Geelong managed to obtain a high draft pick from Gold Coast last year for basically nothing, maybe they can get lucky again & on trade to us for TDK.

If he goes I hope it's to Sydney or Geelong. Both likely to have picks between 8-14 and are good to deal with so will give them up. I'm hoping it's not StKilda as SOS likely tries to screw us.

TDK will want to move to become the No.1 ruckman at a club. With Marshall at the Saints, I can’t see it happening. Likewise with the Bombers, with Draper their no.1 ruckman.

Cats seem the likely destination for me. A pick in the teens seems about spot on too.

As i said I took cooks comments as maxed , the media saying it that’s my vibe and feel of it and my last comment is will find out at the end of the year .. if we finish 7-12 and only draft young kids I think that’s as good as telling me our cap is tight .. I wouldn’t have a clue at the end of the day it’s a forum and 99% of people are just having an opinion , that’s mine .. I hope I’m wrong because this list ain’t winning a premiership
That's just confirmation bias.

The way I see TDK situation.

We need a forward/ruck. He's never proven he can be that. If he does then we need him. If not, we have a decent ruckman and he's expendable.

We need forwards. We don't really have players I would call good half forwards in our side. We have a spot in our side for a good quick inside mid. We badly need a forward/ruck and a few good half forward flankers.

TDK, if he can help is get what we need by either being traded or by becoming that player then great but at this stage, we are best to trade him IF that means we get what we need.
Owies is our best, most reliable half forward. That's where we're at.

He could be number 1 ruck at Sydney too. I expect Saints and Bombers would try turn him into a forward /ruck. Could see that being a disaster for them if they put him on big money.

Yeah our problem is we are in the virtue game and not the premiership game anymore. He's probably going to be a premiership player at season's end.

This is one of our problem with our list build, we have ignored certain personalities and now we have a side with no forward and no personality and go about it.

Exactly the sort of player we need.

Or we can continue to ignore these sort of personalities and just let them go and be good players at other clubs and win premierships there.

I don't care about indiscretions and stuff like that, good sides have these sort of players in them, we took on Charlie Curnow after mucking up, he slid because of it. Unfortunately this sort of stuff is common enough these days, he just got caught.

IMO it's a hole in our recruiting being so rigid on personalities. I know we had to create a culture but that's done now, we're ready to take in all types.
With all of the bullshit that Collingwood players have done over the last few years and with how good our players and administration have been in pushing forward community initiatives, who do you reckon is attracting more new young supporters?

Them or us?

Is that a trick question? Obviously them lol. Young supporters don't give a stuff about that stuff (at least not when deciding on a team to follow). They either go for their parents team or another one that wins and is exciting to watch.

Luke Jackson isn’t the number 1 for Freo…..

SOS loves TDK.
Let's see how this one plays out

Zac Fisher for Sam Flanders

Who says no ?
At this stage, I'd take Ned Flanders.

When you see the Geel list manager with Tom's brother and father watching our reserves game on the weekend, you have to think that's more than likely.
My question would be what can we get from Geel to make us better?
Every time we have dealt with them, they have walked away grinning. Off-loading the likes of Billie Smedts, Darcy Lang and then Fogarty. All three were okay talents at VFL level, but were never going to make the jump to AFL standard.

Think there is a great storyline playing out in the NBA at the moment...two disciplined, workmanlike squads putting their glamorous, superstar led opponents to the sword in the conference finals.

There has been growing discourse over recent years that a lot of the highly rated juniors coming through have NFI how to be good team players. The top rookies have huge profiles from early on, huge social followings, arses kissed through college (the one or two years they may play college ball), sponsors lining up, max contracts spoken about from day one. But few clues about playing a winning brand of basketball.

They you look at a squad like the Heat...they have a couple of a graders in Jimmy and Bam, but they're not flash a graders, they are workers, a fat old PG known for his defense first and foremost, four guys that went totally undrafted and had to forge a career from the bottom up, and a few retreads that have bounced around the league.

But they have this revered culture that seems to get the very best out of their guys. The organisation never seems to bottom out and never (well, rarely - it is the NBA) seems to get seduced by style over substance. They have a bell clear understanding of what they stand for. They dedicate one of only 15 roster spots to a 42 year old that never takes the floor...because he is the embodiment of their culture.

Modern Carlton has never had that. When the s**t hit the fan we pinned all our hops and dreams on a trio of #1 picks, and then pivoted to Judd, and then all eggs in the Malthouse basket, and then Cripps...and then, and then, and then. It's always magic beans.

Our club 'culture' is that of cop outs on and off the field. Always looking for the shortcut. The bail out. We never seem to serve beyond self interest...for any greater good. We're the ******* Knicks.

I suppose what I am getting around to is I don't care who comes or goes...until such time as we start to put the right foundation stones in place it really doesn't matter.
The real A Grader is Coach Spo.

Strange isn't it, that core Pies side finished 17th, 18 months ago

Players or system?
And they played finals the three years before that and the year after that. They played a GF in 2018 finishes 4th in 2019 and 8th in 2020. They finished a kick from a GF last year.

2021 was the aberration. They saw a slide coming and made the hard choices.

What hard choices have we made?

People keep talking about losing culture if we trade out so called leaders. What culture? When was the last time any of the heart guys were in a winning culture? They haven't been.

So, if we ship off a fan favourite and lose a bit of the losing culture, I won't mind a bit.

Whilst I think you make a good point...I don't think NBA is a good example. The vast majority of championships have been won with teams of 2 or 3 superstars.

It's really rare to see a squad like the '04 pistons win it all. NBA requires starpower moreso than AFL.

They had a lot of internal factors more so than anything -- pendles even acknowledged this in an interview the strain it had on the group ..
For me I see we trying to play a tempo based game(which I prefer) and attack the field put in front of us .. but our timing in transition from offence to defence or vice versa is still poor .. our onfield leaders struggle to form connection and hold the group in line --
For me he is right in we still need to build off defence I just think positional changes mean more .. like don't take your most experienced general out of the backline to be a second string mid-- taking your most inform mid to the backline as to fill the hole you've created .. cripps playing mid fwd to cover his defensive shortcomings isn't working if he isn't hitting the scoreboard -this all on coaches and setting up the field yes but players themselves need to own some of there failures ..
Statistically we aren't far off being a top 6 side .. don't go blowing the joint up..

Just wanted to say - players look a lot better when the team is thriving.

Look at the Saints - their list looked putrid last year (and the year before) but this year a lot of individuals are thriving and doing really well. They look like they're filled with stars.

Look at us - recruits like Young and Hewett looked fantastic in 2022. Both look horrible this year.
