think it’s a backward step giving Ed a rookie spot…
his best is well truly behind him…doubt very much he will get a senior game. if the reason of keeping him is because of service offer him captaincy of the two’s.
Ed will take on a coaching role, might be in the 2s, might be in fitness but either way allowing him a list spot on minimum coin means that $ is not in the softcap, that is the logic.. and reality we are better off doing that with Ed than adding another Angus Schumacher or Finbar ODwyer.

I'm happy with Ed getting a rookie spot. I'm usually firmly on the side of not keeping "dead wood" around, but i think keeping Ed on the rookie list is a good move. He's the only 30 plus player on the list so it's not like we are clogging up with old guys and not having enough kids on the list. And being 30 plus means he has got a lot of good wisdom to provide to the other 41 players.

My feel is that Ed is a bit of a pied piper sort of bloke and good to have around with his upbeat nature. And a good pied piper type, not a Fev pied piper type. He'll train well, he'll be a great teammate, he'll lead well, and most likely he'll be an important reserves player.

Go well Rookie Ed.

Watching Austins trade wrap up I couldn't feel he was a little dissappinted at the very end when talking about Ed being rookied.

Maybe he wanted to take 1 more player he had his eyes on?

You notice the body language as well. Crossed his arms when talking about Lemmy firstly so indicates a bit of defensiveness ????

Agreed. Should have just made him captain of the VFL side and paid him an AFL wage to make Charlie happy.

His right eye dilated slightly..those micro expressions tell the tale.

Yes.

Currently- L’Ob, Cottrell, Boyd, Honey, Mirkov, S Durdin, Owies (Upgraded)
Cat B Akuie
Delisted - Parks, Oscar McDonald, Hayes

Currently: LOB, Boyd, Durdin, Mirkov, Cottrell.

Honey and Owies are both on the senior list.

Senior outs - Williamson, Newnes, Stocker, Setterfield, (Jones)
Senior Ins - Hollands, Binns, Lemmey, Cowan

Add...
Senior out - Ed Curnow
Senior in - Blake Acres, Matt Owies

Taking one player this afternoon (Ed) will give us a 36/6 split for 2023, with an opportunity to sign an additional Cat B rookie, though I haven't heard any murmurs of that.

Agreed - most supporters tend to ignore or undervalue the off-field intricacies. Even at training today, it was obvious how much of a leader Ed is and how much he adds to the group with his voice, standards, and persona.

Little anecdote: There were a group of younger boys who were cheering on Dom Akuei whenever he touched the ball - Ed walked over to the boys halfway through the session and said, 'Keep pumping him up'.

Tigers took Seth Campbell in the rookie draft.

Would have liked him on our list.

'23 is the year when guys like Philp, Cuners, Honey, dare I say Paddy D., need to show some real output, or else (you'd think).
Agree and you can ad a few others too, either unprepared and or lacking AFL intensity levels or just unable to get on the park, Gov, Marchy, Williams, and Martin, they'll all be scrutinized. There's a very healthy competition for a place in the starting line at last, which will bring out the best.
Trade/draft '23 will be busy for us.

Some decent names didn't get picked up in the rookie draft such as Szybkowski, Gilbey, D’Aloia, Hagan, Gilbee, Teal, Sadler and Phillips.

You've gotta feel for these kids - they'd be absolutely shattered after not achieving their dream - although these days there are still pathways to an AFL list via the SSP and mid-season drafts....

You've also gotta take a moment to pass a thought for the poor sods who have to go and play for * or the Aints.
