Gresham would already be on very good money..unlikely to leave looking for success, as we look to have a bright future!
That's the point I can't see they are going to keep him on 700k a year , what I think he is currently on.
His contract expires this year and I fully expect they will do the same as they did to Ross and Billings , cut the salary which they were not to happy about but they had no takers - Gresham will have to have a blinding good season to warrant what he is currently on.

Phillipou I imagine being a bit of a Bont type impact mid. Play predominantly forward and have runs on ball. Owens and Windhager need midfield time and Clark is getting time on ball too. We are definitely getting much tighter for spots. You can always find a spot for a top mid though. It would be a good problem to have not fitting all your good players in a midfield spot.
We need multiple mid rotation options..in the next couple of years we’ll add Hotton to the mix!
Ross & Crouch getting on a bit so opportunities will open up!

Gresham's best is much better and more consistent than Billings ever was. Injury was his only downfall. JB was one of our better players in a horrible list so paid like a star.
Is Gresham worth 700k+ , which some say Steele is on - Crouch is only on 600k and he has been one of our best the last 2yrs and hardly missed a game.

Agree, that’s why the club is keeping it’s powder dry regarding Gresham’s future

Probably, if he stays fit I'd pay it.

I'm more inclined toward developing our own now too. Watching Lobb at the Dogs looks like we dodged a bullet.

Caminiti looks like it's only a matter of a couple of preseasons and he could be a serious AFL player. I know I'll get hammered but he's not far off Membrey already. Membrey probably slightly better offensively but Hammer has him covered for his defensive efforts.

Trading is good if its a certain type of player you may not be able to get from the draft.
The trap to developing your own is assuming you can get any type of player you want from any draft , that was the mistake Pelchan etc made imo.

We want a Cyril type. = Ben Long. No wrong.
We want a standout full forward worthy of pick 1. There wasn't one in that draft , sorry Paddy.
We want to draft mids, = we got Clark and Coffield, and i still think it was the best we could get in that draft , even though Coffield will probably never be a mid.

Draft the best available and accept that its a grab bag.
( If you rate one player just slightly ahead of the next on your list , then its ok to go for needs , also ok to ignore the hbf( for example) if you have a glut of them, unless that hbf is outstanding. We could have used a small forward this year, but i agree with our drafters that the best small forwards were nowhere near our picks ).

Suppose it is the reason why they are weighting to see how he holds up , we don't need another croc on stupid money
If I was JB I’d be looking for a fresh start..career has stagnated through form and injury
Gresham has shown he has a far bigger impact in a game and is a few levels ahead of Billings - but who knows what Ross can get out of him.
The only problem with Gresham is his injuries and he has had a few bad injuries that can destroy careers , as was said earlier the club is most probably glad Gresham has put his contract talks on hold to see if he can get through a full season.
He will be a vital cog in our team if he can have a good season , his only problem atm is his disposal which seems to have gone backwards.

Gresham has the ability to be a pretty decent inside mid, and that's good because we need his type when Jack Steele or Brad Crouch get injured. But i far prefer his work close to goal, he can make something happen out of nothing there.

We currently have a lot of young players with huge upside , but one guy that is not being talked about because he is out injured is Coffield.

Looking at him now , it looks like a different guy - he has filled out and is big and stronger than before - when he comes back he to could be playing a different role - he could easily play a Wood type role if his endurance is any good.

If we were to look at Parish I would want us to entice him to move based on the culture and being part of a winning team rather than on the size of his paycheque. Like what Geelong has been able to do over the years.
I agree. Offer him peanuts. I'd be happy with that.

28 touches (18 kicks, 10 handballs), 9 marks, 3 tackles and 2 goals for Jaxon Binns late in the game for Carlscum 2s…

I know a few were keen on him for a second rounder last year, me included.

One to watch if he can’t get a gig in their midfield.

24 touches (17 kicks, 7 handballs), 13 marks and a tackle for Brodie Kemp too, who’s out of contract this year. 192cm 89kg former first rounder who’s being asked to play KPD, when he’s really a tall utility.

Good get for the Blues and I think he will find a spot in their side before too long

He's the type of outside run they could really use and looks to be versatile

31 touches (19 kicks 12 handballs), 5 tackles, 3 marks and 2.2 for Paddy Dow too.

I’m not all that high on him, but others might be.

Also out of contract this year.

The other two young midfielders that are doing well are playing for Collingwood VFL - Trent Bianco and Fin McRae. Both deserve AFL game time but are being held out by their older brigade. After bringing in Mitchell, plus Pendlebury & Sidebottom playing on Collingwood deserve to have those two lads poached.

Whatever happened to that guy. Up there with the biggest busts for a top 3 pick at this rate.

Don’t think a heap changed.

And at that point, Carlscum still had Cuck Murphy and Cripps, and had got Sam Walsh in.

Then you look at the most damning stat… here’s Dow (L) up against noted “ball butcher” Matt Crouch on the right… look at the disposal efficiency…

At AFL level, he doesn’t get the ball, and when he does, he butchers it.
