possibility due to their contract status and/or age.)

Potential 2022/2023/2024 De-listings:
Langdon (26), Clark (25), SPS (24), Rotham (24), Waterman (24), Witherden (24), Jones (24), Naish (23), West (23) & Petrucelle (23)

Some of the above players will 'make it', but to date I don't think any of them have shown enough for us to get excited over. Potentially looking at an extremely young and inexperienced list in 2024, if we don't do something now...

28+: Yeo, Kelly, Sheed, Barrass
25-27: Ryan, Duggan, Allen, Cole

Grand Final teams as a comparison...

Geelong
28+: Stewart, Tuohy, Bews, Blicavs, Duncan, Cameron, Smith, Hawkins, Rohan, Stanley, Dangerfield, Guthrie, Selwood
25-27: Kolodjashnij, O'Connor, Atkins

Sydney
28+: Lloyd, Rampe, Fox, Parker, Reid, Franklin, Hickey
25-27: McCartin, Heeney, Papley, Clarke, Mills

Unless I'm mistaken, we currently have the list space to take 1-2 players via Free Agency/Trade and 3-4 players via the draft, once Rioli leaves for Port and we re-arrange our Rookies.

That's not factoring in that we still have yet to sign contracts and will likely still delist some of Witherden, Winder, Trew, West & Naish. Plenty of list space and since we aren't giving up any picks...go for it I say.

Hough and Chesser starting on the wings. Gaff either bench or WAFL

Barra reporting an unlucky demon heading to West Coast.
Do you think he means unlucky that he’s heading to us or unlucky that Melbourne didn’t offer him a contract.
🤔

Unlucky that he missed the flag.

Chesser hasn't even played a game yet and coming off a long injury I dont expect him to hold down a back 6 position immediately. Gov a year older and a bit injury prone so maybe he alternates with Bazzo. JJ is hit n miss still. I'd actually back Gaff ahead of some of the others, I see him coming back very fit barring injury and I'm not sure chessers body holds up all year.

I couldn’t believe how slimmed down Gov looked at the start of this year.
Yo would struggle to keep his fitness up with his injuries.when he did play; at hb we looked a different side.I realise we need mids but Yo and JJ at hb has great appeal.
NN never really had a chance to keep a consistent level of fitness either.
Should we be looking at our conditioning staff?
Simmo needs to take a leaf out of the Cats book and resist the urge to flog our veterans into the ground.

Seriously this time though……. Geelong has given Simmo the Green light to go again and this is how it will look

Cole Barrass Hurn
Hunt Gov Yeo
Gaff Kelly Hough
Ryan Darling Cadman
Cripps Allen Waterman

Nic Shuey Sheed

Duggin Culley Williams Bazzo
Doubt if Cadman gets a game. He hasn't played against growed ups yet. Langdon for HFF.

In saying that with hunt it waves goodbye to witho, and almost blocks us drafting a hbf

Id certainly hope there’s a ton of injuries because if Waterman is anywhere near best 22 next year we are truly stuffed.

NN never had a chance to stay fit ? At 32 and 10 kilos overweight no bloody wonder. Biggest pot gut I've ever seen on big nic. His looking like a rugby boy more and more.

Disagree with all of the above, I’d be playing Hunt rotating off a forward flank/wing. With Jones rebounding we can’t have 2 iffy field kicks out of the backline and Hunt is a decent kick on goal from memory.
