Autopsy Round 6, 2023: Carlton v St.Kilda

Collingwood - We saw it last week. Ross showed the most respect all year and probably went too defensive and didn't flick the switch to offense until too late. A big learning out of that game. Their level of fan support is a massive impact in a finals game if we played them. We have to be 4 goals better to win by under a goal

Melbourne - Gawn, Oliver and Grundy (only the last one because RoMa would struggle to beat both). Break even in the midfield and oh boy that's close for us.

Geelong - Cameron and Hawkins. With them a lot depends on how much it's on their terms. They love filing their cup but still not truly convinced how they go when it's not on their terms.

Sydney - Clash of the systems. They are quite a young side. I really love our list mix compared to theirs which is a bit of a mind f** given that 3 years ago our list mix was close to the worst in the AFL.

The rest - truly believe we have the rest of the comp covered not withstanding losing on any given day
Calm the **** down.

Just enjoy tonight.

With they way blokes like Philipou, Owens (mids) and Caminiti throw themselves at the aerial contest we are going to have a strong future. Philipou is an 18 year old kid and launches himself without fear. Once he starts marking a few more we’ll decimate some of these lower tier teams

Phillipou is only JUST 18 as well, one of the youngest out of that draft crop. His hands in close at stoppages, his set shot, his marking and general competitiveness says enough for me. I now just wonder where his best position is, a bit like Mitchi, could be mid, wing or a forward.

I'd remind anyone who says we've had it soft that we haven't played the Hawks, Roos or Eagles yet and have a percentage a bit under 150.

Conversely, the Cats only needed to feast on the Hawks and the Eagles and then rip an injury depleted Swans apart at the Cattery, to get the the media in a frenzy.

Neither have the Blues to be fair to two of them, even if they haven't played much and just been lucky;

Drew with Tiggies and really should have lost.
Caught a napping Cats who had NFI what they were doing.
Got pushed by North, and if it wasn't North, should have lost that as well.
Got a controversial finish v GWS to pinch that win as if umpiring interventions is not a thing with them and 20 behinds wasn't indicative of their forward half issues.
Got bent over and reamed by the Crows, no lube it was raw.

Then they played us, it was like what was there to fear? That they'd bullshit a win? Have a cry and the footy gods would go "ok you have more flags have this game too"? Meanwhile, we beat Bombers, we pushed Pies and almost drew it, that's sides 1,2 and 3, Blues have no dog in that fight.

Calm the * down.

Just enjoy tonight.
I put us at kind of 5th. When we are top of the ladder. I understand like anyone StKilda angst but I didn't think I was claiming a premiership. Geez. That was enjoying my night. Too many dark days to not enjoy a beautiful sunset walking out of Marvel.

Sheezal would be ahead atm, but Owens is gaining on him

As far as impact on the game, he's hard to go past
i cant get over that he competes in the ruck at times , he doesnt look big enough but he competes well .

Our current system allows us to absorb opposition punches even when our pressure and intensity around the contest are off a little.

It's very comforting because in the past we would give up 4-5 goals in no time before we even realized something was wrong.
Only seen it rattled and unable to adapt once this season and that was against the best team in the comp. Bodes well
