So, we've finally got a big name player to come to our club. Fantastic.
It'd be just our luck now that Gawn will do an ACL in a couple of weeks.

Here's the latest from The Age:

Three clubs make verbal offers to sought after Kangaroo Ben McKay

Michael Gleeson
North Melbourne free agent Ben McKay had a medical at Essendon on Wednesday, his third medical at an AFL club, as he approaches a decision on his next move.
McKay has done a medical at Essendon, Sydney and Hawthorn and received at least verbal offers from all three clubs.

A source familiar with the negotiations but who requested anonymity because of the sensitivity of negotiations said the Kangaroo would make a decision on his next move before the grand final.

The Bombers and Hawks have more room in the salary cap, but the Swans’ offer would be likely to be higher than the two Victorian clubs in a bid to tempt him interstate and out of acceptance of the higher cost of living in Sydney.

The port fans are saying Grundy is high maintenance because he didn't share their footy focused view. I understand him wanting what's best for family as well as his footy career.

He reportedly can’t stand INXS.

Strikes me more as an avant-garde modern jazz fan.

oupstanding game against Vic metro. Not in numbers but in inside choices and his two way running...he was one of the prime movers in the critical 3rd q. Works really hard. Predict he will start in defence and follow a mills pathway.
Really interesting what it must take to get into that Top 30. Having watched Cleary he looks well up to VFL standard. Not a star but certainly not a mug either. Definitely draftable IMO.
I'm still hoping that we may be able to trade up to GC pick 4 (out to 5 or even 6) to pick up O'Sullivan or Sanders if we do pick up McKay.

If Grundy won’t announce his intentions until Melbourne’s season’s over then the impatient supporters are going to be supporting Carlton this weekend. Crazy

You couldn’t pay me enough to do that

Might be a little bit short at 180 vs Mills 188 for that path in seniors. He is already playing mids and attending CBAs in VFL like Sheldrick and Roberts did (and do). Looks very handy.

Harmes is a good solid body, 27 yo which appeals imo
Harmes skills are limited. His skill set is low. He is a bull there is no doubt. But I think Jordan is a far better mid in regards to pace, ball use and ability to move the ball quickly out of a stoppage. Harmes has the body weight but is slow. He is not even in the mix. Jordan is in the mix. But behind Oliver.

Also a better match age wise.

Getting in Grundy, which looks very likely, will be brilliant.
Getting in McKay, which looks less likely, would be an improvement but if it doesn't happen we'll survive.
Is James Jordan better than Dylan Stephens, to whom we have offered a contract? Or would he replace Stephens if he left? Is he better than Gulden, McInerney or Campbell? If not, why do it? If he is, let's go for it.
Where does James Harmes fit? Replace Rowbottom? Turns 28 next month. Why on earth would we do that?
Jordan would not replace Dyl. He is more a mid than a wing player. I know Dyl would rather play mid than wing and that is the major problem with his contract. The other problem I see is Longmire. I have a feeling he does not like Dylon, the same as he did not like Tom Mitchell. If you are a coach you have to go beyond emotions and it seems John can't. He may have cost us a Premiership by hating a player.

Jordan is a pure mid. A clearance player. Who is really clever and uses the ball really well. He will fit into our mids with Sheldrick, Warner, Gulden, Rowie, Mills. Parker to go forward. Clark, finally not needed as Parker will be that strong, both offensive & defensive forward.

Develop Arnold, a new KPD Draftee, keep Melican & Francis.

Over the Summer I'd like to see Plugger work with the forward group about positioning and set up. At the moment we are too bunched and static. They all fly for the same ball. There should never be more than one Key forward flying for a mark and the others should be positioned in different areas to draw the tall traffic away from any contest. This would mean if the ball hits the ground there are crumbers. But more importantly it gives every KPF a one on one. Which I think most of them can win.

I feel like people are massively underestimating the impact Grundy could have. He is only 29. He got 40 Brownlow votes in 2018 and 2019 combined. At that time he was a leader and felt really comfortable in a good Pies team. 2020 was Covid interrupted and then at the end of the season the Pies had their salary cap issues and f*cked Treloar over.

My impression is that Grundy is a sensitive guy / confidence player whose performance can be significantly affected by external circumstances. He wouldn't have liked Covid and he obviously wouldn't have liked what his club and Buckley specifically did to Treloar in 2020. Then he was somehow traded to the team with the best ruckman in the comp which was absurd.

Horse has had his issues dealing with personalities like Aliir because Horse's strength is implementing unflinching, rigid standards. There is no indication that Grundy will have any issue with that. He is currently playing VFL and is coming to a team where he could establish himself as our best ruckman for 30 years. Imagine being in his shoes. The opportunity that awaits him is incredible. I think he will dominate next year.

Not sure Plugger would be a great positioning coach.

Plugger’s “positioning” involved steamrolling anyone (be it friend or foe) who dared get in his way, leaving a corridor of pure carnage in his wake.

His teammates were sensible enough to stay well out of harms way when Plugger was on the lead.

Our best ruckman for 30 years?

I know medical science is advancing rapidly, but I have to confess, I harbour some concerns if our list management strategy revolves around a 60 year old Grundy carrying the ruck load come 2053 😋.
