Pretty good. He's quite good at shifting direction and stepping through traffic to find the best option, rather than the first option.

Risk is if he's not ready for AFL level he'll get himself caught, but if he can pick up the pace of AFL footy the rest of his game should translate.

One of the players I want a year or two in ressies and thrown around in different positions.

Having him rotate as a HFF and work on i50 delivery/penetration will set him up very well.

Admittedly I am not watching the game, just looking at the stats but if Cleary 24 disposals and 9 clearances so far are any indication it won't be long until he is in the main team.

For those that are watching how good are Cleary's clearances?
Think George Hewett with maybe a bit more burst of pace off his first step. Nothing flashy, just takes the sensible option, usually by quick hands. Has a nice little side step to get himself out of trouble too.

Edit: Oops just saw that BarneyBent already said this and said it better.

Interesting that Ladhams can be good last week but lousy this.
I think this is what you get with Ladhams. His good can be very good but his bad can be shocking. Ultimately, he has this season and next on our list to work things out between the ears. But by then, I think the Big Mac and Green will be better and younger options to support Grundy.

The combo between him and our outside runners will be unstoppable if he keeps progressing.

I would say Cleary is a bit quicker and sharper in his movements but slightly less composed. Also not as competent on both sides of his body compared to Hewett. Cleary is also a bit smaller I think which might make him a slightly less effective tackler (but still good).
Patrick Mitchell would have taken the game by the scruff of its neck by now and got it back on the Swans terms.

That's a bit of a throwback. Can't say I saw that much in the project American. Definitely don't think there's any reason to think he would have taken this game by the scruff of the neck.

Overall a reasonable performance against a good Tigers side. We missed some players but we still had more AFL listed playing than they did.

From our AFL list my thoughts:

Adams - brilliant at the contest but his ball use is sometimes lacking and today is leadership and discipline were also lacking. Also thought he was slowing down which makes me question his fitness and whether he's ready to return to 4 quarters of AFL as soon as next week.

Francis - quite good. Had a lot of nearly moments, especially playing forward, where he nearly marked the ball.

Ladhams - poor first half, particularly discipline wise, but improved as the game wore on. Disappointing inconsistency both within game and compared with his excellent game last week.

Reid - lacklustre

Vickery - solid as ever but didn't particularly catch my eye today. I still think he's a good prospect. I think he's an upgrade on... ahem... Rankin

Edwards - an athletic beast learning to have more impact on the game. Is getting better defending one on one. Is also developing his ball use I think.

Kirk - solid/good

Magor - quite good. Had a lot of the footy, used it pretty well.

Cleary - very good. Hard at the contest. Uses the ball well.

Snell - displayed the competitive spirit that he was selected for. Can see why we've given him a chance. Still has a long way to go.

Green - not a lot of impact but did some nice things. Again, can see why we've picked him. Promising project.

McAndrew - ok. Did pretty well with the rucking but didn't offer a lot more.

Our VFL guys were solid game long and especially good early on.

Ben Edwards has been a great acquisition for our depleted midfield.

I didn't especially notice Endemann but his stats show that he had a really strong game.

Will Kelly - feels like he should be better than he's been. Not bad but should stand out compared to others given his size and his experience on an AFL list.

Max Geddes - worked so hard, applied great pressure.

Phil Moi Moi - 3 goals in the first quarter! Faded after that. Laid some good tackles.

Bartholomaues was solid and Ashley-Cooper was serviceable.

Both Morrisons didn't stand out for better or worse. I don't think they had a lot of impact.

Overall, I think it was a good learning experience and we didn't disgrace ourselves except with our discipline at times. If players with injury return the team could get stronger. I really hope we can play finals this year, both because it's fun to be winning and also because it will help our senior side assuming they also play finals.

Loved Gemma Bastiani's commentary. She's so knowledgeable about the VFL. Given she also keeps up with AFL, AFLW and VFLW it's extraordinary. I find she offers a lot of insightful commentary as well as knowing our team inside out.

I thought she was great.

Her comment about Francis lacking that elite rebound, hence he's only depth was spot on. I thought the options he took and execution rebounding out of defence were pretty ordinary. Then when he was shifted forward, he was ineffectual.

Round 2 recap from afl.com.au

Taylor Adams took a step towards his Sydney AFL debut with a good performance in the Swans' 12-point loss to Richmond on Sunday.

After suffering a pre-season knee injury, Adams returned via the VFL and had 18 disposals, 11 tackles and three clearances in three quarters.

Jaiden Magor (28 disposals) was impressive and Caiden Cleary had 24 disposals, nine clearances and six tackles.

Ruckman Peter Ladhams fought hard to finish with 21 disposals, 10 hitouts and nine clearances, while father-son recruit Indhi Kirk had 16 touches and kicked a goal.

William Edwards (13 disposals), Aaron Francis (15) and William Green (six and a goal) also contributed.

Sam Reid played a half and had five disposals while kicking a behind.

Club recap

Unless something changes, presumably this Saturday's practice match is still out at Homebush?

Sydney Swans v GWS Giants, Tom Wills Oval – Saturday, April 6 (10:00am)
Would be great to get some vision but doubt this will happen. I wonder if any folks from our Board are planning to pop out for a lookout look..

Finally got around to watching the game and while stats can sometimes be misleading, I thought Magor was our best.

Last year he had his moments, but did look as if he was finding his feet and somewhat diffident on and off field, but his confidence, his physicality and his presence have come on this year, to go with last year's skills.

I'd still like him to get a run further upfield.

Ladhams.
Looked good pre-season and last week, fit, in form and then this week.......
Once again gets frustrated, loses his discipline.
Not good enough.

When Francis was in defence I noticed he was organising the backline.
Good to see him take responsibility as a senior player.

As for the rest I'll just go with Callipygian's excellent summary. :thumbsu:

Yep. I watched parts of it again. Magor was clearly our best.

Re your comment on stats sometimes being misleading, the idiot on Fox who gave Ladhams an approving nod for his 21 disposals clearly did not watch the game.

In the last quarter alone he scrubbed 3 kicks forward that iirc all ended up out of bounds. He showed no interest whatsoever in finding a teammate. Leaving aside his stupidity and indiscipline in giving away umpteen frees, it was his wilful selfishness when he had the ball that got me.
