We should be all in for Brodie Grundy

My concern is this is a very light on draft for mids, while next year’s draft looks deep for mids.

So I’m expecting teams to go early on this year’s KPP’s.

Also, if we are going after Coffield, I’m expecting St Kilda to ask for our second round pick.

A mid 30's pick for Coffield sounds like a decent trade

Shout to our great trade and list management team, traded in since the Fagan years from the team last night >

Connor McKenna, Josh Dunkley, Charlie Cameron, Joe Daniher, Callum Ah Chee, Lachie Neale, Lincoln McCarthy, Jarryd Lyons.

Elite recruiting.

Mabior Chol (Gold Coast contracted)

Mabior Chol is being chased by three clubs and I’m prepared to say today he will not be at Gold Coast next year.

“He’s got a two-year deal still remaining, but given the Crows, the Lions and the Hawks have all shown interest I think Chol will be at one of those three clubs.”

Tom Doedee (Adelaide, restricted free agent)

“One more to watch… his decision could be this week, we’ll have to wait and see. We know the Lions like him, the Collingwood Football Club also like him.

“Hawthorn is not interested.”

I think mid 30's, late 2nd round, early 3rd is overpaying. Injury prone, hasn't played firsts for a cpl of years, his only recent form guide is 4 vfl games at the end of the season. It's not the best sales brochure. His potential is all there is to be bullish about.

I'm happy to take that gamble on his potential. I'm backing the medical team and recruitment if they go forward. There's a lot of 'ifs' with Coffield and possibly no real need for him, I can't see him being at the forefront in the minds of the trade team. Maybe as a part of some late pick swaps. A late 3rd round pick at best.

“Our” pick (tied to Geelong) is currently pick 26, an early second round pick.

I just assumed bungalow_bill was projecting where our pick will end up, after compensation picks are handed out during trade period, plus what ever priority picks North will receive (rumour is end of first round & beginning of second round), then add in 5 or 6 father son and academy bids to push our pick back.

like to read the equivalent of this thread on other boards to get the sense of where supporters think their club will look at for recruits / if any 'itk' posters have identified who the club is targeting

the footscray board is still malding over the dunkley trade and how we ostensibly completely screwed them over

Half watched the VFL Grand Final.
Choi?
Not really inspiring at the lower level. Has the tools but ……..
I'd say he is an upgrade on Fullerton (who is rumoured to be leaving) and capable enough to cover Hipwood or Daniher having played plenty of AFL already.

I'm not sure if he is better as a ruck/ forward than Fort though, who I have always rated, but has been a little flat in the second half of the year. So I don't think we should change our current set up and revert to three talls in the forward line if we recruited him.

We have some decent KP talent coming through the academy and his inclusion might just span the gap while that next generation develops over the next few years.

I can't see Chol being a realistic option for us especially with Adelaide and Hawthorn rumoured to be interested (hawthorn particularly given they are losing koschitzke). We won't want to pay his full salary, and also won't want to give gold coast a future pick given F/S and academy needs next year.

But they won, they told us so much last year. They won that trade.

Doedee compo becomes clearer as Lions, Pies circle

The market for free agency defenders continues to skyrocket with Doedee set to be offered a deal of up to five seasons as Brisbane, Collingwood and Sydney chase the interceptor.

Adelaide is unlikely to match any free agency deal, having pulled its initial deal when Doedee suffered a second ACL tear, then replacing it with a modest offer.

Brisbane is seen to be the favourite ahead of Collingwood, with Sydney a late bidder.

The Crows expect Doedee’s offers to hit five years and as much as $600,000 a season – the same deal Brisbane free agency forward Dan McStay secured to move to the Pies.

Adelaide could receive second round compensation of pick 30 under that contract scenario, given the McStay precedent.

Collingwood is interested in Doedee as a potential replacement for Jeremy Howe, while the Lions see him as a replacement for Marcus Adams and eventually Ryan Lester.

In 2020 and 2021 Doedee averaged 2.8 and 2.9 intercept marks a game, but the Crows were worried about his body after needing surgery for two ACL ruptures.

Latest contract news about McCluggage, Keidean Coleman, Zorko and Robertson.

Star Victorian Lion going nowhere

Brisbane has kick-started talks that will see key playmakers Hugh McCluggage and Keidean Coleman sign new long-term deals with the Lions before the start of next season.

McCluggage and Coleman both come out of their existing deals at the end of 2024, and would be highly-sought-after players if they were on the open market.

But it is understood the Lions are well advanced on bedding down new deals in the pre-season with both McCluggage, 25, and Coleman, 23, who are key planks to the club’s long-term future as well as being critical stars in the Lions’ push for its first flag in 20 years this weekend.

McCluggage was locked away on a three-year-deal early in 2021 and seems certain to waive his free agency rights by agreeing to lock into a long-term deal deep into the decade.

The Victorian would attract enormous interest from clubs in his home state, but the wing-midfielder has thrived in his time in Brisbane and is now one of the club’s vice captains.

He is considered a future captain and already works closely with the club’s co-skippers Lachie Neale and Harris Andrews.

He seems certain to stay, as does Coleman, who elevated his price-tag with a stunning preliminary final performance against Carlton last week.

The lethal half-back has played a big role in the Lions push for a flag this season and he will be set for a good price rise on the two-year deal he inked in late 2021.

From flag to the wooden spooner?

Lions veteran Dayne Zorko will play his 250th game for the Lions in Saturday’s grand final with the club understood to be open to him playing on again next season.

Zorko, who turns 35 in February, said this week he was keen to continue in 2024, but as yet there has been no movement on a potential one-year deal that would make that happen.

If the Lions do win the premiership – the club’s first since 2003 – Zorko is unlikely to do a Joel Selwood and retire with a premiership medal.

Insiders believe he is more likely to head into 2024 in an effort to chase more success with the club likely to leave the decision to him, given his status within the group.

The former Lions skipper has played a significant role in the club’s history since his debut match in 2012. It is understood the club believes his form this year warrants him playing on if he chooses to do so.

Meanwhile, Deven Robertson will go into the grand final without a contract in place for next season, giving rise to fears that he could be headed to West Coast next year.

The Eagles are keen to secure his services.

Those who know Robertson speak of him as a loyal person who has thrived in his time at the Lions, but the fact that he hasn’t signed yet leaves the door ajar.

Not much from the Lions of course in this article.

McCluggage and Coleman staying long term will be absolutely huge for future years.

I was a little worried both would get ridiculous offers from opposition clubs so this is wonderful news for grand final week.

i think mccluggage is already one of our most highly paid so we are in a good position where it would be quite difficult for an opposition club to offer significantly more than we have likely bookmarked for him going forward - we do not need to find a large bump in salary for him in the cap.

coleman is an interesting one. academy kids dont tend to leave the club they are drafted to unless they are squeezed out like keays. however there would be many clubs interested in him you would imagine and what his market value is im unsure. theres a few clubs such as north and gold coast that would kill to have a distributor like him off half back

Will Clugga be our first Million dollar player on the current list?
