Lyndoch is the worst spot in the Valley for the game. Between Tanunda and Gawler, with very few amenities, the oval condition (which will be improved) is horrendous. It waterlogs like crazy.

Tanunda makes so much more sense.

Plans for the Lyndoch Oval and recreation precinct redevelopment was already in the works and extensive consultation has already taken place and it has the full support of the Barossa Council (see Council document plan from February this year):

So this is just killing 2 birds with one stone. That's politics for you.

its still the worst choice.
It might be the worst choice to have a gather round game, ie tourists can't wonder up from the Taunuda Murray St strip a couple of hundred metres to Taunuda Oval, like The Parade, but both governments want a long term regional sporting legacy precinct and the land is available in Lyndoch, to do things you can't do at Taununda and at other places in the Barossa.

Having been to Mount Barker oval for Sunday's game, this is no worse than that, and I'd argue Lynoch is closer to delivering a tourism kick the government wants, than Mount Barker is.

This work will include a new multi-purpose building comprising a 300-seat event space and clubrooms with commercial kitchen, multi-sport change facilities and gym.

The project also includes a mini Adelaide oval replica bar and service area to support events and the cricket club, new netball courts, a recreation green and second oval, athletics track, shelters, a new playground and family garden, more carparks and a formalised roadway.

I live interstate and was wondering if Alberton Oval would be considered for a gather round game. Just read some previous comments, I guess it will never happen
I was in town for our last 2 games and it was great seeing the city alive.

The Adelaide Crows high-performance manager and a 200-game AFL player have bought into a Port Adelaide gym just named the best in the state.
On Sunday, PEAQ Performance Centre owners Sean and Jaimi Baker announced Darren Burgess and former Sydney and Richmond player Greg Stafford are now part-owners.

Mr Burgess – a world renowned high-performance specialist who also worked with Arsenal and Liverpool in the UK – said he was excited to bring his 28 years of experience to the local level.

“(I’d) be able to bring some experience and some training philosophies, some lifestyle philosophies to the PEAQ team, that’s what I’m most pumped about,” Mr Burgess said.

“I think we can do some pretty special things in the performance, fitness, wellness space.”

They'll have to break world speed records to complete all that, have it tried and tested to eliminate all the bugs that need fixing, and be up and ready for action in 12 months 😲
Particularly as all they appear to have at the moment is concept sketches.
They'd be months away from getting full working drawings completed, then the time to put it out to tender, evaluate the bids, get contracts drawn up and signed.

I'm guessing a start on site would be around September.
By next April you may have 60%-70% building work complete.
Then you have fireworks/landscaping, car parking, sowing a new oval to ensure it doesn't end up as a big.
Then you need to play at least 2-3 matches there to see if everything works or is a cluster**** that requires fine tuning.

May be ready for a major marquee event by 2026, but I reckon hoping for next year is Disney World fantasy.

Guess time will tell, but the numbers just don't appear to be feasible at this juncture.

Nah no speed records will be needed.

All they have to get ready by late March next year is an AFL standard oval, the function type centre and players change rooms and coaches boxes and media area.

The rest of the footy stuff can be temporary stuff as per Mount Barker which was up and running in 2023 only 6 months after SA being awarded Gather Round, which was only 1 month after Malinauskas hounded the AFL heavyweights during AFL GF week.

The non AFL stuff doesn't need to be ready by then.

Its well passed concept stage, the redevelopment has been fully approved by council which would have been a 12+ month process and the renders by Dash Architects are dated 19/2/2024 which means these are probably final plans for building sizes, as dimension are on the plans.

The plans say the vineyards have already been purchased where the 2nd oval/athletics track will be built. I had assumed that it''s the Burge Family Winemakers land, as I heard the land was donated, but it probably was a private winegrowers vineyard block rather than one owned by the winery.

One thing that's interesting from the renders is that the railway line goes past the south western border of the property, as the old Lyndoch station is close to the township and the intersection of Barossa Valley Highway / Lyndoch Valley Road / Gilbert Street.

I completely had forgotten that when I turn right at that intersection and drive up to Dutschke Wines, not far from that intersection, I drive over the railway line. Wonder if Premier Pete will fire up the train to run between Gawler and Lyndoch or Taunuda or even further, during Gather Round.

Thilthorpe's injury worse than first thought and won't be back until the back end of the season.

Zero chance of Alberton getting a guernsey...too far from city,no surrounding cafe/retail strip, ground already destroyed to develop an AFL training facility etc etc. No vibe in a nutshell.
The ground destroyed? What the **** are you talking about? They are building another grandstand and the outer has been designed to fit in multiple portable grandstands.
Nether of your clubs have the facilities Alberton has.

Translation: they were gonna let it heal enough without surgery to get him on the park asap. At 0-4 have decided to be pragmatic and just get the surgery as the season is gone already.

Norwood, Glenelg maybe Sturt have the strips to accomodate the festival feel with local business that Alberto doesn’t have.

You’d think Norwood or the Bay would be the choices.
Unley Oval? It’s a dog park during the week with a playground in the forward pocket. Where are you going to put extra seating in there?
