Autopsy Round 6, 2023: Carlton v St.Kilda

Can hardly see billings coming back in. The only likely players he can dislodge is Byrnes, Patton & possibly windy.

Not going to drop Cordy because of his size, ruck insurance and flexibility.

Can also hardly see Byrnes getting dropped. He’s working his ass off doing a job that will be making Ross’ population rod very firm.

Strong teams have to make tough calls at the selection table
rTB as much as confirmed that in presser- “no need to manage anyone”. And listening to Mason Wood radio interview effectively Ross has told players do the business on game today and the spot on the team is yours to keep…selection integrity!

People saying Billings won't come in, probably based on how he as played previously.
Well we see, Gres, Hill, Butler, Byrnes, and others like Crouch, Wood Stocker, playing tough and/or career best football

I trust RTB's system to get the best out of any player. If he could with Billings we have a match winner.

I didn't get to watch it live but I've just finished the replay.

Ryan Byrnes was ****ing fantastic today. That bloke worked his ass off and had so many important moments.

What a difference having an experienced tall forward makes. He only kicked one but Membrey was terrific.

Mitch Owens putting the #10 curse to bed. He's having a great season for us.

God I love beating Carlton.

We are more like the Turks than the Anzacs, the Turks have been defending their homeland for hundreds of years against the odds.

Ross Lyon is like Ataturk, the great Turkish general that inspired the Turkish army to fight against the Allies and any other invaders.

You'd have to say that we're now only 2, maybe 3 players off our best 22 now.

King comes in for Cordy when he's fit, easy peasy.

One of Coffield or Webster comes in for one of Paton or Stocker you would think, though as of now Stocker seems to be undroppable and could very easily be in the top 10 of our BNF voting.

And maybe, maybe, one of Billings, Windhager, or Caminiti come in for someone, but god knows who. Byrnes and Phillipou come to mind, but the former is more than doing his job, and the more games we can get in to Phillipou the closer we are to a flag.

If we can get to round 10 ish without any more serious injuries, then we're going to have to make some really tough calls. Bloody great position to be in though.
No chance I’m dropping stocker.

None. Zilch.

Point of difference back there.

All he needs is a little more self confidence and we'll have another winger who averages 20 touches and a goal a game. Always knows where the ball is going to be, just needs a tiny bit more composure but that'll come in time.

Yes agree, virtually every player on our list is playing better. Why would Billings not improve too?

Personally, I rate Billings higher than many on this forum.

Billings has always worked hard, and RTB loves hadworkers.

The only problem is who does he come in for?

And now Cornes is all over the media with his funkopop style head giving us praise. God I hate that Ben Shapiro wannabe s**t bird.
Kent just makes clickbait statements, like season over after a match sim v Melbourne, if we don't make finals getting Ross is a failure
He is like an Aldi Barrett.

Oh yeah for sure man. I freaking love the kid, think he'll be a 200 gamer, break his collarbone in the first quarter of a Grand Final and play out the game type player. And over the first 6 weeks, he has brought a toughness and a level of foot skills to our team that you could only dream of for a DFA.

But just for arguments sake, he doesn't have the exposed, long term form of a Coffield or a Webster, and as such is only ever 2 or 3 games away from being fringe 22. I don't think he'll have those 2 or 3 bad games though. Kid is immense.

Also, and just as an interesting side note, how good is our basically free back six? Nas cost us a top 10 pick, and Howard a late first/early second type, but apart from that Wilkie and Sinclair were Rookie draft picks, Stocker a DFA, and Battle we got as a bonus because of Hawthorn's hard-on for JOM. You love to see it!

Looking at the Supercoach scores for this game, Carlton had 6 players that scored tons but then they dropped off pretty sharply after that.

We only had two players that scored tons, Sinclair and Owens, but we had a lot of guys in the 70s, 80s and 90s, we had a much more even contribution.

That is how you win games and premierships with an even spread of talent and performance, not half a dozen doing the bulk and the rest passengers.

Yeah wonder what that means for Caminiti when his suspension ends? Does that mean he comes straight back in for someone?

Byrnes kicking has improved.

Probably helps that he is more settled in the team and not worried about losing his place.

Stocker is the same, he looks more settled now and he knows that Ross is backing him in.

Hard to drop any player in a winning team.

Wasn't easy taking a lot in from halfway up the third level surrounded by Carlton supporters so I'll have to watch the replay.

Moving to level 1 behind the saints cheer squad for the last quarter was an absolute blast though. Awesome vibes standing at the back.

5-1 and at least another week at the top sure makes heading to work tomorrow a little easier :D
When I was walking out this old Carlton nuffy was saying to his kid they are giving us a false sense of security. I looked at him and laughed and said good onya champ. He then told me we didn't beat them today and that they beat themselves. I told him even with the umps giving them oral pleasure we still beat them comfortably whilst laughing and walked off. Morons
