In a country like Australia with a fukcton of unused land the Gov should provide everyone basic housing & land completely free at 25 years of age, if people are doing well in their occupations they can opt not to use it or give it back once they achieve a certain income & savings level.

Vote 1 for BeerCans.

Sorry, I know bureaucratic nit picking is the realm of the 1 Flexi Day a month Cliquers but aren't council rates just a multiple of your land value? Happy to be corrected.

It is, but what you’re multiplying the property value with varies from council to council depending on their budget requirements. So your example is correct but only if the houses that you’re comparing are both in the same council.

Councils don't just empty your bins, but...using a "rule of thumb" it's fair to assume the amount of garbage a larger house generates would be more

you probably have a larger frontage, that's more street to maintain

you'd discharge a greater amount of stormwater as your property is a larger catchment

Nit-picking, yes

but unless they start tallying up the number of kids every household has to factor into their playground costs, I dunno, maybe just go by a severely underestimated property value based on google earth

Councils don't even empty the bins anymore though it's all contracted out.

A snap shot of social history in Adelaide. Interesting article. The September 1970 demonstration outside Parliament house that I went to

and saw what over zealous policing looked like. Demonstrators being coshed about the head by mounted Police, blood everywhere.
