I do wonder sometimes that, because Will and Dave are obvious Crows supporters, the station hierarchy instruct them to go easy on the Power at times. Don’t want to risk alienating a percentage of your listeners. Bottom line is this is all about ratings
Penberthy is a Crows-lite supporter though.

He even wrote the biographies for Kane Cornes & Scott Hodges

Independent doctors shouldn’t make a difference. The Port doctor made a mistake. Independent doctors make mistakes.

You would only advocate for independent doctors if you accepted that ports doctor was influenced by the club.

He ignored the protocol. It’s quite the leap to assume that an independent would do the same

Are you suggesting there were some deliberate motives at play here from the doctor?

Because that has not been admitted by Port or stated by the AFL (yet). Currently all the doctor and Port have acknowledged is that a mistake was made.

Either they didn't understand the protocol, which is a breech of protocol, or they were gaming the system.

Would you expect them to come out and say, "we were gaming the system"? That amounts to cheating and gross misconduct. Both Port and the AFL would rather a "mistake".

Of course they won't admit the club servant doctor didn't fully test Alir because the game was still close at that point and he is a key player.

Mistake is a lesser offence to outright cheating.

If Dave Warner played for Port, they would say it was a mistake that old Davey had sandpaper in his pocket. He was doing home renovations a few months ago, wore his whites, and was sanding his walls. Mistakenly left sandpaper in his pocket.

Of course doctors, judges, and any other humans make mistakes. The question is the magnitude of the mistake. With an independent doctor, you would think there is a strong chance their judgment is much better than the common fan. Therefore, any such incidents like this particular case, will be judged as “concussion until proven otherwise”.

Another way of looking at it, did you, the commentators or anyone else thought it shouldn’t have been a concussion test? An independent doctor would have at least that common judgment, and hopefully better.

The mistake might have been assuming that You gotta trust the doctor would be the widely held stance held by those outside.

Instead everyone is now an expert on concussions, can see how players fall and what it means

The Trust the doctor grey area has disappeared

Which is my point.

If there is no admission that the doctor was influenced by the needs of the team to win the game, then an independent doctor is equally as likely to make such a mistake as the club doctor.

No because there has been no admission that the doctor considered any other factors apart from the well being of the player.

If a doctor is biased, do you think the doctor would admit to having bias? Likewise, umpires or whoever else with bias?

I’m not saying the bias was intentional by the way, it may well be subconscious. However, it’s fair to say we see biases all the time in sports.

The AFL might have to simply acknowledge that the doctors are in an impossible position

Absolutely.

There’s just no way an experienced medical professional, who understands and is following the AFL’s concussion protocols, watches that vision and comes to the decision that Allir was safe to return to the field.

One last thing I want to say on this topic. It doesn’t matter what the Port doctor says, it’s really about adhering to protocols. Protocols in which it’s pretty clear and in no uncertain terms “if it looks like a concussion, then it is assumed a concussion”. So in the least, a head injury assessment and 20 minutes off, was needed.

I mentioned a few days ago this was definitely going to be looked at by the AFL when I referred to the Chelsea Randall incident.
After a hit, she laid motionless for several seconds looking winded/concussed and then stumbled backwards when she stood up. She was taken off for a HIA and was cleared by the club medicos from having a concussion after all the AFL protocols were applied. The AFL then interjected and still enforced the concussion protocol because “from video footage from the game”.

Fantasia on the radio this morning said that it's hard for the doctor. Allir apparently said he is fine and wants to get back out there.
My God so then the doctor is obviously like oh okay well get back out there son.
Most players probably say this.
It's up to the doctor to then say you may feel fine but we have to check footage and do a test.

No. Its as simple as the doctor simply not following the mandated protocol as he has been caught not following before. Its not about whether the players had concussion or not, uts the non following of the black and white rules and concussion just happened to be the outcome

But he was influenced.

They just lied about it.

Your point is valid if the doctor put player welfare ahead of winning the game.

This doctor doesn't and has form in doing so.

I dunno about that, but it’s impossible to understand how he could think he didn’t need to be at least tested
