I do like this line of thinking.

You got to give up something good to get something good back in return.

Sydney have plenty of quality mids and the fact both players are in contract is quite handy as we are talking similar type moves, obviously positionally different.

I would much prefer Warner than any of the projected kids from this cohort at the pick 6 range.

Good speculative suggestion, as you say very unlikely to happen but I like it never the less. 👍
You know he said Corey Warner rather than Chad, right?

1) I disagree with your valuation of Barrass - if he is only a middling player then why are they chasing him so hard - he is a big upgrade on anything they currently have, F&B, borderline AA

2) If they were to offer second and third round picks then they should be rejected instantly without a second thought - he is worth far more to WCE as a player than second round picks - WC hold the whip hand as he is contracted - to sell one of our most valuable players for such a paltry return would be negligence - this bringing up his age is a false argument - he is currently 27, has not suffered major injuries and has a good 4 or 5 years left if not more

I would be ropeable if the club agreed to anything like you are suggesting, would be further evidence that those involved needed to be shown the door
How do we know they are chasing him so hard?

There's been a lot of discussion on here, heated at times, but we've only heard a little from the media, and for all we know, it's only 1 rumour, being regurgitated by other journo's.

They’ve been after him for 18 months, it was public knowledge they were after him at one point.

If Cleary is saying there’s smoke, I imagine there is.

I still don’t think he leaves though

I'm not saying they're not.

But it's not like Sydney have been out spruiking in the media for Barrass, so how do we know they're going hard at him?

Richmond play all 3 of us, Hawks and North in the next 7 weeks. They then have Bulldogs/Demons/St Kilda/Port

Its a very very nice run home for them. Id think they can win 5 of that 7 myself with the 3 certain wins and then winning 2 of the above list of fixtures. Hopefully that 1st rounder can then push towards 9-10 range when its all said and done and GWS can hopefully push to 7-8 range .

How do we know anything, lot of shit is talked daily in here and across the entire site.

But, the rumour is that Sydney wants him. Yet, somehow you are more willing to believe that we need to let him go to fast track our rebuild more than Sydney need to stress about paying the price to get him.

They aren’t going to publicly leak they are after him, I don’t see any benefit in them doing that.

We’ll see this off season how serious they are.

We have a good relationship with Sydney for a long time, dating back to the early 2000's. I think for Barrass. Pick 22, 26 & McDonald would suffice, it would be hard to see us getting Sydney's pick 6#. Barrass can be the best defender in the comp one week and just way off the pace the next as well. This is the draft we must nail! could potentially be the 2001 draft that Geelong had that came to fruition 6 years later :)

Sydney won't give McDonald up with Buddy retiring , the other FWD Amati may be open to leaving ..

We don't know anything. That was my point.

I'm actually not on either side of the should he stay or should he go discussion. Trading Barrass in isolation won't fast track your rebuild, as you probably need to add an extra three first round picks over the next two or three drafts to genuinely fast track your rebuild.

Mostly I've commented on what other posters here have said they believe Barrass is worth.

Hahaha soooo Norf Melbourne, really needs key position players and want to draft McKercher.
Would've thought Curtin was exactly what they needed after taking Wardlaw and Sheeze last year.
smart actually to take McKercher when they do play games down in Tassie ..They can still take KPD`s with the Mckay compo and the 2nd rd picks ..

I don’t see them taking McKercher at 2. Their biggest flaws are a lack of key position talent and a horrific set of small forwards

I think they are really into Watson, wouldn’t be shocked if they are hot on Curtin too. Caddy also would be on their radar to partner Larkey

Seems a bit backwards to suggest they are desperate for KPP and then letting one go as a free agent cos you cant feel bothered trying to keep him. I feel with Larkey/Comben/Logue/Corr that its a decent enough KPP spine.

Certainly decent enough when you look up forward and see Phoenix Spicer/Paul Curtis running around who would make Xavier O'Neill blush. Id be shocked if they dont take Watson really

Blues would love McKercher, exactly what they need. Other than a ruck they have pretty decent KPP. They are always in win now mode so that would suit them to go a small too.
North need any talls including a KPD desperately. They have a stacked midfield now and decent forwards, so it seems a no brainer.

To be fair, I think they would only want McKay to go if they can get pick 3 (compo) for him, that would be ridiculously overs for him and they could just draft Curtin

How do you know they arent?

Swans chased him when he was last coming out of contract. That resulted in a 5 year deal on pretty decent money being needed to keep him.

Swans have fallen like a stone this season. GF flogging to now 14th. They have lost a bunch of tall defenders and that has hurt them badly. If they want to improve next season they need a plug and play FB.

The media mentioned it a while ago and now its fired up again.

In any event when discussing trade value you assume the chasing club wants the player. Thats not too much of a stretch is it? So an argument of 'how do you know they are chasing him hard' is a moot point. It has no relevance in discussing value. The assumption is a club trades for players they obviously want.

Agreed. Someone posted North are super keen on McKercher and I was surprised.

They have loaded up on mids and really need some talls at bothe ends. Caddy or Curtin. For such a low pick a tall forward you would expect is more likely than a defender.

Brutal truth is Sydney dont need to go to the draft. They have a fricken great list of young talent that is the envy of alot of teams including us

McDonald, Amarety, Warner, Sheldrick, Campbell, Gulden, Blakey, Florent, T. McCartin, McInerney, Rowbotom, Stepghens,

All under 24.... It goes on and on

For them to give up pick 6 for a experienced player is exactly what they need. Im not sure anything suits more then Barass either

Sydneys list of youngsters shows how far we are off. Also shows we should recruit their off field guys too
