I'm still flabbergasted at the fact someone doesn't rate Saad a couple pages back...

Pretty simple equation really...
He was offered a 1 year deal at Port on their rookie list if reports are to be believed.
We wanted him but he was going to have to move back to VIC to do so. We offered 2 years to secure a his signature.
The 2 years is the price.
He wasn't coming for 1, which Port and the Giants offered.
But if it's 2 years on a standard AFL wage, and he gets a his body right...
Russell has now gotten Cuningham, Curnow, Marchbank, Martin, McGovern, Docherty and Walsh back from fairly substantial injuries and playing consistently.

They're not rookie upgrades, and don't count as a draft pick.So do DFA count like rookie upgrades or do we need to create another senior list spot (IE draft pick) now?
Don’t think anyone will know/notice until Monday…Weird the club hasn't announced anything
All got their rehab issues…3 'new' recruits coming into the squad for 2024 - Zac Williams, Elijah Hollands and Orazio Fantasia.
That's a pretty handy group of players that we spent a total of less than a 3rd round pick on.
I don't get the frustration around this one..got him for nothing on what most would assume would be a relatively low contract. The bloke can play, hopefully he comes on and if he doesn't, it's far from being the end of the world. We could do a lot worse, and Austin hasn't let us down so far.
Thanks for the updateAll got their rehab issues…
We didn't stump up anything and so what what if * declined him? Dodoro just signed B Mckay on 850k a year for half a decade. People running that joint don't have a clue. But there were reports he was looking at an attempt to return to Windy Hill (who declined) mid-year, so not too much of a bridge to cross re: move.
Stumped up too much IMO for an injury riddled player for a straight up 2yrs.
List spots are at an absolute premium and we've had huge issues with perennially injured players clogging up the injury ward - and we've signed him up for 2 years - that's not nothing.
Russell is certainly not known for being able to manage injury prone types through preseason either.
But on the flipside if he wasn't injury prone we'd have had to cough up significant salary and trade compensation so it's definitely a calculated risk.
My biggest concern is with the string of injuries he's had how quick is he now? He's a player who relies on his speed - I hope we did some full-on medical / performance testing.
I am happy to be wrong but yeah... I cannot see him making it through preseason without a significant injury and cannot see the point of this acquisition at this stage.
An all important list spot for 2yrs is collateral = overs. We didn't stump up anything and so what what if * declined him? Dodoro just signed B Mckay on 850k a year for half a decade. People running that joint don't have a clue.
Comments like this make me sad. We're talking about someone who was once a Bomber but is apparently now a Carlton player. But it sounds like for you, in a contest between love for Carlton and hate for Essendon, hate wins. Can't stand the bloke. Can't stand anything that has been at that s**t stain of a club. Would prefer he wasn't at Carlton. Doubtful I will be able to cheer him on. Doubt he will play many games for us so it's not going to an issue. He won't play 5 games next year and will be delisted.
He's pretty special when his hamstrings aren't fried...
He's still on Port's list. They need to delist first.Weird the club hasn't announced anything
They're not rookie upgrades, and don't count as a draft pick.
But, if we have in fact signed Fantasia, then we would have 3 senior list spots left (likely 1 rookie upgrade and 2 ND picks).
Good move.. for the ressies
That’s high praise for Elijah Hollands then.Linc McCarthy also arrived with a (dual) Brownlow Medallist to be…
pretty much, probably used as an on field coach/mentor for durds and mots?Good move.. for the ressies
2 years is too much? Really? Puts pressure on others to perform, good list managementBut there were reports he was looking at an attempt to return to Windy Hill (who declined) mid-year, so not too much of a bridge to cross re: move.
