Does Nord even have any fans? I assume they all went to the crom 30+ years ago when they came in.

As an sanfl club, they'd have what maybe 10k die hards at absolute best?
Old fans & crow members may switch back, anyone under 40 forget about it they've had 30 plus years of Crows & Port while the SANFL has become irrelevant.

SA doesn't have the population for another team, if you're interested in footy you've already hitched your wagon to one of the two clubs, or you're an expat from interstate and already have a team.

Getting port in was a struggle and that's literally the most successful club in footy history. A little suburban team like Nord who's glory days were 50 years ago is ludicrous. Might as well put the panthers in

Remember that poster who was all about the Panthers entering the AFL lol

Nah no speed records will be needed.

All they have to get ready by late March next year is an AFL standard oval, the function type centre and players change rooms and coaches boxes and media area.

The rest of the footy stuff can be temporary stuff as per Mount Barker which was up and running in 2023 only 6 months after SA being awarded Gather Round, which was only 1 month after Malinauskas hounded the AFL heavyweights during AFL GF week.

The non AFL stuff doesn't need to be ready by then.

Its well passed concept stage, the redevelopment has been fully approved by council which would have been a 12+ month process and the renders by Dash Architects are dated 19/2/2024 which means these are probably final plans for building sizes, as dimension are on the plans.

The plans say the vineyards have already been purchased where the 2nd oval/athletics track will be built. I had assumed that it''s the Burge Family Winemakers land, as I heard the land was donated, but it probably was a private winegrowers vineyard block rather than one owned by the winery.

One thing that's interesting from the renders is that the railway line goes past the south western border of the property, as the old Lyndoch station is close to the township and the intersection of Barossa Valley Highway / Lyndoch Valley Road / Gilbert Street.

I completely had forgotten that when I turn right at that intersection and drive up to Dutschke Wines, not far from that intersection, I drive over the railway line. Wonder if Premier Pete will fire up the train to run between Gawler and Lyndoch or Taunuda or even further, during Gather Round.

Sounds great to me, also great for the gather round tourists.

Get onto Mali’s inata account and read the comments, what a piss any state we live in….

Do people realise they’d still be unhappy if we poured 100% of the state budget into hospitals?

The campaign continues.

How about sticking to your dismal science eh Tim? Norwood had their chance at a 'red hot go' when it mattered and squibbed it.

They've down f-all since on field ever since and when it comes to the AFL that's what matters more than being a place up the street from half decent skinny lattes and a couple of yearly food and wine festivals.

You know what? Let it happen.

They’d eat into the Crows’ supporter base and sponsors far more than Port’s — and it’d be hilarious hearing all the morons who retrospectively decided Port was too small for a standalone license try to justify what would be a genuine minnow on the national stage.

When the smoke clears, normal service would resume and Port would once again be the biggest club in the state.

these must be paid for by Norwood FC to boost memberships. hopefully they'll get to four digits this year?

I dont get why you’d want three clubs in the least populated football state
And one of the State’s most well known economists pushing for it.

Show these guys are just guns for hire.

Just backs up what we all know. That the Crows ‘team for all South Australians’ shtick is conditional BS. Large chunks of their supporter base would ditch them in a heartbeat.

Half decent skinny almond milk lattes thank you very much.

It’s the same reason why just about every star Vic they’ve ever had bails, while Port have kept just about every one they’ve wanted to keep since Nick Stevens (who is on record as regretting ever leaving).

Without the first-to-market state branding and real or imagined brief of being the standard bearer for ‘South Australian football’ — which is constantly being diluted with each passing year (there were only 3 or 4 Fruchoctopians in the 2017 Grand Final team) — there’s zero essence of ‘club’ and a feeling of true belonging there.

As you say, if a Norwood or Centrals ever came in as a standalone entity they’d drop the Crows like a casual fling who woke up looking like Luciano Pavarotti.

WA would have to be next in line of the established football states. Have the money, space and population.

Where will Norwood get a supporter base from? They have no point of differentiation.

I think Norwood would pull a supporter but no doubt it affects the crows.

WA have everything else going for them, but where's the culture? Will a third team be pure franchise? Just there to get more money? I'm not familiar with the culture of WA footy, but it seems most were fine with the Eagles as a franchise and always were, and Fremantle was a logical second choice. Is there some other demographic or history they can tap in to?

The crows were a reluctant compromise to stop us, and we seen when the chance was there almost all other SANFL clubs jumped at the chance to move, and no people at the time considered a betrayal of the Crows being there to apparently represent them all.

Don't need 20 teams anyway, need to lose a Melbourne-based team
Three ideally. How is the competition any worse off without St Kilda, North Melbourne or the Bulldogs?

There is absolutely no business case for another team in SA. You won't capture more fans/members, viewers or sponsors. The small football cake in SA is distributed between Port and the crows, and there are no additional pieces or opportunities to grow the cake.

Just a bunch of delusional legs fans that still believe it is the 90s.

My old man is late 60s, grew up die hard Redlegs but supported the crows when they entered the AFL. I remember bits of Nord merch around the house as a young kid, but don't think he's even watched a single SANFL game in 25 years.

The only people I know who follow SANFL clubs closely (most I can think of are for clubs other than Norwood) are those who specifically like the product of SANFL footy, not due to allegiance to a specific club, per se. If that club was to be promoted to AFL I have no doubt they would lose interest
