Reid is a standout, but I would never offer massive overs for 1 player

Crows offered up heaps for pick 1 (JHF)

What they offered (which was knoked back), essentially gained them Rankine, Rachelle, Dawson
We need as many first and second rounders as we can get, this year and over the next few more futures…

We’re not even close in being in a position list wise to be giving away multiple early picks for the one player, we need to manufacture over the next 2/3 years in obtaining as many as we can get, and hopefully reload on the busts that have occurred during this current rebuild…

Correct, if we don't have 3 picks inside 30 this year I'd consider it a failure tbh. I have a lot of faith in Austin's selections but he has been somewhat conservative which I'd like to see change this off season. Changes are needed, just not the crazy trade Cripps and Mckay ones being thrown around here atm.

Whilst I think you make a good point...I don't think NBA is a good example. The vast majority of championships have been won with teams of 2 or 3 superstars.

It's really rare to see a squad like the '04 pistons win it all. NBA requires starpower moreso than AFL.
100%, in so much as 1/5 on a court can have so much more impact than 1/20 on a field. I'm not saying you don't need quality, it's a given, but increasingly you need the right kind of quality.

GSW last year was system over stardom (with Stef and Klay resuming from injury), as was the 15 chip. Stef is a selfless star, otherwise he's be throwing up 40 shots a night (probably justifiably).

Giannis is obviously special, but he plays hard both sides of the ball and had three high quality defensive minded lieutenants behind him. Toronto had similar levels of buy in behind their guy, as did the Spurs dynasty prior to that. Superteams (and I appreciate the irony in lauding Miami here) appear to be flash in the pan by their very nature.

There is a reason the likes of Embiid, Tatum, Paul and Russ can't/couldn't get over the hump, and while supposed stars like Trae, Kat and Ja will never get there without major upheaval to their game.

It's just saying in a long winded way I'd love to support a club that had an identifiable culture, some transparent standards, and some demonstrated selflessness from the playing group, rather than just stacking talent and hoping for the best. And success doesn't have to mean premierships...let's scale that aspiration back to playing finals, or even a game style supporters can be proud of.

Agree the Cripps Harry Weitering calls are crazy talk, definitely we need to manufacture a couple of trades that can help create towards the picks in that top 35 range along with our future picks as well…
Having no 2nd/3rd rounders this year isn’t ideal one or both would have been very handy, i think Austin will need to get more creative this year to try and bring in a few extra picks hopefully in that range…

Not sure where this post belongs but Carlton VFL listed players Ned Cahill, Ben Ronke Luke Parks, Tyree Leiu have nominated for the mid season rookie draft next week.
Interesting to see anyone gets a gig
Edit- found the list! Crocker nominated too 😂
Moschetti, McMahon, Lewis, Gill, Stevens, Sinnott & Grant

Crocker no chance, imo. Ronke has some appeal, as does Cahill.

Well we paid nothing really, and yes, that’s still probably too much.

Due to our other wingman on the list he seemed like the second coming of Robbie flower in comparison, but now not so much. I’m not even sure he’s an upgrade on LOB.

Noticed he was more handball friendly on the w/end.
Need wings to be able to drive forward & hit targets.

You say manufacture a trade .. who would you trade that can yield a second or third rounder without selling off a top 10 player

Last off-season he took 3 picks inside 32 and managed to bring in a best 22 player in a position of need. We were also on an upward trajectory so it was very unlikely we made many big moves in moving on players.
Before that we made some of the biggest off-season moves with Cerra, Saad, Hewett, Williams. I wouldn’t be calling what we have done conservative.

Not sure why TDK would choose Geelong, sure he would be number one ruck but there list age profile is scary. 11 players 30 plus with most of them over 32, sure they have some good players, but I think this team is bottom 6 next year. Haven’t been overly impressed with the talent they have under there ageing stars either. Danger being out exposed how pedestrian there midfield is without him.

Please don’t jinx us

I would love to know how people rated Collingwood’s list 18months ago, Geelong’s half way through last year and Richmond’s at the end of 2016.
I really don’t think our problems are as big as it’s being made out in regards to our list.
Agree, a lot it is system based, identifying your strengths and planning a game style that suits. Don’t think we are a complete write off, I believe Voss needs assistance in strategy and game style. Don’t think our current list of assistants are bringing much to the table.
