It's unlikely our crowds at AO would go back to Footy Park tarp levels but if they ever did it would be anybody's fault but Daddy Donuts. As long as David Koch is the AFL appointed chairman of the PAFC there is no way that Daddy Donuts is getting the sack. Koch has said he wants Hinkley to be a twenty year coach at the Kenny Hinkley Football Club and David Koch gets what he wants.

With the exception of long term historically very successful coaches like Sheedy, Malthouse, etc, who coached flags at both ends of their career, any chairman that is chairman for as long as Koch to have not turned over the head coach at least once is a fail.

I wanted Hinkley to be a 10 year coach as well, because he'd won multiple premierships. Koch just meant he didn't want to have to have a difficult conversation with an employee.

And the extra-bonkers thing about that is, Hinkley famously lost hope at ever getting a head coaching gig after 16 years in myriad boonies and AFL-subordinate roles, and numerous failed interviews, before a mixture of an Andrew Mackie text message and a former Fitzroy teammate being installed as Port CEO led his stars to finally align for him at age 46.

But he ‘hopes’ Josh Carr, a highly-rated assistant, SANFL premiership coach in his own right and of course tough-as-nails Port Adelaide premiership player ‘coaches Port one day’?

Alluding to the wider vibe that Josh Carr retired 5 minutes ago and is still too wet behind the ears, when he himself will be 45 when Hinkley’s latest deal expires — with no guarantees.

The time was now if this chode had any sense of self-awareness and shame.

I know, but they could have let him just finish off his contract for 2023 and even before then tried to contract a premiership coach for 2024. How he got another 2 year contract extension without even a preliminary final appearance is astonishing, when he went onto a 4 game losing streak (should have been a wake up call), and they most importantly didn't reflect on his entire coaching career of his then 10 wasted seasons of no grand final appearances. There's better coaches than Hinkley, not sure where this myth of he's the best guy comes from, when Choco Williams their only premiership coach is leagues better than him and helped Richmond and Melbourne win premierships.

He reportedly had one in his ridiculous 2017 deal. It’d be downright treasonous to allow a similar trigger after all that we’ve seen since 2014 when he had a universal approval rating.
