Jagga Smith (31 disposals, 18 contested possessions, five marks, six rebound-50s, three inside-50s, three tackles, eight clearances)

“It was his first game at the level, and he certainly did not look out of place. He amassed 18 contested possessions from his 31 disposals on the night and had eight clearances. It was a tough game to mark him on, but a great start in Richmond colours.”

This shouldn't matter but he is a rixhmond boy from richmond, I really like the idea of a local lad!

Draper, Smith, Smilie, FOS, Lalor, Trainor, Reid.

Pick one will come from that. Lombard and Ashcroft would be part of the discussions in an open draft.

Take a breath, relax and just observe the rest of the season, draft combine and finals and it may become clearer by November.

Lalor is not in pick 1 contention. He is overrated online.

The other 6 are, however, I wouldn't have Trainor in the mix personally.

Hope it's not like waiting for Jayden Post to string a few together
I bet I could look back and find posts from you arguing he just needed six games in a row.

What an edgelord.

There’s some obvious ones that they’d never let go, so I’ll go for Keeler.
I'd be going for Keeler and Olli Hotton.

Yeah but it will be 2 teens picks. As opposed to what looks like 2 top 10's as Pies are done and Port have a shocking run from here.
He'll still be contracted. If they want him that badly, they'll find a way to get the picks we want.

Draper does appear to be the most dynamic midfielder in this years crop. He seems to have that burst from stoppages missing in some of the other top 10 mids.
I still think the best bit of play I saw during the carnival, was against VM when he won a contested ball in the middle of the ground against Smillie, bouncing of the bigger player, burst away from the contest , carried it 20 m and delivered a 60 m bomb into the forward line.
To compliment that he can do your grunt work too, and feed it out to teammates ( uncanny how he hits teammates with over the head handballs).

If draft was today, who would people take?

I'm currently on the Sid Draper bandwagon.

Perfomance: I think he's only behind Smith & early season Smillie and last year he was ahead of both. Considering he missed pre-season this is an incredible effort.

Traits: He's quick, elite agility, uses it well, he's strong through the hips and core, has a good defensive side for an elite mid.

Fit: on a needs basis, which is just a bonus to the above, he's the one that fits best with TT & Hopper.

I really struggle to see how he doesn't end up a better player than Smith. The downside and something I have no way of knowing is he could end up a better player for Smith for Adelaide/Port if he bails lol.

Still FOS, if I was being edgy Lalor would be the other option.

Draper and Jagga with dominant state level play could push their way into contention.

I'd love to see this round 1 2025:

Blight, Balta, Brown
Vlastuin, Gibcus, Smith
Ralphsmith, Draper, Clarke
Mansell, Gray, Campbell
M. Rioli, Lynch, Bolton
Nankervis, Taranto, Hopper
Ross, McAuliffe, Lalor, Green

Certainly not a great side but good place to start the rebuild.
Gray before Lefau? Or are you thinking he'll still be injured? Does this assume Prestia, Rioli, Baker and Graham are no longer at the club? We'll have another couple of draftees a chance for Rnd 1 at that rate...

Think right now if it was today, it has to either be Draper or Smith. No contest.

Runs on the board. Absolutely white hot.
