27 is closer to 37 after all the bids. 3 maybe 4 GC guys, Croft, McCabe, NM priority, McKay pick, Gresham pick, Jiath for Hawthorn, Cleary for Swans. It's not very valuable.
Jiath is unable to be matched before 40

Maybe if there's more backlash like that from Lyon and C.Scott tonight, they won't give pick 3 compensation to the tin rattlers.
What did they say?

The AFL will not let that Shiel deal happen. They will bury anything that makes them look bad if it isn't within their control
They allowed the Bowes deal that made their babies look like fools.

Why wouldn't it? They've explicitly foreshadowed the inclusion of salary trading as a component in a fair deal, unlike in the past where the players and the picks had to be relatively even.

They want mid-year trading and exciting off-seasons full of manufactured tension and anticipation. They're gonna have to look past how the sausage gets made if they're going to get to that point.

If im Stkilda im saying sure we will trade if you pay Gresham to force a Band 1 compo instead of Band 2 then not going any further forward with it once that compo is pocketed

I think F2, 27 and Shiel for 13 makes the saints probably keep to the deal. They take on all of Shiels salary

No there is no way any of it gets done until there is an agreement. I guess we'll also be paying a bit of Shiel's salary too. That way, we've used our salary cap to get McKay, Gresham, and another 1st round pick. I'm guessing the aim is to turn Zerk into an extra 2nd rounder.

Out: Salary cap space, Shiel, BZT
In: McKay, Gresham, 1st and 2nd round pick.

I don't mind it because our two most glaring weaknesses were KPDs and small forwards. However, we've also invested heavily in that area in the draft over the last few years. McKay and Gresham not only provide on-field cover of those areas it means that our kids get time to develop and earn their spot.

With Draper and Bryan, just adding one mature ruck is enough cover. Then we can afford to just go best available with 4 picks inside the first 2 rounds.

They both ripped into the decision and said the AFL needs to stop manipulating the competition and need to let club dig themselves out of the situations they get themselves in.

And just like that Chris is the good Scott again. Whacked a few there. Bravo.

Will the AFL approve? It is a little bit dodgy!

I mean if the AFL don't and St Kilda don't, surely Shiel is worth a mid 2nd round pick so we pay Gresham what he's worth generating a 2nd round pick and trade Shiel for that and not pay any of his salary. We bank the salary cap by front-loading a few of our boys' contracts and go again with Free Agency next year.

Having said that, is the draft better this year or next year? What Free Agents are gettable next year? I.e. do we sell our Free Agency advantage now for that pick 13?

Lyon says they're not talking to the media about Shiel, so that must be coming from Dodoro for whatever reason. Lyon is aware of Shiel's 2023 though, so he's obviously being discussed. This from Fox;

"Lyon refused to rule out interest in the Bombers’ midfielder, but questioned where the noise around the 30-year-old’s availability in the upcoming exchange period.

“Well as a club, we don't sort of conduct our business in the media,” Lyon said.

“Three's lot of noise around it.

“I know he missed the last 10 rounds with quite a few injuries.

“It (the noise) certainly wasn‘t generated from us.

“So I'm not sure where that’s all come from, to be honest.”"

No list manager would do this as it would damage their report with other list bosses and just come back to bite them next time a trade deal came up.
You can't predict what another club will do if they aren't obligated to do something.

St Kilda looks to be trying to get Shiel on the trade cheap. Can't see why we would then gift them a pick 13 to do so in return.
In saying that, trading our Shiel would likely work for our own list balance.

27+Shiel+Shiel's salary seems like overs, no?
Its about the only way I see that kinda deal working though.

13 is way over for Shiel at 31 and with some injury concerns though if fit and plays like he did on earlier this year he can be very good.

27 Maybe about where hes worth- or even on the higher end

Gresh would be either band 2 or 3 pick so the Saints would be getting that range pick plus Shiel if they wanted him - probably us paying some of his wage would be part of the deal to hand over 13./

But its also very likely too to be just clickbait that will never happen

They have no option but to approve, really. Can't stop a guy earning a living. Just don't be surprised if the secret FA formula doesn't trigger band 1 due to top secret variables.
